View Full Version : Comic Book Six Degrees

Here's a favorite of mine (that I tried to prop up for sooo long after the thread had run its course :D).

Simply put, by shared appearance in a comic book, link two characters to each other within six degrees.

I will begin:

Turok

to

Blok (from Legion of Superheroes).

Begin! And once you make a connection, supply a new one of your own!

Turok is a first-person shooter.

Jim Shooter thinks about nobody but himself -- he's a first-person shooter too!

And he wrote the Legion.

And Blok is in the Legion.

(Well, okay, Shooter published Turok, too, but how much fun is that? None, that's how much.)

Shared appearances with characters in a comic book, just like how Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is shared appearances with actors in a movie.

So Turok appeared in a comic with Character A, who appeared in a comic with Character B, who appeared in a comic with Character C, who appeared in a comic with Blok.

Stuff like that.

Behind the scenes would be too quick. :)

1. Turok was in Unity with X-O Manowar

2. X-O Manowar met Iron Man in Heavy Metal

3. Iron Man met Superman in JLA/Avengers

4. In Legion of Superheroes 37 Blok was in the same issue as Superboy.

Dean from Liberty Meadows

to

Frankie from The Goon

Okay... this is gonna involve a massive stretch here.
And there's no way I can do it in six.

Dean knows Frank.
Frank's Death is the Death from Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal, who is also the Death from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.
Bill and Ted's favourite superhero is Fight-Man (as seen in Bill and Ted's Excellent Comic Book by Evan Dorkin... out now in TPB! *plays weedly weedly air guitar*)
Who once teamed up with (which is to say, was targeted for assassination by) Agent X.
Agent X used to hang out with Taskmaster.
Who fought the Avengers.
Who currently include Spider-Man as an active member.
Spider-Man met Batman in Marvel vs DC (amongst others).
Batman teamed with Hellboy in Batman/Starman/Hellboy.
Hellboy was named 'Rosie' by Frankie.

Pól Rua

Of course, Brandy (who knows Dean, duh!) was accosted at a comics convention by a nerd dressed as Batman.
Who teamed up with Hellboy.
Yadda yadda Frankie.

But dressed as probably doesn't count.

3. Who met Savage Dragon in an issue of PvP
4. Who teamed up with Hellboy in an issue of Savage Dragon
5. Who met Frankie in an issue of Goon

In THAT case, I'd have to go cartoons, which would be

1. Mojo Jojo fights the Powerpuff Girls
2. Who met Bugs Bunny (in the cartoon)
3. Who met Superman (in the recent Superman/Bugs Bunny comic)
4. Who met Detective Chimp (in Shadowpact #1, most recently).

Adam Warlock messed up saving the world, and so Spiderman had to.

Spiderman and Superman have met a couple of times.

Madman had a crossover with Nexus.

The Tick to Rex "Tick-Tock" Tyler.

2. Cyblade met Grifter in the 'Killer Instincts' crossover.

3.Grifter has met Gen13 in many a sad Wildstorm crossover.

4. Gen13 had a crossover with Superman.

5. Superman had a chat with Starman (Jack Knight) right after his dad's death.

Okay this is shaky but here goes:

The Golden Age Blue bolt created by Jack Kirby appeared in blue bolt comcis along with Basil Wolverton's Spacehawk. (In Blue Bolt #108, Blue Bolt actually teamed up with Spacehawk.)

The creators of the late lamented Roachmill comic did a new Spacehawk story in issue two of the Dark Horse Spacehawk series which I THINKhad a Roachmill cameo.

roachmill appeared in the Dark Horse Fifth annversary Special which also featured an Aliens story.

Superman has fought Aliens.

Superman has met virtually every Marvel character at one time or another, definitely including Spiderman who has met Black Bolt.

Americomics has reprinted Blue Bolt stories and may have included Blue Bolt in their group of revived forties heroes. If so, that provides another possible link.

Iangould
06-23-2006, 08:22 AM
Okay, Americomics "Men of Mystery" 35 reprints both a Blue Bolt story and an Ibis the Invicible story. Amongst many others, Ibis has met Captain Marvel who appeared in Marvel Versus DC (I think). If not he's had multiple meetings with mainstream DC characters who've met Marvel characters who've met Black Bolt.

Okie dokie.
Crimson Comet (in his secret ID as Ralph Rivers) was administrative head of Aussie Superteam The Southern Squadron.
The Southern Squadron teamed up with Boris the Bear.
Boris met the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The Turtles appeared in the Dave Sim scripted issue of Spawn along with Captain America.
Cap met Red Raven during 'The Invaders'.

(there's another one involving The Badger, who also teamed up with the Squadron, but I couldn't get it in under 6 issues, and the Squadron also made an appearance in Munden's Bar, which'll get you all sorts of links...)

Of course:

Aleister Crowley appears in From Hell as a creepy school boy.

He appeared in Promethea.

I'm 99% certain Jack and Promethea met during the final End of the World story but if not they still link via Tom Strong.

Alternately, thanks to the insane Easter Eggs in Top 10, especially the one where they travel between dimensions you can probably link via that.

In fact you can - because Doc McCoy appears in the background of one panel in that Top 10 story and Jack the Ripper appeared in Star Trek.

However, Popeye's first cartoon appearance by the Fleisher Bros. was in a Betty Boop short.

Damn, I have it except I can't think of any DC or Marvel characters besides Transformers that crossed over with GI Joe.

Also, it's more than six degrees. So, I really don't have it at all.

Yeah, if it's Marvel Godzilla, then it's really easy. I can do it in three that way.

Any Godzilla except GINO (Godzilla in name only).

Well. at a stretch, isn't Cobra Commander cloned from the DNA of Adolf Hitler (amongst others)?

It may not be the same version of Hitler as in the MU but its no more of a stretch than stuff like counting DCU Batman and gotham By Gaslight Batman as a single character.

Godzilla to Fantastic Four in his Marvel book.
FF to Spider-Man in tons of books.
Spider-Man met Optimus Prime in Marvel's Transformers book.

Forgot to put up the next challenge.

Neil Gaiman's Sandman to Night Nurse.

Godzille (Dark Horse) to Optimus Prime.

1. Godzilla fought "Hero Zero" in the imaginatively named "Godzilla Versus Hero Zero" (He also fought Charles Barkley who I think appeared in comics with Bugs Bunny who's met Superman).

2. Hero Zero was in the Comics Greatest World series with Ghost

3. Ghost met Batgirl in Batgirl/Ghost

4. Batgirl to Batman

5. Batman to Spiderman

6. Spiderman to Optimus (and is it just me but does "Optimus Prime" sound like one of the names they rejected before settling on "viagra")

Neil Gaiman's Sandman to Night Nurse.
I don't remember if Sandman ever crossed directly over with Batman. I just don't. So I might be throwing in an extra step. But Sandman to Wes Dodds to Batman to DareDevil to Night Nurse.

Neil Gaiman's Sandman to Night Nurse.

1. Sandman to Hector Hall of Infinity Inc who appeared in the Gaiman Sandman's comic

2. Hector to Batman

3. Batman to Spiderman

4, Spiderman to Nightcrawler

5. Nightcrawler to Christine Palmer, Linda Carter Night Nurse's room-mate who has (apparently) appeared in Nightcrawler's own comic.

6. Christine to Linda.

I really hope it's okay that I'm using the net to find some links here. If not, then just ignore this.

Forbush Man to Stanley and his Monster

Forbush Man to Juggernaut
Juggernaut to Captain America
Captain America to Batman
Batman to Green Arrow
Green Arrow to Stanley and his Monster

How about trying Harvey Pekar to the Golden Age Flash?

Iangould
06-28-2006, 12:01 AM
1. Harvey Pekar appeared on the Letterman show and wrote about it in various comics.

2. Letterman appeared in an issue of Marvel Team-Up with Spiderman.

3. Spiderman to Batman.

4. Batman to Jay Garrick.

I'll supply one I love for its obscurity.

Mirage Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Archie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. (Bonus points if you can point out why this does NOT violate any internal logic.)

Mirage Ninja Turtles to Savage Dragon
Savage Dragon to Superman
Superman knows Batman
Batman fought the Punisher
Punisher to Archie (Punisher vs Archie)
Archie to the Archie Ninja Turtles (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles meet Archie...can't believe I actually owned that at one time)

Can anyone do it in less than six? :D

I can, obviously.

I'll give a hint.

You don't need DC Comics at all as a step.

Mirage Ninja Turtles to Savage Dragon
Savage Dragon to Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four to the Punisher
Punisher to Archie (Punisher vs Archie)
Archie to the Archie Ninja Turtles

Is that right? I can't think of a specific time when the Fantastic Four met Punisher, but I'm sure it had to have happened at some point. Maybe.

EDIT: D'OH! I was thinking of the Superman/Fantastic Four crossover. Oops.

When did Dragon meet the Fantastic Four? In one of those crazy panels with all kinds of Marvel and DC heroes thrown in there?

Using Leatherface, you could do it in one step. (He's the only Archie/cartoon created character to be picked up in Mirage continuity.)

I'm guessing not since no one has tried this. Did Battle Pope ever meet the Warrior Nun? If so she met Witchblade, who met the JLA, several JLA members have met Spiderman, Spiderman was in a Carebears comic if I'm remembering correctly.

It's probably crap, but I'm trying to keep the game going. Someone pick another one eh?

Good enough...but here's my shot at it:

Pope John Paul II was in his own Marvel Comic which had him meeting Ronald Reagan, Ronald Reagan fought Captain America (for real!) in a comic, Captain America has met Spiderman, Spiderman has met SpiderHam and SpiderHam was in a CareBears comic.

Okay, Michael has forfeited his right (after 5 months ;)).

So here's my pick!

Katchoo from Strangers in Paradise

to

Kangaroo (Spider-Man villain).

Pól Rua

Katchoo and Francine were both in Gen 13 issue 13.
Gen 13 have teamed up Superman in Superman/Gen 13 (Oddly enough).
Superman met Spider-Man in the first Marvel DC crossover.
And Spidey's kicked the Kangaroo's tail on any number of occasions.

Murphy Fudd (Marv parody with a speech impediment from James A. Owen's 'Starchild') to Big Fwankie (Marv parody with a speech impediment from Paul Grist's 'Kane')

That looks way hard. Has Kane ever crossed over with any other comic? And I've never heard of James A Owen or Starchild

I guess the lack of a response means it was too hard (or no-one was interested), so if no-one minds I'll suggest another to get the game going again....

Cerebus and Gnort

Scott McCloud to Kamandi

The twist is, you cannot use all the panels that appeared in McCloud's books. McCloud as himself has appeared in at least one other comic that I'm aware of.
