Words get old, i mean who talks like that today?
No point in using them in modern comics at all.

but comics won't be where they are right now if it weren't for them. im still pretty much bummed why supes is not using his up, up, and away dialogue.

I guess it has a lot to do with that superhero comics is written for a older audience today, and of course that the writers themselves has changed they are not born in the 1920 any more:)

But i understand the nostalgic reasons for CM saying Holey Moley and Gosh!:D

*gasp*, though, isn't an expression -- it's the verbal equivalent of a sound effect (i can't think of the correct term) ... much like the quintessentially dc silver-age *choke*.

No one. Nobody said "Gasp" in the fifties, either. An' I kind of doubt that "Goodness Gracious" was used ALL that much, either.

For that matter, nobody actually talks using the pointed, precise language of modern comics writing either. Seriously. Try reading current comics out loud without cracking up. (This works MUCH better as a group activity.)

Just one flavor of stylized, unrealistic dialouge has gained prominence over past flavors of stylized, unrealistic dialouge. Way of the world.
