Where have I been?? I literally stumbled on this brand new comic featuring one of my favorites, John Severin, today at my LCS. DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. NOTHING. (Even checked Scott's blog to be sure I hadn't missed a review of it by him).
It's a $4.99 Punisher one-shot called The Tyger (yes, after Blake's poem). I've never made any bones about my distaste for Garth Ennis as a writer, and I have no interest in The Punisher as a character or as a continuing comic book series.
Imagine my surprise. It's a riveting story, and the art is, well, amazing. Brings to mind some of Severin's EC work, it's that gritty and disturbing.
I'd love to hear from others (especially J. Severin fans) about this book. What did you think?
I'm puzzled by the lack of advance publicity this major Severin project has received. What is going on? Was it squeezed out by all the Civil War hoopla?
The handful of reviews of this comic posted on the web are 100% raves. It's clearly an impressive piece of work. So why is it not even a blip on the radar screen for all of us?
