I believe it's JSA Liberty Files, right?

And it's pretty good.

The art is AWESOME.

The story is...a little less than awesome. :)

There was, and lucky for you, BOTH stories are collected in a trade TOGETHER!

Here (http://tfaw.com/gn/profile.html?&sku=TFAW76194124113500111) is some info about the trade. :)

-Brian

PS...the sequel is a good deal worse....although the art is still awesome. :)

The sequel is built almost entirely around a twist.

And I don't think the twist is all that interesting/clever.

So that sorta colored my opinion of the sequel. :)

The original is written better, more like a standard World War historical fiction...only with superheroes!

I found the entire thing to be one of the greatest Elseworld ever writen. The Sequal (The Unholy Three) was fraking AWESOME. Tony Harris's art is top of his game on both.

I HIGHTLY recomend the trade to all.

Except if you examine the plot at all, it all falls apart. It's a cute little elseworlds and I like the designs and absolutely adore the art but the plots are crap and character moments are a bit cheesy, especially in the 2nd one. Sub-par story saved by incredible art.

And I think, the more into WWII history you are, the less you'll like it.

sounds good to me, it is a comic not a history book after all. so would the trade be cheaper, or should i hunt down the 4 books at the next con??

Definitely the trade.

The individual issues were VERY expensive at cover price (something like $7 a pop).

How so? I'm a WW2 buff and thought both stories were excellent. Rank up there with the best EWs.

The trade with both mini-series is probably my favorite DCU book these days.

Seriously, get it!

What do you mean? We see how the existence of super-beings changed the dynamics of the war (the fact that it's a Elseworld might have had something to do with it), so they were clearly not going for historical accuracy.

Not that I can think of. I mentioned the trade because that's what I own and I'm more of a trade person these days, but if the singles issues are what you want, go for it. I think it's well worth it.

EDIT: I just checked, and there are no extras.

Well Historical accuracy in the events is not to be expected, but in the setting, it should be better. I Remember there wern't any MAJOR things, but it still annoyed me. Not as much as the actual plots though. The plots are so illogical that they border on nonsensical.

I don't really know what you're talking about, so I can't respond. I just noticed that some things were obviously different because it was a different reality.

Now you've got ME curious, as I don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. Can you elaborate? I didn't see any huge glaring lack of logic anywhere, but, I wasn't exactly looking for it, either.

Hehe...I like the history of screen names. :)

My screen name is after the great Irish cellist, Brian Cronin.

Or it's my actual name.

Whichever. ;)

Harris and Jolley had talked about doing a prequel, with Clock, Bat, and Cat. But, with the seeming end of Elseworlds as a format, it seems like a dead subject, now.

well that sux, i'd be interested to see the cat, don't know much about his regular dcu character but he looks cool to me

Actualy it was going to be about The Cat, The Clock, and The Owl. Since The Bat didn't join the Unholy Three until The Liberty Files. Which would/will be cool, as anything that doesn't thump us over the head with Batman and Superman is ace in my book.

It'd be nice to see a Wonderwoman analog though (The Wonder perhaps?)

That's why it'll never happen. DC doesn't take that kind of risk any more - EVERYthing has to have something to do with Batman, Superman, or both. :p

Oh, they'd probably just have killed her off, preferably gruesomely. :p

That's basically why I stopped being interested in Elseworlds - they became rote formula killfests centered on Supes and/or Bats. "Unholy Three" was particularly offensive because James Robinson in "The Golden Age" had taken the same basic idea, twisted it harder, come up with a more effective "Gotcha!", and written a better story - all WITHOUT explicitly referencing the Big Two. (But it was still a killfest and I emphatically detested that aspect of it.)

Damn shame, at that. :(

Hopefully they'll get around to doing it under another format....maybe re-collect all 3 ? :D

Maybe now that there is a JSA Classified, they can do it as an arc there. Like they put ICBINTJL in JLA Classified.

WHAT? Who? WHEN??? Where? and most importantly... WHY???????

Was this announced or something because if so I TOTALLY missed it.

I LOVE the Elseworlds books... especially when done right like the Liberty Files or Golden Age.

I can't remember when and who I read that from. It was awhile back. I think it was when Another Nail came out. That was the reason The New Frontier didn't get the tag, even though it was obviously not in continuity.
