I've been on a jag for noir titles from the 50s of late. And, I came across this. I've poked around, but haven't been able to confirm (my Web-fu ain't great) if Arnold Drake author of the novel "The Steel Noose" is also Arnold Drake author of Doom Patrol, Deadman and X-Men.

Anyone have any insight?

This isn't definitive, but check out this link to a recent interview with Drake by Mark Voger of PAGE X:

Just when comic book aficionados think they know all about Drake -- creator and writer of DC Comics' long-running superhero titles "Deadman" and "Doom Patrol," writer of DC's comedy titles "Bob Hope," "Jerry Lewis" and "Stanley and His Monster" -- we find out about his accomplishments in other mediums.

Drake wrote the 1954 novel "The Steel Noose," and produced, wrote, acted in and composed music for the 1965 sci-fi cult-classic film "The Flesh Eaters."

To my knowledge, Drake is still living (born 1924) and was honored in person in 2005 with the Bill Finger Award.

Nice find, by the way. Those Ace paperbacks are almost always a delight in any genre.

I have an email address for an Arnold Drake who acts as an artists' agent. He represents Luis Dominguez, I know that much. I'm not sure if it's *the* Arnold Drake, but if you want the address, PM me.

Rob, that's almost certainly *the* Arnold...he's known to be very close with Dominguez.

Wow, novelist, screenwriter, producer, composer, agent! (One of these things is not like the others...) He's quite the renaissance man!

In addition to the titles mentioned, Drake also wrote some early Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) and the first Guardians of the Galaxy appearance, which are some of my favorite of the first wave of "post-Stan" Marvel stories.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I always love learning more about comic creators. Sounds like Mr. Drake is definitely multi-talented.

Has anyone seen 50,000 B.C. (Before Clothing)?

It sounds.... intriguing.
