Newsarama:
"CHAYKIN TALKS GUY GARDNER"
http://www.newsarama.com/dcnew/GreenLantern/GuyGardner/CHAYKINGARDNER.html

The craptacular new Wizard web site:
EXCLUSIVE: CHAYKIN RETURNS TO GREEN LANTERN
http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/wizard/000453198.cfm

Both feature interviews with Chaykin, who gives both basically the same quotes, right down to explaining the haircut. Newsarama seems to me to have the much better images to go along with their story -- you can see the full images without clicking on the thumbnails, PLUS they did the work to find that cover that DiDio hired Chaykin based on. Yet WIZARD claims an exclusive [sic].

BWAH HA HA

This is a prime example of why ever claiming "exclusive news" is such a canard on the web.

Exclusive my @$$.

I haven't gone to wiz's site. Don't want them to jack up the hit ratio more than they already will. :D

You know, I've always liked the fact that CBR usually acknowledges when they're offering up Press Releases as articles. There's not such attribution to either of these articles, but the line for line quotes suggest a PR is behind both. NEWSARAMA wins for the better presentation and the fact their writer/reporter actually seems to have taken the PR and made a story out of it, with additional quotes and reportage.

That's the first time I've been over to the new Wizard site. Funny story: I work for WIZN-FM, and since 1983 we've been "The Wizard", and one of our liners is "The Wizard Rocks". We tried to get wizardworld.com as a URL for our station's website back in 1996... guess who snagged it just before we did? Oh yeah, btw you can hear us live online at our actual web site, www.wizn.com.

And that Chaykin cover on #196 got me to start picking up the book back in... damn, what was it, '86? Cool cover... it's still the starting point for my GL collection!

I'm so out of it I didn't even realize Wizard was firing up a new site - I now see there are several posts on the subject!

Cool that Chaykin is back to working on comics full-time though eh? Hawkgirl hasn't gone anywhere yet, but it looks great. I'll be buying the Gardner mini-series for sure!

Cheers,

Murray
(still have my last issue of Wizard mag - Ninjak #1 was the #1 hot book - Ninjak ruled.)

I remember that 1st cover to Ninjak. That book was hot in it's day! :)

Ah, but which NINJAK? Wait, nevermind. Stupid question. OF COURSE it was the Quesada one, not the Busiek one. How many issues did Quesada last on that title? 3?

HA! I know of this book, but never read it.

Jaime, you have to buy it! Quesada and Palmiotti at their best! Honestly, the post-Shooter Valiant was really hit or miss; there was alot of sort of fair-to-middlin' books, even more really bad books, and far too few phenomenal books. When Shooter was running the place, 90% of the output was magical. The Unity Crossover still stands imo as the greatest company crossover ever done.

I've heard nothing but good thinks about Unity, although I'm not sure I've ever read a Vailaint book in that era or the few years after. In another few years i'm sure someone will get the rights to reprint them and nostalgia will reign supreme! Then I'll get it. :)

I'd get that book for 1-cent, but the shipping would kill me! If I see it for under $1 somewhere, I'll pick it up! If you like the Jimmy/Joe books, you've gotta look for the early Ash stuff. Killer art!

I have the Ash stuff - yeah, it looked great. Have to say I don't remember the story being any hell, but it was pretty. And Augie, Joe and Jimmy did last 3 issues on Ninjak. The best Quesada/Palmiotti Valiant book was X-O Manowar #0 - just insanely good. One guy owns every page - I think he's looking for 15K for it.
