I had to perform a sad duty on 06-06-06, The vet came over and euthanized my dog. :( She was 15 years old, couldn't use her left hind to walk, could hardly see and was in a great deal of pain. She was also a royal pain in the ass, but I miss her terribly.
I know she was "just an animal" and I can always get another, but dammit, she was a member of the family for 14 years and I need time to mourn. However, due to health concerns, I probably won't get another pet because I won't beable to care for it properly and it wouldn't be fair to the animal.

I've been where you are. It's always hard losing a pet.
Just know that her pain is over, and that you were with her at the end.

Sorry, man. Just try to think of it as being the best thing for your dog. It's better for her to RIP as opposed to living in constant pain.
My pets are definately part of the family and will be mourned when they pass.

I'm sorry. It's always tough, losing an animal friend. They really *do* become part of the family. Go ahead and mourn... there's nothing wrong, and a great deal right, with it.

I'm truly sorry, Double. I had to put my cat to sleep last year and I know that our pets are more than "just animals", they're members of our family.
It sounds like your dog lived a long happy life and you have my condolences for your loss.

My condolences, man. Went through that myself 15 years ago. My family have never gotten another dog.

Buddy, you can cry your eyes out. I understand exactly how you feel. My best friend died 1 year ago after being w/ me for 14 years, from 4th grade elementry school until my Senior year of college. She was an amazing dog. I loved her more then anything.
The best thing to do is remember the great times you had w/ that animal. I hope your health issues improve so you can enjoy another animal.

You did a great thing.
I faced a bad situation a couple years ago and chickened out. Had my two cats for 18 years. I watched one die a slow horrible death because I couldnt bring myself to take her to be euthenized (Cancer). I hate that part of my past, and I got to spend more time with her...but at her expense. It is such a debate among humans, whether its OK to euthanize a human in pain rather than let them live in pain. I learned my lesson. I hope she can forgive me.
Last year my other little kitty died (sudden natural death). My apartment felt so lonely after 18 years of sharing my world with two little furry friends.
But a month ago I got a puppy. It was time. And I have to say I have never been more in love with an animal. Little "Chewy" is a handfull, but makes me smile like nothing else on God's green earth.
I hope maybe you will be able to find another animal companion again soon, if it cant be a dog or cat, perhaps look into some sort of hamster or other cage animal. Easier to take care of. Plus nice to snuggle.
Condolences and best of luck in yer future. :)

That's rough, but Patrick is right - you did the right thing AND the tough thing, which is quite often the same thing.
