View Full Version : Damn, I'm Stressed!

There's been a lot of restructuring lately at work, and I'm caught up in the middle. My counterpart from our sister district will be taking on my job duties as well as her own. I'll be doing something totally different. Unfortunately, I have to prepare everything for the handover to her for tomorrow. On top of that extra work and my normal job duties, I still have to do everything to finish up the month and train her on our customers. I have emails sent constantly bombarding me with new crap I have to get done. I haven't done a good enough job of getting it all down into words, here, but I just had to vent. I'm so freakin' stressed out!!!

Also, my Dad who happens to be one of my coworkers, had knee surgery on 5/15. He's still out with complications. I hope he gets better soon for obvious reasons, but also for a little moral support here at the shop!

Take solace in the fact that the reasons why you are stressed are temputure and the fact that what's causing you stress is going to improve your life and go away in short order. A month from now you will only be doing one job and it sounds like a promotion so you are going to be better off professionally than you are today. Finally it sucks your father had surgery if he was forced to have surgery that means that he was in a tremendous amount of pain. After a period of rehab he will be doing much better than he was doing before the surgery. My only real advice is to grin and bear it with the realization that tomorrow is going to be much better than today.

Wasn't there an episode of Seifeld where George would act way stressed out - like on the verge of psychotic and everyone started leaving him alone and saying what a great worker he was? Just go out back once in a while and yell real loud. I've heard it helps.

Vent. Go out and hit things. Do some heavy activity.

Stress is a killer, man. Get it out of yourself. And like they said -

We're rooting for you.
And let it go...if you can (easier said than done, I know).

Guys, sorry, I just got a chance to read all of the kind words and sage advise, here. This was what I was needing. You guys rock! My week is almost over, now. I handed off the inventory that had to be done by the end of May to another guy at the office, I did the handoff via email and copied my boss. I don't know if it got done or not, either, so I'm kinda worried they might try to come down on me. Then, it'll be on like Donkey Kong! Tomorrow is the last day that I will be training the woman who is taking on my title, so that's good. Also, I can always look at it like this: Everytime someone from another office comes in, we always go out to eat at the company's expense. Today, for example, I had some Macho Nachos. This plate was stacked taller than I am! Special thanks, here goes to Larry Dixon. Thanks for the PM. Sorry I haven't responded.

That's a boss' nature to be a dick. I think that's a requirement for most positions. ;)

Sorry he's being an ass. Sometimes all you can do is take a break, relax and enjoy a silent moment without the boss around.

Stacy's absolutely correct that being a dick is a requirement to be a boss. In the interview they ask the potential boss:

-"So what kind of dick are you? Are you a 'cold shower' kind of dick or a 'look-it's-the-new-Victoria-Secret catalogue' kind of dick?"

-"Well sir, I think of myself as a 'just-watched-an-Angelia-Jolie-movie' kind of dick but I believe that with my attitude and determination that I could even become a 'Scrambled-porn' kind of dick"

-"That's what I'm looking for! Now go out there and treat your subordinates like dirt!"

You just need to suck it up and do what i always do. As little as possible so you'll have more fun watching the new person take on the resposiblities and not be prepared. It makes me laugh just sitting here thinking about it.

Just remember keep thier expectations low so that they don't ask you to do too much.

Put up a poster of " American Psycho " in your workplace and bring up what a great movie it is and how you can relate SO MUCH to Christian Bale's character around your boss.

He may lean off your " buttons " for a while.

Or you'll get sacked and have a restraining order put on you.

Hmm. Bad idea.

Well, I'm sick as a dog. I was up all night vomiting pretty much every hour from 7:00 last night to 4:30 this morning. Then, to top it off, it looks like I'm either gonna be fired tomorrow or seriously reprimanded. There's a long story behind this, it's not about my being sick, it's some other stuff. I just don't feel like typing it all up, yet. I guess if I get fired, I'll have all the time in the world, then.

Thanks, I appreciate that very much.

I did raise my voice to my boss, this morning, which I shouldn't have. I should've just let it go, but I was so sick, and I didn't feel like being f'd with, you know?

My wife was nice enough to come home, and console me. She's a sweety. We've been searching the want ads, and I typed up my resume. We figured up the bills, and it appears that we could make it if we only paid the minimum on our credit card, house, and truck payments. I'll get enough money when I quit to pay off one of my credit cards and my student loans. Then, it appears as though I'd have to get my phone and internet shut off, quit getting my comics, and cancel my blockbuster.com account. Also, Christmas would pretty much be out the window, and so would Cape next year. The main downside that I can really see is that we might not be able to do foster care if we're not able to pay our bills. I don't know. I'm really trying my bestest to not dwell on it. I'm just trying to be prepared, you know.

Well, that's good that you have a back up plan. It's always a good idea to prepare for the worst...while hoping for the best ;)

Since it was only this morning that you mouthed off to your boss, I would hope that he would understand that you had been sick all night and weren't in your normal state of mind. Or at least what passes for normal.:p

Even if you don't have this job anymore, I don't think that you'll be unemployed for long. I'll bet that you could find another job quicker than you are giving yourself credit for. That's what being sick'll do to you though. It'll make a not-so-great situation seem a lot worse than it is. The good thing too is that your wife is so understanding and supportive. You're blessed to have a compassionate partner like that.:)

Sorry to hear about your situation Az but it's really not the end of the world. I've lost 3 jobs in 6 years due to lay-off's and companies moving. Last November I bought my house (first time home owner!) and got laid off from my job literally 10 days later. I won't say it was a blessing but I did end up getting a job that currently pays me about $5000 a year more.

Of course, it is a manufacturing job and I was just recalled after a three week lay-off. With the way the manufacturing workforce is in MA, I really don't expect to last more than 5 years at any job I go to any more. Because of that, I make sure to plan properly or as best as possible for my future and retirement.

Not entirely true. I just sent two new hires off to pee in a cup this afternoon. We'll get the tests back Monday and if they are clean, they'll do orientation on Tuesday and be out on the sales floor Wednesday. Which will give me exactly Wednesday to get them trained. I'm off for Thanksgiving and Friday is Blitz.

So, yeah, if either of them survive the first week, they're keepers. My Assistant Manager is already making plans for which departments he wants to move them to after Christmas. The theory is, if they can survive toys at Christmas and work for me, they can handle working anywhere in the store.
