Truthfully, this day always makes me into a mumbling idiot.

I don't have the necessary articulation to express my admiration and gratitude to the people this day commemorates, so I'll just have to stick with thank you, and may your sacrifices never be forgotten.

I'm probably not the most patriotic American you can find. But, a guy I know from over on the DC boards is in the army; And as such, he has to move around a lot (he's currently stationed in the U.K.). If I had to say anything at all about the army, it's simply just that it's an uncertain life in an already uncertain world. While he seems to be doing just fine, regardless of this, (and with a supporting family) I still can't imagine what kind of strength such a life would take. So may he (and others) take care.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Last night/ after midnight (so technically today), I spent some time with a friend of mine. He joined the army reserves and ended up getting called up. He isn't stationed in Iraq but he processes many of the soldiers that go through the base he is stationed at and he does what he can.

Irregardless of that, I told my friend how much I respected him.
