My short story got rejected by a publisher. :( I am so hurt (well a little hurt).
You know what they say; If at first you don't succeed, break out the Bacardi, and act like you did. ;)
I will review my story and send it off to another publisher. Its worth multiple submissions. That, and I hate giving up on my passions. :D

J.K. Rowling submitted Harry Potter to several publishers and was rejected by all of them before Scholastic bought it. Bet the ones who turned it down are kicking the hell out of themselves, now.

Truely a bummer, but at least, you tried. Did the editors give a reason for rejecting it? Give you any pointers? Or just a plain old "Sorry" letter?

Oh, I bet they are kicking themselves, right in the crotch. That book made a lot of people's carreer (job security).
priestvyrce, I got a generic message via email. I can print it for ya:
Dear Stacy,
Although we won't be publishing this particular piece, we do thank you for sending "Some Kind of Underful". It was a good read. We're not able to give specific feedback, but please take a look at Editors' Input for some ideas. Again, we appreciate the opportunity to read your work!
It's of course, not the end of the world, but for once, I'd love to see "we accept," instead of "thanks, but no thanks."

Oh hells bells yes! Hardly anybody ever got published by submitting to one company.

True. I did hope though. :)

Keep at it man, I'm sure someone will pick it up! Well, not SURE, but keep working on it and something good will come out of it.

Stacy, that's actually a good rejection. They acknowledged reading it, thought it had merit, and pointed you to somewhere which they thought might improve your work.
Editors don't do that unless they mean it. They're too busy to bother with compliments just to be polite. "This is not suitable for us" would be a basic rejection.
Hang in there. This is a good sign. The next time you submit to them, a new story or maybe a revised version of this one (if you think it needs revision--this editor could be wrong and it might find a home as is elsewhere), they'll remember your name.

Corrina,
Thanks for that pointer. I didn't see it fully that way. That's hope for future submissions.
On a good note I have another story. This one's not prose, its an eight page comic I wrote and a friend will do the art for. The jury's still out on that.
As far as prose goes, I'm back to writing. Thanks to all who posted and encouraged. :D I am grateful for the kind words.

I am positive something excellent will turn up from wriiting and improving my craft. To be honest this has been the best rejection. Normally that last sentence would be so wrong, but I know better. ;) :D
