I'm looking for a good deal on some good minis.

I might get the Wolverine original in trade, I've heard it's essential stuff.

After that, I tried Magik etc

Anyone got any other ideas?

God Loves, Man Kills is one you must have. X-men vs Avengers was also pretty good.

Sheesh, where to start??

Who are your fave characters, that might narrow it down a bit...

I really liked X-men vs Fantastic Four & Fallen Angels. Both those are both ancient.

For recent ones, I LOVED the art and liked the story on Colossus: Bloodlines. The Chamber mini Rocked total socks. The Magneto War mini was fun too.

Twigglet, you don't have the Wolverine mini-series. It is essential reading.

X-Men vs. the Micronauts is actually really good fun. 4-issues long.

X-Men vs. Fantastic Four: This ties into the core book back then, so its important. A damn good read too (but hand out band-aids to Reed, Ben, Jen, Johnny and Sue, because the FF need some first-aid by the end!!) 4-issues.

Wolverine and Kitty Pryde mini: A whole lot of fun. 6-issues

X-Men: True Friends/ Kitty Pryde and Rachel Summers take a time-travelling romp to cheery old England. They find Nazis, Wolverine and the evils of the Shadow King. Damn fun 3-issue mini.

X-Men vs. the ClanDestine/You don't have to know anything about Alan Davis' ClanDestine team, this is still a wild ride. Davis provides story/art and it's a career highpoint for him. 2-issues

Nightcrawler 4-issue mini/Kurt Wagner's high-flying swashbuckling adventure is a great romp. Highly recommended.

Mekanix RULES. Period. IMO, the best CC has done since his return to the X.

Still hoping for a vol.2, once in two months isn't enough Kitty for me!:evilangry

Ow, other good mini's (Jubilee isn't featured in that many mini's...);

X-men vs Avengers

Gambit's first mini (only if you like Gambit ofcourse ;) )

Rise of Apocalypse

Archangel & Psylocke; Crimson Dawn

Magik :D

And yes, the first Wolverine mini is essential reading for any comic book fan, X -fan or not.

There might be more, but I'd have to check...

My favorite is, by far, Havok and Wolverine: Meltdown. The recent Colossus mini was pretty good as well.

I'd say the original Claremont/Miller Wolverine mini too.

Also, the Brian K. Vaughn Chamber mini was pretty decent.

Yes. But it's out of print, so you have to try to snag it off Ebay for a decent price.

I do, beast, and i'm probably one of the few people who remembered it. I also loved the Fantastic 4 vs. teh X-Men mini as well, the avengers vs. x-men was a little um...I didn't really care for it as much as the fant. 4 one. I don't know why, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

The Chamber mini series by Bryan K Vaughan is great...got some wonderful dialogue....what i love about it most is that it truley picks some holes in whether what the X-Men are doing is right or not.

I liked the Madrox mini, but other than that I haven't really read anything. House of M was a little fun before things got retarded.

As long as it was the first series, and not the amanda sefton one, that one sucked hard.

The Madrox mini rules.

I found #1 of a Cyclops mini by Vaugnan and Texiera, and it seemed promising. But then, I like Cyclops.

Avid 'Black Sun'. Avoid it like the plague.

Cyke is my favorite X-man and BKV is currently one of my top 3 writers but that mini wasn't very good imo unfortunately.
However, BKV's chamber mini (published under the same "Icons" imprint) was pretty sweet. I picked both 4 issue mini's up at my LCS a short while back for £1.50 each. £3 for 8 issues, awesome!!!

Agreed on Madrox.

Disagree on Cyclops (one of the worst X-mini's I've read)

Disagree on Black Sun too...It's pretty good IMO, but I didn't like the end (Amanda Sefton becomes Magik).

Firestar #1-4 (This story demonstrates just how evil, the White Queen, Emma Frost is outside of Uncanny X-Men & The New Mutants; we also get more of the inner workings of Frost's Masschusettes Academy).

Longshot #1-6 (1st Longshot, Spiral, & Mojo; this series is important because Longshot joins the X-Men; whereas, Spiral joins Freedom Force while still free enough to be Mojo's slave to hoodwink the New Mutants, Captain Britain, Betsy Braddock, Rachel Summers, & the X-Men in The New Mutants Annual #2 & Uncanny X-Men #199, 206, 209, 225-226 & Uncanny X-Men Annual #10 respectively ).

Firestar #1-4 (This story demonstrates just how evil, the White Queen, Emma Frost is outside of Uncanny X-Men & The New Mutants; we also get more of the inner workings of Frost's Masschusettes Academy). That's exactly why I loved this mini so damned much. Tom DeFalco really "gets" Emma Frost, and he let her shine in this mini in all her evil glory. Angelica is such an intriguing character, and she went through so much in just four issues. Great art by Mary Wilshire, too. Firestar is easily the best X-Men mini series in which the Hellfire Club is involved.

It was just reprinted in Digest form. I highly suggest you read it, Twig. You'll never look at Auntie Emma the same way again :p :)

Wow, I would've assumed this mini was universally hated after reading it, but I guess some folks dug it. Personally, with the exception of Kitty's action sequence at the beginning, I found the whole thing tedious, and most of the art unappealing. I very nearly quit reading before I finished it, and that almost never happens.

Black Sun is rushed. Claremont introduces Amanda Sefton as Magik II (Belasco believes Magik II to be Magik I). The N'Garai are involved. It's just a mess.

It's just a mess.
No it's not - I liked those two enemies teamed up given their history with Shadowcat (Uncanny 143 & 160). :D As for Belasco confusing Amanda with Illyana, how many times has he been in the X books and seen Illyana since Uncanny 160 & Magik 1 to 4?

Must second (because they've both already been mentioned) the Chamber mini by BKV - this one is not available in trades, I believe - and the Madrox mini - I think the actual name is Multiple Choice - which is available in trades.

I've read a bunch of others, but these stand out. Some really great characterizations and insight (which is what you want in a mini, right?) plus some fun dialogue and action. Really get you into the two characters. Of course, it helps if you're a fan of these two already :p

ETA: You may have noticed that I'm a Nightcrawler fan, but I wouldn't really recommend his Icons series - it was just a little too depressing for a Kurt story.

God Loves, Man Kills (graphic novel)
Wolverine (Frank Miller one)
Wolverine & Kitty Pryde
Nightcrawler
X-Men vs. Fantastic Four
X-Men vs. Avengers (weaker than vs. FF, but good)
Havok and Wolverine: Meltdown
Fallen Angels
X-Men: True Friends
Magik
Mekanix
Madrox
Phoenix: Endsong
Colossus: Bloodlines

There was also a late 80's Wolverine & Spider-Man team up one...but I'm blanking on the exact name...(and I too remember Beauty & The Beast...but it didn't move me all that much...)
