Not only was Alex Toth a great artist but judging by his letters he was a funny, enthusiastic and highly intelligent man.

This is a great loss.

This is very sad news, indeed.

I really enjoyed his work - wonderful stuff. He had a truly unique vision and told stories like no other creator.

Just last night, I was reading one of the Jack Oleck/Alex Toth stories from
the House of Mystery Showcase. Brilliant stuff.

I'm fortunate to own a page of 'Al' Toth art. It's the title page to a back-up from Rawhide Kid #46. It is one of my most cherished possessions.

I feel like sitting down with a cup of coffee and the Complete Zorro Adventures this morning.

I put down some more thoughts later, when I can organize them a bit better.

Thanks for all of the memories, Alex.

Terribly sad news. I just wrote an article about him for Ninth Art (it's here (http://www.ninthart.com/display.php?article=1207) if anyone wants to see it) and it's a dreadful shame that it's come so quickly on the heels of his being discharged from hospital - I really thought he was going to make a full recovery :(

The first time I read Jon B. Cooke's description Alex as the greatest living American comic book artist, I thought he was exaggerating. I now realize that Jon was absolutely right.

May he rest in peace. We are all the poorer for having lost him.

I've posted a fairly long entry (4 parts) on my blog http://seductionoftheindifferent.blogspot.com/ dealing with Alex Toth and his career. I share some of my thoughs, an overview of his work, and some sample of his artwork.

Please check it out if you're interested.

Just got back from a weekend trip to this news. Terrible news. To me, Toth was the artist who always, first and foremost, told the story. You wouldn't think that would be such a rare thing in comics, but...

Loved the way he could strip the art down to essentials, yet make it very realistic in terms of expression, gesture, perspective.

I was so sad to read this Sunday Morning. I hope he is having a good talk with Kirby over some Cigars and beverages.

Can I just say that saddened by the loss of one of my Heroes, The lack of response to his death affects me more.

I'm an Avid COH/V player and when I'd heard I posted on their forums... to nothing. Not even a single response... Erggh! It just makes me furious, frustrated and... ugh.

Sorry, I won't lettem get to me.

God bless you Sir. Thank you for all the inspiration you given and continue to give me.

I loved Toth's style even before I knew who he was.

What's funny is just yesterday I opened my newly bought House Of Mystery "Showcase Presents" collection where I left off - at a story with Toth art.

In respect I uploaded a lot of Toth image to the CAC gallery here:
Alex Toth Gallery at Comic Art Community (http://www.comicartcommunity.com/gallery/categories.php?cat_id=154)

Respect,
Terry

Wow! Some great stuff. I really like his Sue Storm and Dr Doom. Man DC should make a Toth special Hardcover or something.

I remember reading a cool Black Canary story and a great Batman he did on his site and wish I could have them in physical form.

His Batman story, 'Death Flies the Haunted Skies', can be found in 'The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told', if you wanted to pursue it that way.

The Black Canary story has also been reprinted (I hear it's in the BC archive, though I know I used to have it somewhere else years ago... maybe in one of the Blue Ribbon Digests?).
