I just discovered Atari Force during a recent Jose Luis Garcia Lopez spree. I had previously avoided the series whenever I encountered it in back issue bins, reasoning that any comic based on Atari games would be mediocre, but it's a solid read. I'd rank it with the better European SF/adventure material, which is typically head-and-shoulders above domestic stuff.

Conway's dialogue communicates a lot without being clunky or wordy (a common pitfall in SF writing), and he balances action and character moments well. The art by Garcia Lopez is fantastic; exceptional even by his high standards. Excellent figure work and faces, lovely backgrounds, and some interesting storytelling approaches in the layouts. Villagran's inks are the icing on the cake: the best inks I've seen over Garcia Lopez. Smooth, confident, well-informed brushwork that makes JLGL look even better than usual. (It's a shame he didn't ink every issue.)

And I couldn't argue with the price; picked up several issues for less than $2 apiece!

I was a big fan of this series when it was out. Really loved Dart.

I don't read comics, but I bought as many of these as I could based on the Garcia Lopez art.

I loved Atari Force when it came out. Along with Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, it was the reason I started picking up DC titles.

Say what? Since when? Do you just collect them? Do you just look at the pictures? Our president once said, "One of the best things about books is that sometimes there are some realy great pictures." This is a joke right.

I'll get this from Lone Star next order. (Under a dollar for all but issue one which is a dollar.)

Some Atari Force fan got really mad when Ambush Bug (in his Stocking Stuffer) did a "1001 Uses for aead Hukka.

I love Atari Force. I don't know if either of its two main creators ever produced a stronger piece of work. Dart is an unforgettable character, and Christopher and Morphea aren't bad either.

Count me as another big Atari Force fan. One of the best space-operas to find its way into comic books.

I particularly liked Ambush Bug's treatment of AF's alien ally/pet/mascot (I forget his name).

Did you manage to get a copy of the freebie issue that was given out with breakfast cereal, or some-such?

Anyone have any idea what the copyright status of these characters is? I assume they're owned by DC (well, except for the "Atari" name) but not part of the DCU -- so at least it's possible someone will make use of them somewhere down the road. I wouldn't mind seeing Tempest again ...

Nope; just several of the regular issues.

Damn. I never got to see that one (we don't get the same promotional stuff in Europe).

I need to find someone with a scanner, who was into breakfast cereals in the early 80s!
