For anyone who wasn't checking out the "Tony Bedard's Upcoming Plans for Exiles while CC Recovers..." thread, we have some new friends chiming in from what used to be behind the Iron Curtain. They don't seem to like me much, but I love them and their hilariously direct criticism. Seriously.
Gentlemen, tell me all about yourselves, tell us where we can find any fan fiction you might like to share, and we will tell you all the glories of our Consumer Culture.
But please just don't call anyone who posts here a "Bedard Butt-licker." Yeah, it's funny, but let's all treat each other with respect even if we don't agree.
Also, I want to hear about which comics you DO like (aside from Winick's EXILES).

Oh, and I want to know how old you are (if you don't mind) and if you all know each other in person, or just through the internet.
Me? I'm 39 years old, live in Florida, born in Puerto Rico, and lived in the Philippines for 5 years.

You know, I was the editor on TRANSMET for a little while.
Also, WANTED was drawn by a very good friend of mine, J.G. Jones. I met him back when we both worked for Jim Shooter's Broadway Comics. I have a couple of his paintings up on my office wall.
As for SANDMAN, I used to read it, but lost interest after the "A Dream of You" story arc. I know that Gaiman is way more talented than I'll ever be, but I don;t really enjoy much of his stuff. Still, I'll be reading ETERNALS when it comes out.
My favorite comic writer of all tome is Alan Moore!

Mi favorite Comics are: Spawn, Hellboy the old TTT series.
And of course the hungarian comics, becouse the culture of there is rise again! Years ago there was nothing... (It means only two-three comics: Ultimate Spiderman, Star Wars and Garfield. Thats all. Beofore theese times there was more. But it was then.)

And we hope there will be more...

Hi, I'm translating the Exiles comic books from the beginning (started with Blink mini) I'm a 28 years old male from Hungary,Vecsés (next to International Airport 2). Btw. my name is Szilárd Szabolcs.
Unfortunately, in Hungary there are no comic shops at all, so if we would like to buy our favorite comic, we have two choices: download, or import. And yes, most of the fans buys these comics, but still, it's a small market.
Tony, it's not You, the fans don't like behind the ex-"Iron Curtain", it's the bugs, and the unneccesary deaths (the beloved Namora, Mimic). The characters can't evolve, the storyline didn't let me like them. They are rotating too fast.
I never liked Beak, he did almost nothing, just called two Hyperions, it's not a big deal... I don't like Longshot either, he's not a real exile. And Proteus... I hate him.
Something has lost since the bugs showed up, but this is only my personal opinion.
That shall I also say good, "Bump in the night" story was really cool.
Oh, and from the Winnick line, and the best Exiles story ever was #23-25, with the evil Iron Man and the Inhumans. My second personal favorite is #33, when Heather meets Wolverine.
Thanks for Your answers, and sorry for the grammar!

Hi, Tony!
I'm glad you give chance for conversation, after our comments in the other topic.:)
I'm 24, male. I'm from Budapest, but not originally. I lived in the countyside, at Csurgó, near the Croatian border. I moved to the capitol, when I started the university and I stucked here - it's a lovely city.
I graduated as an Englsih-History teacher, nowadays I'm a freelance online jounalist (no money in it) and I'm looking for a new job, because I left my previous job, what was professional translator. I bored the phrases like: parameter overflow pool, or electric fast transient burst. I'm not an engineer.
I like the eXiles, the Transmetropolitan (not by chance;) ), Wolverine, Preacher, the Squadron Supreme, LOEG, the Powers. My favourite writers are Ellis, Ennis, Moore, Bendis, Gaiman.
Winnick's works had other taste, than yours, but I told my opinion in the other topic. There is a Hungarian proverb: Someone likes the preacher, someone likes his wife.:)
I read a book by P. J. O'Rourke-Holidays in Hell. There is a report on the Philippines from 1987, NPA, the Cory Aqiuno government. It's very intersting. When did you lived there? Is the poverty the same than it was in 1987?
I think the Hungarian beers are only average I think, little worse, than the belgian ones. But the wines! You should try the world famous Tokaj Aszu, or the original Egri Bikavér (it means Bull-blood from Eger). You are always welcome here. And if you come, tell it Rick Magyar. I think he would be interested, because of his Hungarian origins. Magyar means Hungarian in Hungarian. So, he is Rick Hungarian.
Tony Bedard
05-27-2006, 09:48 AM
I will tell "Rick Hungarian" what his name means! I don't know if he is already aware of it.
Ennis is also one of my favorites. He is a good friend, too. Not at all the crazy person you mioght expect from his work.
I lived in the Phillipines as a child (1972-1977). Ferdinand Marcos was still in charge back then, and I was too young to understand the poverty. But I do know this: Filipino women are beautiful!

I think we do know it, too.
We were all banned for 1 week at our home-forum, the exiles topic was closed, because the moderators didn't like that we write our opinions to you, Tony. They said it all (I mean our, or some of ours explicit manner) was a trouble, a fault. Diamondblade's answer was in his generally rude manner (that we like so much:) ) and the end was what I wrote above. It's funny, I thought we will be banned from here.
If you don't mind, Tony, we gonna hanging around in this topic during the next week.:D And of course after that as well.

Guys, your English is great. Certainly better than my Hungarian.
The fact that most Americans only speak one language is a bit disappointing, although there are geographic reasons for this -- it's not sheer laziness.
I speak some Spanish (it was my first language, after all) which makes me appreciate the fact that you know enough English to express yourself here.
Anyhow, I welcome opposing viewpoints. I certainly don't consider myself a great writer. I just try hard. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. And i try to have fun, so that maybe you'll have fun reading the stories. But I'll be the first to agree that Winick is better than me, and I'll never rise to the level of guys like Garth, Alan Moore, or Brian Vaughan. That's okay. Not every basketball player has to be a Michael Jordan.
Also, i don't think you guys were being abusive in your posts. Very direct, and there are ideas and characters you feel strongly about, but I did not feel that you were attacking me personally. :o

Hi Tony, i'm Daniel Doszpod. I'm from Szeged, a city in the southern region of Hungary. I'm a student at this time, and "I R 25 yeez oud". :D
Favourite comix: Tellos (image), Batman (DC), a bit Spidey, X-men a Lot, and Calvin and Hobbes.
Writaz? hmm...maybe Alan Moore, i like, what he did with the dark knight o' gotham. ;) I don't know the Writers really. :(
I speak German, English (as well as u can C), a bit Spanish, Italian, Finnish. I like 2 learn Irish.
And "let's don't talk about me, let's talk about me." by Johnny Bravo.

Well, I'll chime in... although I'm American, my dad is Hungarian (from the town of Papa, ironically) and both of my grandparents on my mom's side are Hungarian, so that makes me a full-blooded Hungarian. I can't speak much of the language though, only numbers and a few easy words. My dad is fluent as he came to America at the age of 27 during the Communist invasion/revolution. Other than him, though, I don't know a single person who knows Hungarian, so I never saw much reason to learn it. (Hungarian-Americans are a tiny minority!)
Anyway, great to see so many comic readers from Hungary, despite the difficulty in getting books there.

Hi TB and for everyone.
I have to tell you, Mr. B. that you are handling awfully great this hungarian invasion (I was a part of it too). Congrats. I also dislike your run on the Exiles, but my opinion about your personality turned.
My name is B.Lovasi, 32 years old, married with children. Am a controller for a pharmaceutical company. Only since 3 years in the comics, but I have learned cool much. My favs are Exiles (...), Sandman, Chris Bachalo and Grant Morrison.
I hope we can discuss some topics.

Tony, I think you should concentrate on your own works, on those, what you created. I think the eXiles was better when Winick wrote it, but he created the basic story and characters, so maybe that's why it was better for us, and not because you can't reach his level. The own stories works better. What do you think?
Hi, Samurai! :) Do you have Hungarian first name, or just the second is Hungarian? I don't want to know your real name, just Y/N?

Hey!
Archer's right!
And there's some idea:
So the eXiles is not your own, but why don't you create some world, or characters or something what make you feel about the eXiles is your now.
And
You said the Wolverine story will be funny. If it will be a funny story and it will be good. It will be your way. Put something what never or less time was in the eXiles. Like Black or sarcastic humor or something.

Archer, you make a very good point. When you inherit a book from another writer, you will always be in his shadow. the book comes with its own set of expectations. When Claremont took over X-Men, I'm sure there were people who compared it unfavorably to the Roy Thomas or Stan Lee X-Men.
I wrote some series for CrossGen comics called Negation and Route 666. Try to get some of those. If you like Exiles, you will probably like Negation. I bet you could even order them on the internet. Those were series I got to build from the start and I felt very satisfied with them.

I don't mind giving out my name... It's Tom Miskey. Tom isn't Hungarian, but Miskey is the way the immigration officer spelled my dad's last name when he arrived (he couldn't speak any English back then). In Hungarian it sounds more like Mischkieh, or something like that. My middle name is Steven, the English translation of my Grandfather's name Istvan.
My dad had been a Staff Sgt in the Hungarian army and fought the Communists as long as he could, but finally had to flee the country. He has never gone back since then, though now that it has opened up again he's thought about it quite a bit. But we are a fairly poor family and a trip to Hungary would take a large chunk of our savings. His family was literally split in half by the revolution/invasion, with half making it out and half being trapped. Most of his relatives in Hungary, including his father, sister, etc are dead now. His brother in law is still alive and writes to him. The other half of his family, who made it out before the Iron Curtain fell, are living in the US or Canada. He often talks of seeing Lake Balaton or the Danube again (he was a sailor on the Danube river after WW2, carrying supplies and food up and down the river to refugee camps).
I'd love to visit Hungary some day, though lack of money is an issue for me too.

Samurai!
My nem is István, too. So we are drusza's. Drusza means the similarity of Hungarian first male names. Tom comes from Thomas? The Hungarian tally of it is Tamás. And the most popular nickname of Tamás is Tomi. We are not so far from one another, are we? :)
The history of your family is very interesting. You should write about it. Once, sometimes.
Tony, I'm eager upon getting your own comic books. I suppose I won't be disappointed.
How does a comic-book scipt look like? I can't imagine that. Do you have standards at the Marvel?

Okay, I found this topic, too.
My real name is Gábor (Gabriel) Tallósy, I'm 22 and I live in Szeged, just like Sijen, but I study mechanical engineering in the capital, so I'm don't spend much time at home now. I like lots of different comics, don't really have a particular favourite (well, maybe Michael Turner's Fathom & Aspen series, and...oh yeah, I'm a huuuuuuuuge fan of Rogue :D )
I would like to thank you too (and again) for giving us such a nice answer, I really didn't expect you to write in such manners after our little "invasion".
You're right, inheriting a title from a writer who created it is a difficult thing. People will always compare your work to his. And if you allow me, I'll do it now, but only in one detail: please, spend a little more time with creating the personalities of the characters. I understand that they change with time, but they are too far away from their original selves, and they've lost the...ahh...sorry, I can't discribe it...maybe "deepness"(?) they originally had. I can live with all the other things I mentioned previously, but this really bothers me. That's why I liked the New Mutanats v2 and the Academy X back then. It was full of new faces, but all of them had a very unique, special character, which made the series one of my favourites. The eXiles originally had this too, but now I feel like it's missing. Thanks for hearing me out.
Oh, and hi, Samurai, it's good to see someone from the US here, too.

Just curious, guys, but have you tried Weapon X? While the last 3 issues and the Days of Future Past kind of fell flat for me, the first 25 were great (not to mention the Draft oneshots). While most of these were not original characters of Frank's, he did a lot to develop little-used but much-loved characters like Alpha Flight members Box, Aurora, and Wild Child, for instance. The only thing I didn't care for in Tieri's early stories, and I must admit he's gotten better at, is introducing characters that seemed like they were just being developed so that you would feel something when they to be killed off.

Tony, I read the 77-79th issues and they were great. I'm urgently waiting for the newer ones! :)
Many Hungarian fans seem unwilling to write here, because of they poor English. I will make them write here somehow :) . I think it won't be a shame if their English is not the best.

I read this topic often, but rareley have time, to write. I'm working on my 30th eXiles fanfic, and have a lot of exams, and partys. So when I'm online, I don't have energy to think in english, write in english. Anyway Archer is here, he knows whats up. One of the new problems is about Spidey 2099, and Longshot. They didn't do any important. They're just there. Why? Buisness?
But please just don't call anyone who posts here a "Bedard Butt-licker." Yeah, it's funny, but let's all treat each other with respect even if we don't agree.

Longshot is there because his luck power, which warps probabilities, make him immune to Proteus's power. Plus, his hair kicks ass.
Spidey 2099 is there because no one was using him, and he has lots of fans. So there. :D
Actually, Spidey will make an important contribution in the final chapters of World Tour. And he has lots of fans (but not Diamondblade).
