No!

One is about a character with no history and is a romatiic comedy.

The other is about one of the biggest pop cultural icons on the planet with a rich 70 year history and is more action-adventure,

I think the three Spider-Man movies, the three X-Men movies and the five Batman movies have made the Superman movie less unique than one romantic comedy with a superhero slant.

Indeed. I can't see how this movie would undermine the new Superman movie in the slightest.

No. Superman is one of the best-known brands on Earth. Many people, even those who don't read comics at all/regularly have been looking forward to the new film for a long time. Many people are only now finding out about Thurman's new movie - which looks funny. If anything, I think it may be a way for many guys to get more of a "super" fix, because it's a comic book, but funny, and with a romance-gone-wrong, and high fashion. Girlfriends are more likely to want to see it, as opposed to being dragged to "SR!":p

It's extremely doubtful that My Super Ex Girlfriend will undermine Superman Returns in any way.

However, if any film is to undermine "SR", it will probably most likely be the POTC sequel.

Hardly likely. From the trailer I saw, MSEG seems more to be a fantasy film for women who have been dumped (ie. Chick flick). Guys who want their tostesterone quotient will go see Superman.

POTC has been officially retitled to Clerks 2. If there is one movie that cannot be undermined it would have to be Superman. With Batman a close 2nd.

By POTC, I meant Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.

Not the clerks sequel.

Not a chance, Ex is going to flop.

I see, I simply thought some of the general population might say" Superman Returns, BIG DEAL, Uma Thurman can do the same things he can!". Then again this is a small percentage hopefully.

I think, and hope others do to, that the idea of the movie is stupid and they won't watch it. Superman can never be undermined. Unless his name and symbol are used for bad by too many people. I don't know if anyone knows what I'm talking about. Never mind.

Too bad Uma Thurman already underminded Batman and Robin. I think she's intentionally going after Superman next.

No way. That movie looks horrible. A lot of my friends are intent on seeing it but it just looks really cheap to me. And the trailer wasn't funny, IMO, save for Wanda Sykes.

It looks like a funny romantic comedy, with an interesting new twist. I can't imagine how it could, in any way, have any affect on Superman Returns!

Uma Thurman in Batman and Robin was about the only thing that was easy on the eyes. ;)

I think the Thurman movie may do "Sky High" numbers... But the only thing that will be undermined is "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" may be undermined by "Superman Returns".

If Thurman's movie came out three months later, I think it would do better numbers.

I saw the trailer for both movies the other day at X-Men 3. My thoughts:

1. Uma looked really funny and I wanted to see it. Clever idea
2. Supes looked wimpy. Not bulked enough.
3. Not another whine feast about Lois. She has a baby - where were you? Who cares.
4. Spacey seems to be doing the whacky Luthor again with 40's style henchmen. While he is ruthless in Fortress of Solitude stuff, I really don't get a sense of true manical menance from him. He is no Magneto or Nicholson's Joker - from the trailer at least.
4. The effects - standard computer stuff. Saving a plane - big deal. I think the X-Men movie, esp. 2 with Nightcrawler and the big battle at the end of 3 set a very high level for superhero battles. I don't see that in Supes.

I'll see it but I'm not sanguine. I frankly don't give a crap about Lois anymore and don't care about her feelings. So over done.
