idk about u people out there, but whenever i see a superhero, no matter how cool they r, im just not satisfied. i always think of ways to change them with my own ideas. giving them new powers, costumes, and all these things that change them dramatically. for example, i start with a topic like lets say...sand. how do you make superman have powers that have to do with sand? you could give him powers over sandstorms, or modify powers he already has so instead of laser vision he would have sand vision. you know, something like that. something like this actually happened with DC when they made him have all these energy powers. he had a blue costume and was made up of all these molecules and stuff. he was like the flash and could go through objects. instead of the man of steel, he was the man of energy. and he had lots of new powers that replaced some of his old ones or got modified. so i want this thread to be for all these ideas for superman. give him new powers and abilities, new enemies and villains. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE HERE!! i'll add mine after someone starts it off, because i want this to be a long lasting thread!!:D

Fan Fiction:
Superman took Batman by the hand, and sat him down at the breakfast table.
"It's not you," he said. "It's me."
Batman knew he was buttering him up for an eventual letdown.
"You see, Batman, I have a lot of commitments already. There's always a crime somewhere, and I don't think I have enough time to spend with you. Plus, Lois keeps bringing up "the baby" conversation, and I just don't think now is the right time."
Superman could see a tear forming in Batman's eye.
"Don't cry, buddy; we'll still have time to get together and bust the occasional bootlegger or purse-snatcher, but I just don't think I want to have to be tied down to anything. You understand; don't you?"
Batman simply looked down at his boots.
"Look, Bats, I gotta go. Don't be a stranger, alright? We'll keep in touch."
And that is why they canceled the Brave and the Bold.

Naw, that's why they cancelled "World's Finest"!
Brave And Bold was cancelled because of poor sales! ;)

I've always thought it would be cool if Kryptonians possessed a strong genetic memory. This wouldn't be one of their powers under a yellow sun, it would be natural for them. This would allow Kal-El to know almost everything about his planet (without memory implants or total recall) and even know things Jor-El and Lara knew.

I thought about that myself as a nice way to get around the "Kal-El never knew his homeworld" thing.. Only I would make it fragmented, so that occasionally he remembers things differently.. So he'd be unsure of the Krypton he came from was the Pre-Crisis Siegel/Shuster "Volcanoes of Gold" one or the John Byrne "Sterile world of Crystal" one..

Interesting idea. You could even throw in some new Kryptons, ones that have never been done before.

They can actually use this now in the Up Up and away storyline on how superman gets his powers back because of the old kryptonian tech.

I don't think the charcater needs new powers but just for fun I'll think of something for you.
What if he could heel the sick in the same way it said that Jesus could? Give sight to the blind etc. What if he could bring back to life the recently dead?
This could be very interesting because he would be even more messiah like and maybe some folks would think he is Christ reborn.
He'd find it hard to operate as Superman crime buster because he'd have a constant barrage of sick people trying to get at him for the cure.
So this power could be something that once discovered by him back in Smallville he dare not use openly for the above reasons.
But he could of heeled Batman's broken back for instance.

How's this for a new idea: Superman gets horny. :D This is something I've been working on for a while and just put together/ created a website for it today: http://www.freewebs.com/supermanquest
Let me know what you think!

I believe he gets them back because he "wills" them to return.

ok well instead of giving him new powers, i think of changing him almost completely, almost like a transformation (or super saiyan lol). like when he was the man of energy and was almost like a whole different character and he looked different too. or fusing him with other characters like the amalgam comics (but not with captain america).
here's my idea: after superman's death by doomsday, he comes back to life in a different way. an evil mad scientist puts him back together without any flesh. it is just his skeleton bones and where there were missing parts, the the scientist put in wood twigs there. so he would be half bone/half stick, and this would be his appearance (maybe with a costume or cape). he would have all the abilities he had when he was alive except they were 50% weaker. but this time he wouldn't be affected by kryptonite. he would also have three powers in this form: he could bring people back from the dead, he could turn invisible, and would have death vision. with death vision, he can charge his eyes with immense power that would ultimately kill anyone not too resistant to it. he would also be able to dissassemble his body parts and use them as weapons.
any other ideas would help, but what do you guys think?

It occurred to me, that he might not have to turn on his various visual powers. They might always be on, which would go a long way, in explaining the glasses. He was about 13, and was walking into everything, after which he'd say, "I didn't see that there." The Kents were very concerned about him, his grades were slipping, and he'd nearly walked into traffice a few times. Plus, the kids at school were calling him "Clunk Kent," which is no fun, especially at 13. He was prescribed glasses, and they'd work for a day or so, then he couldn't see again.
Then, one morning, he while looking for something in his room, he realised he'd found it, almost exactly 180 degree behind him. His peripheral vision was nearly wrap-around. He then looked forward, knowing he was in his room, but was instead looking at the barn. Wait, there it was. His room was there, he just had to... focus a bit, and there it was, his room was in focus, and while he could see the barn, it was in the background. Soon, he discovered that he could see tiny things, even microscopic things. Ultimately, he sees everything, all the time, but choosed to focus on certain images. Now the disconcerting truth that he keeps to himself, is that he can see everybody naked, all the time, but again, by focusing on the normal range of vision, he generally ignores that information. For awhile, he found that the glasses helped him gain that focus, and as his other powers manifested, his alleged clumsiness and being a "four-eyes" helped distance him from events and feats that drew too much attention.

One of my friends once had a similar idea. He had the glasses coming from Krypton and they were supposed to help him get used to his vision powers. And they turned into contacts when he was Superman.

I didn't want the glasses to give him the power. They were just something he got, because of the problems he was having adjusting to his vision abilities, and then found he could use them to help him gain control.
It also ties into stories from World War II, where Kent wasn't drafted, because he read a sign on the wall of the building behind the wall with the eye chart on it.

I wasn't saying he should get the power from the glasses either. I was basically sating the same thing you just mentioned.

:) first let me say i know that 75% on superhuman powers can't happen on and level realisticly, but i do like them to have some real science behind them. so having said that i think his "super-hearing" shouldn't be hearing at all and this is 2 reasons why. 1) in many of stories superman can "hear" in/though space which is not possible. you see sound is heard by the molecules viberating and transfuring the sound from molecule to molecule from the source to your ear , there is no air in space. 2) superman can "hear" someone in china from america in "real time". this to is not possible because sound only moves at 761mph. the earths radius is 24,901.5 miles. i think his "hearing" skould be a form of limited telepathy, does that make sense did i explan that well enough what do you think?:)

i personally like it when characters power are redefined with scientific facts i think it makes it more realistic
