Edited link (sorry about that guys) http://comics.ign.com/articles/709/709256p3.html
IGN.com has currently posted Choices 11-25 on their Top 25 X-Men moments list. What do you guys think, and what do you expect/ hope to see in the Top 10.
So far, I think it's a pretty good list, although it is a bit low on Claremont/ Byrne (in my opinion, the best the X-men have ever been) and Morrison (Second only to Byrne/ Claremont) although that will probably change in the Top Ten. Still, I think Wolverine's legendary battle with the Hellfire Club should be higher than #11.
I wouldn't mind, and could make a case for the following (in no real order)....
Magneto beats the "New" X-Men (Uncanny X-Men #111-112)
Collosus Kills Mutant X (Uncanny X-Men #128)
Jean Grey becomes Dark Phoenix (Uncanny X-Men #134)
Dark Phoenix commits suicide (Uncanny X-Men #137)
The Future X-Men fail (Uncanny X-Men #142)
X-Men & Magneto team up (God Loves, Man Kills)
Wolverine VS Shingen (Wolverine mini-series #4)
Cassandra Nova Takes over Professor X's Body (New X-Men #116-117)
Xorn Unmasked (New X-Men #146)
Magneto's Murder/ Suicide (New X-Men #150)

Damn. Reading this list makes me want to get that 40 years of X-Men dvd so I can read all the old CC stuff back in the heyday.

A pretty good list so far. I'm interested to see what makes it into the Top 10. I'm sure the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix stuff will be in the Top 5, as will Days of Future Past. Perhaps Magento ripping out the adamantium of Wolverine too.

Lets see, here are some of my guesses...Jean becomes Phoenix, Jean becomes Dark Phoenix and sacrifices herself, Xavier dies and the AoA ensues, Xavier becomes Onslaught, Wolverine gets the adamantium ripped from his skeleton, Psylocke is transformed into an assassin by the Hand, Magneto "dies" by Fabian Cortez..and that's all I got.

After the whole top 25 x men IGN put up, I wouldnt be surpirised if they put that damn, Xorn is magneto but not the real magneto just some reject pretending to be magneto thats adicted to "kick" story, as their number one pick.

I still say ComixFan's list from a few years ago is more accurate...

If crippled Xavier driving a truck againt a killing machine wanting to face it all by himself with Magneto just around the corner drinking tea doesn't make that list, well, there's no justice in the world.

I wonder if any Madelyne Pryor stuff is going to make it into the Top 5. I feel like the Inferno revelation that she was a clone made by Sinister/ almost sacrificing her own was a pretty big event that should be somewhere on this list. I wonder what the number one event will be. I'm going to go with Dark Phoenix killing herself on the Moon.

That is a pretty good list (though different because the IGN is X-Men only and this has more X-related stuff). There are some stories I wouldn't put on my list and I would change the order a bit, but it's still a pretty good list.

That is a pretty accurate list. It seemed to be really well compiled and a lot of thought was put into it. For a majority of it I liked, but there were a few nitpicks. For one, I'm not sure if I'd place The Cross Time Caper that low, nor X-Factor 87. Both are great stories, but seemed a little too low in my opinion. Other than that, a good list! :)

There's one glaring exception on this list. The scene in the original New Mutants series when Xavier is dancing with Magik and suddently regains his ability to walk. That was one of the best X-moments ever.

I've gotta say I'm disappointed with the Top Five.
http://comics.ign.com/articles/709/709256p5.html
I've read Uncanny X-Men #200-201, and just didn't feel that those were two of the strongest events to ever happen to the X-Men, and the formation of the New X-Men in Giant-Size X-Men while historically significant, wasn't that interesting a scene.
I thought the most memorable part of Days of Future Past (Part 2) was the fact that the Future X-Men were slaughtered, not that Kitty saved the day.
At least they got #1 right, but they left out some of the things that made it cool, such as Scott realizing that Jean was planning her suicide all along.
The big glaring exceptions on the list....
Jean Grey becoming Dark Phoenix.
Xorn revealed as Magneto (which Morrison certainly set up in Xorn's first appearance, and the Xorn spotlight issue.)
The X-Men & Magneto teaming up in God Loves, Man Kills, because it's an earlier example of Magneto's redemption than Issue 200, and because it's the better story.

Xorn as Magneto was pretty poorly done.
I feel that 200 deserves its place...
But come on
Where is first appearance of Corsair?

Its hard to beleive that house of m #7 isn't higher, as it said nothing like it has altered the marvel universe like that. even if it wasn't a good decision.

Did it really? Most x-men are the same...it basically alters fringe characters and is a running d plot.
Plus i dont really see the witchs motivation
god those storylines were awful

So xavier and magneto are fringe charecters. I think that is was a bad move by marvel to run with it, but it still changes not only the pop. of mutants but the vunerability of them.

Well in the last couple of years sort of, they were removed from the main x-books and moved to the criminally underrated Excalibur and the X-world being without them for a pretty good span is unaffected.
Xavier and magneto with both get their powers back. This seems little chance of sticking. Just like Xavier better carry a fold out wheelchair with him wherever he goes.

I'm kinda suprised that the duel between Storm and Cyclops was so low- I'm not sure if I would have made it the #5 top X-Men moment ever, but aside from that, the other 4 seemed pretty good. The Trial of Magneto was another suprise, but as I have not read it, perhaps it really is a top notch story, I dunno.

that is good...plus the whole build up in like 198 where Magneto takes Kitty to a holocaust survivor meeting

You mean the fact the Wanda said "No more mutants" and that didn't happen? I think it's a joke list for it eveb being on there. Big Whoop! Mags and Prof.X don't have powers. Yeah, that'll last
Besides, I never knew "No More Mutants" meant doubling the amount of mutant related books out there

Let me guess:
- Death of Dark Phoenix is #1
- Storm/Cyclops leader battle is in the top #5
- Wolverine's Adamantium removal is in the top #10
- Age of Apocalypse is somewhere in the top #15
- Kitty's Fairy Tale is somewhere around #20
- House of M gets a pity vote somewhere near the end of the list
These lists are usually redundant.

Xorn revealed as Magneto (which Morrison certainly set up in Xorn's first appearance, and the Xorn spotlight issue.)
Are you filing this under temporary insanity?:D In the 80's, and early 90's, even Claremont at his worst, was far better than Morrison at his best on this title. Now, I'm not a Morrison hater, I just didn't like him on the X-Men(except for Emma). His style just isn't suited for the X-Men, I loved his J.L.A., and pretty much all of his D.C. work, but his Marvel work was horrible imo.
And I feel he pulled the Magneto as Xorn out of his ass, cause I read both of the issues you say, and I didn't get even a hint of it being Mags.

I'll add the one big moment I didn't know about when I started this thread.
http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/1576/400/1576_4_058.jpg
I believe it's in this issue.
Basically, Angel meets a kindly gray-haired man in the Savage Land, and is manipulated by him into trying to fight the X-Men. The issue ends with the quiet revelation that the man is actually Magneto.
This was the first issue that featured Magneto unmasked, something that has become a major part of his character, and is why Chris Claremont decided to make the character more sympathetic.
Grant Morrison loved the idea of revealing that a character who's been in front of you all this time is the big villain so much that he used it for his Xorn epic.
In addition to the historical significance, it's also just a cool moment.

Several of the earliest clues.
Morrison promised Wizard that he'd follow "E For Extinction" with the ultimate Magneto story. He did. We just didn't realize it until 146.
In the Annual which introduced Xorn, Emma was afraid that it would take her some time to analyze a key that held information about Xorn. She then understood all the information in an instant, which makes sense if Magneto was manipulating her at the time.
Xorn healed the X-Men by removing the Microsentinels inside them. Magneto has that power.
Finally there's Issue 127, which seems to show what Xorn's thinking, but is later revealed to be a letter to Prof X, all misdirection. The issue reveals that Professor X can't read Xorn's mind, while he's wearing the helmet (indicating it's the same type as MAgneto's, and foreshadowing Magneto using Xorn's helmet in Issue 150.) Finally, Xorn references the mutant dictonary, something which a Chinese man probably wouldn't know much about.
A few more are mentioned in a positive review of Issue 146 by a guy who wasn't afraid to give negative reviews to Morrison's work.
