Not surprisingly, our recent discussion of Star-Lord sent me off to Ebay, which resulted in my acquiring a lot of space-opera comics from the late 70s and early 80s that included a number of Star-Lord titles (a black & white that went missing from my collection, a nice second copy of Marvel Preview #11, a.k.a. "The Good One", and three of the later color Star-Lord comics). The collection also included an issue of Star*Reach featuring Cody Starbuck and, as a bonus, another Chaykin piece I'd never heard of before, "Monark Starstalker" (in Marvel Premiere).

Most of the rest of the collection consists of early issues of DC's Star Hunters, a title I'd never heard of before, despite its having appeared (along with "Monark Starstalker") during my most voracious period of reading of both comic books and sci-fi. (I guess that shows how much of a Marvel zombie I was by that time).

Any fans of this comic? The issues have some nice Rich Buckler covers but I have no idea what to expect otherwise.

The only issue I can remember is where the lead guy (looks like Oliver Queen) has been captured and he wills his guns to fire from across the room. Been meaning to buy up some old issues to read again.

bought it off the stands & read it when it was new, but haven't gone back since, though i think i reacquired the (very short, of course) run probably last year. without checking the gcd (because i'm lazy, & because i must enjoy trying to track down stray wisps of pseudo-knowledge in the fitfully swirling cloudbank known as my memory), i think the strip's premiere in ... dc super stars, was it? ... was pencilled by don newton, a very good thing indeed.

I can remember erratically collecting it (as it just appeared in cheap back-issue boxes at random times over a period of years), and liked it, though remember virtually nothing about it. Was it an early David Michelinie written project?

You guys all have pretty good recall of a book you haven't read in decades! :D

Yes, it's David Michelinie and Don Newton (and Bob Layton).

It premiered in DC Super-Stars, which was also in the batch I got; apparently I have the whole run.

And, yes, the protagonist looks a little like Ollie Queen. No goatee, just a moustache in the premiere; the whole look is also strongly reminiscent of Cockrum's Starjammers. Should be fun.

I know for a lot of folks, the real prize in the collection was probably this one:

I tried to get through the first story (a Fox/Infantino Adam Strange) and found it nigh-unreadable. Some nice art, though (I still find it hard to believe this is the same guy who drew all those horrible comics at Marvel in the 70s).

I think I have/had that issue. At least I remember the cover, I'll have to see if I still have it.

I was always fond of Sta Hunters. Mike Nasser did some work in the series as I recall.

I've got some issues drawn by Buckler.

I'm a Buckler and Nasser fan so I like this book, tho I couldn't tell you what it was about.

I jes' look at the pretty pictures.
