Howdy. This be Unkiedev. I've been regularlin' around here, but never posted a book review, summary thing. here we go:
The Issue starts out with Wolverine stopping a b-lister called "The Crusader" from hijacking a plane full of money to fund his fundamentalist, religious terror campaign. How does Wolvie stop it? By slicing out one of the Crusaders eyeballs and crashing the plane into a corn field! KABLAMMO!! That's how you start a comic book, baby!
Wolvie survives the plane crash, gets up, borrows a rescue worker's jacket and heads out to a honkey-tonk for a quick brew and a little tet'a'tet with the waitress. He recieves a top Avengers summons and looks up at the T.V. to see the Stamford catastrophy. This is how Wolvie finds out out about the New Warriors.
We cut to Latveria for two pages where men in shadows talk about Nito. One guy in shadows (G.I.S.) Calls the other guy "My Liege." the other G.I.S. calls the first guy "Hunter."
Cut to Stamford. We See the clean up effort from Civil War #1. Wolvie muses about blame, Rachael pukes off panel.
Cut to Port Washington where a wife tells her husband paul they have to get on a plane after a cryptic phone call. Mysterious.
Next we see Wolvie get kicked out of a sushi bar due to Anti-Hero bigotry. Usually this is Anti-Mutant, though Wolvie jokes he hope's it's not because he's Canadian. Oh, that Wolvie!
Next we're in Avengers Tower reliving the meeting scene from Civil War #1. Afterwards Wolvie and Luke Cage have a disagreement about the Sentinels in front of the X-Mansion. Wolvie says registration makes the American Government like the Nazi's and compares the Sentinels to burning crosses on your lawn. This gives Luke pause for thought. Wolvie has decided to hunt down Nitro, super-villian responcible for Stamford. Iron Man urges him not too.
Back at the X-Mansion Wolvie, Scott and Emma fight over Wolvie hunting down Nitro. Wolvie essentially tells Scott he's whipped and storms off, no pun intended.
Cut to Stamford. Wolvie has Nitro's scent and is heading off. Wolvie smirks that this will be the first time as an Avengers he's gone to Avenge anything..and..SCENE!
GREAT STUFF!! Humberto Ramos is a treat for the eyes, and I'm happy to see him on such a prominent Marvel title! I love how Wolvie touches in on each of his teams before going off on such a noble/dangerous duty that only Wolvie could do.
This is the Second issue of Wolverine I've ever bought, but after this one I'll be getting it a bunch more! My favorite book of the week!
HIGHLIGHT: Wolvie, after being blown up in a plane and called in to the Avengers complains that it feels like he's in 10 places at once. Heh, GOOD One, Wolvie!

Sounds like a cool issue, but i have a feeling it won't be on par with last months issue... Yet i'll still be buying it tomorrow.

Logan making a joke about his overexposure?! Priceless.
Haven't been reading the series in awhile so I may pick this one up.

I do recommend getting this into your sticky paws. It was fast and fun.
Say, Madrox84, did last month's have anything to do with this "Crusader" guy and his plane-napping, or was this just the lead in for the new story?

That was my highlight as well. Maybe they'll tone the overexposure down a bit.

I'm surprised by how good this issue was. Maybe I shouldn't be, but month after month of Daniey Way has a way of lowering one's enthusiasm.
What I liked:
The duality of Wolverine as an X-Man/Avenger is focused on.
"This is gonna be a damn shame. I love corn."
"Don't tell me: you're a doctor. What kind?"
"Surgeon."
I'm intrigued as to do the doings in Doomstadt.
The continuity with Civil War #1.
The cliched "idiot mob attacks super hero" scene is squashed because the idiots realize they'll be killed. :D
The Sentinel/burning cross analogy.
Wolverine telling off Scott and Emma.
"That's way outta line, mister."
"Well, you should be used to that from me by now."
Didn't care for:
The art.
Since when is Nitro so tough that it's assumed Wolverine can't take him?
But all in all, very nice.

Didn't like the art much at all, especially after seeing the same scenes only with McNiven drawing instead. Other than that the issue was a good un.

I was massively surprised by how much I loved the issue. I was fully expecting huge continuity glitches concerning where Wolverine is when events in other comics happen, but to see scenes from Civil War #1 play out here, from Wolverine's perspective was really cool. Whoever this Guggenheim guy is, he totally gets inside Wolverine's head.
Most surprising part: I didn't hate the art. For whatever reason, Ramos' art totally works for this story. Go figure.

You know this is something I've always wondered about when it came to the Avengers name. Do they ever "avenge" anything?

No, but they pull out those catchphrases whenever the stakes get real big.
"It's time we lived up to our names!"
"Avengers, lets avenge them!"
"If they're hurt, I'll show you what being an Avenger means!"
And so on. :)

Since he killed Captain Marvel, most of the New Warriors, and half'a ****in' town! Seriously, Nitro is hardcore badass now.
And yeah, it was great for all the reasons you said and more. The bit where he pops his claws for the mob is a bit eyeroll enducing, but other than that, it was REALLY good.
Wait...Wolverine, good? Is Mark Millar writing? Claremont in the 80's? No? Then what the hell is going on?:D

Coolest one ever, though?
Ant-Man: "What are you doing?"
Jack of Hearts: "I'm an Avenger. So I'm avenging."

He accidentally killed Marvel, at best. ;)
Seriously though, I don't know him all that well. His only power is that he explodes, right? If you can live through one of his explosions (which, as demonstrated this issue, Wolvie most likely could), wouldn't he be rather easy to kill? I think Spider-Man and Daredevil have both taken Nitro out in the past.

Maybe Guggenheim is really Larry Hama?
Late 80s/early 90s Hama, that is. Before he was killed and replaced by his less-talented twin.

I didn't think of that...that was some nice foreshadowing...
However, it looks like Nitro has gotten something of an upgrade of late, so he might be a little much to handle.

I got the vibe that Logan was portrayed as a man who thinks that killing someone is the solution for everything. That I didn't like.
Apart from that I liked the issue.
But the art. Well the art... the art got me friggin drooling. Humberto Ramos was just born to draw Wolverine. Oh man. That looked so damn awesome what he did. Forget Crimson, forget Out There, even forget DV8 - Wolverine is his best work to date. YAY! Hopefully he stays a while. :)

This reminds me of Twisted Toyfare Theatre from a couple issues ago. Funny funny stuff.

Good review Dev!
Question- When Wolvering gets confronted by a mob (at a sushi bar??), is he in costume? Or is his appearance as Logan obvious enough for him to be recognized as who he is?

Thanks, Gaveedra.
That's the weird thing...his appearance is in his Wolverine civies, and there are people muttering behind him about heroes. If you read New Avengers you know that Wolverine didn't even go downstairs for the initial press conferance, prefering to stay out of the lime light.
Now the Mob waiting for him outside the bar was clearly the bar/kitchen staff, and the owner does come out and warn Wolverine he has to leave or there will be trouble. Wolvie clearly has a running tab at this place is knows the staff, but how did everybody else still know who he was? It's not like Wolverine is the most known guy on the planet.

After making multiple attacks on the White House?

Good point, Stonegold, but do regular Human people know who he is? I'm not sure I have the answer, but I feel more people in the MU are likely to recognize the Vision then Wolverine. He's a major power behind the scenes, but doesn't get much public exposure, press wise.
Maybe I'm wrong. I always liked the angle that most people think the X-men are a mutant terrorist group. To see all the X-men just cleaning up at Stamford with the Avengers and the FF seemed a bit...odd.

After making multiple attacks on the White House?
Well, through those attacks he was in his yellow cstume.
I guess even as a civilian he's pretty remarkable looking. And if he's a regular at this sushi bar.. maybe once he skewered his sahsimi on a claw when he dropped his chopsticks, and people got to talking.

I enjoyed this issue alot, and the art seems like it is just right for a comic like Wolverine. The best parts for me was when he got paged and both his Avenger and X-men logo goes off. I also like the way that Ramos retold that Civil War scene.

This issue was really good. I got off after the crappy first issue of Origins and Endings. I shouldn't have bought that one but the cover was great by Joe Q. Anyway I loved the writing in this, it's been a while since I've gotten somekind of emotion from a Wolverine comic and this was good. The art was decent too.

The other guy's name wasn't Hunter, he was referring to Nitro's last name. As in, it was ironic, because he was about to be hunted.

Loved this issue.
Ramos' art seems a bit too cartoony at first, but as the story gets grittier, so does the art. By the end, when Wolverine is determined to track Nitro, both he and Nitro look scary as hell.
The writing was great, too. We get eyeball-popping (literally) action, and we get to see Wolverine using his tracking abilities in a logically-explained way.
Ready for the next one.
