Newarama:We’ve asked this question a few times in the past and you’ve asked that we hold off, but for a pretty good reason. We understand you’re ready to talk about that reason this week?

Joe Quesada: Yeah, I saw folks here getting upset about it, that I was ducking for cover and as you guys know full well, I do my best to take on all comers here on Joe Fridays, I think that’s what makes it fun.

But, there are times when I need to hold off on an answer for a bit because there’s one coming, it just has to be in good time. So, today I can report that we will be adjusting the price of our Canadian books to be more in line with the strengthening Canadian dollar.

Great news for us Canadian collectors!

It's about time!!!!!!!!! :D

Here's hoping for a $3.50 CDN price point.

Are you being charged the CAD price on the book? You poor thing! I only frequent stores that sell at US cover price or peg the price to the current exchange rate. And the store I have my pull list on already charged US cover + 15%, even prior to the dollars rise.

My son you must think like a business man. Stand up for your rights!

Given the number of stores I've seen that sell books at either US-cover or the actual exchange rate, so I wonder if those that do sell at the Canadian cover price aren't pocketing a bit of extra profit.

At any rate, both the stores I shop at here in Toronto sell for considerably less than the Canadian cover price; I don't know why I'd bother shopping at one that didn't.

I've asked and asked about adjustments to the CDN price... but there are only 3 stores in my city (Regina) and they ALL charge CDN. I am at the one that gives me the biggest discount based on the number of titles I get though (20% while the others only offered 15%)

Will this give Marvel another excuse to raise comic prices for us United States fans?

Is that even legal?

Until governments implement price controls on comic books (which is probably very low on anybody's list of priorities at the national level, even in Canada), yes, it is legal for comic books to be sold for higher than cover price. In fact, this is common practice for older comic books. Were you expecting to buy Amazing Fantasy #15 for twelve cents?

Of course. The cover price is effectively a "suggested retail price," and retailers are free to charge whatever they like for a book, whether that's more or less than the cover price. (The only exception being, generally, that if you're charging something other than the cover price, it has to be clearly identified)

For example, think of all the variant covers that get sold for $20 or $30, even though the cover price is still just $2.99.

I doubt it,if anything i think the price might go up.

I don't think so. The price is based on your dollar. The problem was they were basing the exchgange on the rates from a couple of YEARS ago... despite the dollars being almost equal now.

In Toronto, Silver Snail sells at US cover for new issues. However the Beguiling sells at the exchange rate.

Thanks.:)

Dammit, had I known that I would have forced my group to spend more time there last time we were in Toronto but they rushed me out wanting to get to Kikiwai before it closed. *weeps*
