...forgive me if this sounds totally dumb, but...is Alex Luthor technically dead? He's made of anti-matter, so could that bend the rules a little? I'm just wondering that they may have made it looked like Joker killed him, but then do some cheap ploy to bring him back in the future. Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I'm curious as to how being made up of anti-matter affects his mortality on the New Earth.

He's probably not dead. I'm sure that if the editors want him to come back, they'll figure out a way to pull it off.

Alex is actually made of both positive and anti-matter.

It'd be pretty easy to bring him back, considering he pumped a bunch of himself into Superboy-Prime. Alex Luthor in Superboy-Prime's body? Now that's scary.
I hope DC does bring him back sooner or later. Alex became one of my favourite bad guys with one line: "I'm like my father. A hero in a world of villains."

Alex is actually made of both positive and anti-matter.
That sounds difficult.

I think Johns & Co kind of just glossed over the whole "made of anti-matter" concept re: Alex Luthor in general. During IC #7, Alex makes some mention of "running out of power" and seems to have trouble generating energy bursts (which is when he gets jumped by Batman and then can't defend himself), which you'd think wouldn't be an issue for someone "made of anti-matter," or a combo of matter or anti-matter, or whatever the case is. Then after Joker kills Alex, Original Recipe Lex passes off Alex as his "crazed imposter" and a postmortem exam reveals Alex to be a normal human (with the same DNA as Lex) as opposed to a matter/anti-matter hybrid. I think Johns & Co just ignored the anti-matter concept since it didn't fit in well with their IC finale plans for Alex. Anyway, his story's essentially done and he can stay dead since, imo, with the multiverse back there's already no shortage of Superman/Batman/Luthor/etc dopplegangers running around without resorting to the hackneyed resurrection of yet another "alternate version" of an established character.

If I were a writer at DC and had a good story with which to do it (as well as editorial approval, of course) I wouldn't hesitate to bring him back. I'm sure there's more than one writer at DC with that same mindset.
That said, I kind of like the 'Alex in SBP's body' tossed out there by Apathy Boy. That's the kind of fail-safe plan/dickery I would expect from a Luthor.

Well since there is a new Earth-3, wouldn't there be a new Alex Luthor?
