Any thoughts on who he is?

I keep hearing a theory all over the place that he is Booster Gold. I hope it is true.

Its said that he and booster will go toe to toe in 52.... also heard that hes supposed to be an individual who was a hero before but didnt have powers, but now does... everyone seems to think of him as being E2 superman or superboy... both RIP

Besides the bat family and the green arrow family who else is considered a hero with no super powers?

Assuming he's a Metropolis native (not that there's any reason to assume that), it could be Jose Delgado, Gangbuster.
Or maybe Guardian. Jim Harper, not the Morrison one. I think he's dead, but he's a clone anyway, so that's no obstacle.
Alpha Centurion had powers already, didn't he?
Good lord, they couldn't have dug up Shadowdragon, could they?

I heard one rumor that it could be Steel after finally getting meta powers. That it could tie into one of the hints about 52 that was released.
Would be interesting if that was true though.

Just to be different I'm going to say Superboy-Prime.
I'm going to go with Mon-El.

I'm going to say it is Ted Kord. Villains were brought back to life once New Earth was created so why can't heroes? He has some kind of connection with Booster Gold and this topic has stated that it is someone without powers. Besides Superboy's magical, timeline changing punches, the creation of a new earth would be the ONLY way to bring Ted Kord back.

Theres also been the theory thats its actually "our" booster gold, "our" michael carter, and that the booster running around in 52#1 is another booster... all caused by Alex Luthor's remerging of this "new earth" ... heck he didnt even know that Clark was Superman, let alone how everything seems to be completely different then his whole prominent role he played in Infinite Crisis, a complete 180 to his old roots... he doesnt even appear to shed a tear for TEd... let alone let it affect him.... Perhaps it explains the picture of 52#15 (i believe), the cover with Booster's goggles and blood... perhaps this other booster bites the dust, and Supernova (actually our booster comes out of the shadows to step into the light and show him as a true hero and find his killers.?

It's Steel's niece.

I'll be a little peeved if it's not Earth-2 Superman.

So did Dallas Riordan when she disguised herself as Citizen V during the Busiek Thunderbolts run. Its all padding, even Captain America figured that one out when Steve slugged her.

As you can see in the picture, its a male physique, so the idea that its a female is out.

After seeing that picture, I am supremely confident that's Power Girl post-breast reduction.
Seriously, though, I hope it's Steel. Ol' JHI could use both some powers, and creative invigoration. I'm just afraid he might not make it out of 52...

As DubipR and I both said, it wouldn't be the first time in comics that a female character appeared wearing a costume that made them look very male.
I don't think that Supernova actually is a woman, but that one look at the costume really isn't proof.

But he is wearing a ring...much like the legion flight ring that Booster Gold used to wear.
Oh, maybe he's a Booster Gold fan? (there has to be one in the DCU, right? :) )
It would be fun if the now-famous Booster Gold has a fan who tries to be a superhero just like him... and then beats him up for some reason.

I think the Earth-2 Superman is a little bigger than Supernova.

Where are you seeing a ring? I don't see one on that cover.

I know, I know... I'm wrestling with the idea myself. :p
And I don't see the ring either. Do you mean on his left hand (visually, our right)?

Look at his right hand. There is a large dot, like something shining, on his right hand (our left).

You sure that's not the gap between his thumb and the rest of his fingers?

I totally agree. He's got almost the same design, with the little arrow on his head, and the piping on the cape.
But what about that sunburst on his chest? That's not very tornado-like. Didn't T.O.Morrow just say something about a robot called "Red Inferno" who was the only brother of Red Tornado to also gain an artificial soul?
The name Supernova sounds like a lot like the name Red Inferno quite a bit, too.

(A) Superman has donned a similar costume and name once before...

Yeah, I still think it looks like Red Tornado, but only in a squinty-eyed sort of way. That Supernova costume you posted is definately the inspiration for the new one. Colors are different though, but that's a good thing.

Something tells me that Supernova is the leader of the Superboy cult.

I'd have to say it looks like the previously mentioned Red Inferno. Though why the name change? Or does that go along with gaining a soul? Of course that is if it is NOT a previous hero without powers...
Its not Steel because we know what steel is going to look like later on.

I think it's Booster. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's Red Tornado. Anybody else would be a total shocker.

Booster Gold. All of his abilities are technology-based.

Here is a better picture of Supernova (http://www.comicboards.com/dcb/attachments/060530224642/Supernova%2052.jpg).
And Mark Waid's brief comments with the picture cast some doubt on the 'Booster is Supernova' theory.

The link didn't work, so here's the image.
http://www.comicboards.com/dcb/attachments/060530224642/Supernova%2052.jpg
"There are two people on the case as far as learning Supernova's identity: Booster Gold and Clark Kent" says 52 writer Mark Waid. "Nobody knows who he is, but he seems to have it out for Booster for one reason or another, and vice versa."

My guess is that it is Dr. Light possing as a hero to get his revenge on them. He get's in close, pow, "gee I don't know what happened I just got here". Plus with his super nova comment in Villians United Special. After this week's 52 others opinions may sway towards John Henry Irons but I don't think so. Of course I could be wrong which is also fine.
