View Full Version : Justice League Unlimited: How would you rate this show?
With the end of the series, I would like to know how you would rate this show. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being really bad, pitiful, etc. and 10 being really good, great, etc., what score do you think this show deserves and why?
I would give this show an 8. I really like the show and the characters used. However, despite the diverse line-up, many of the same characters were used over and over again. Characters like Green Arrow, The Question, The Huntress, and Black canary were used way to many times. Also, the ending could have been a little better. What I mean is, I think 3 episodes should have been used to conclude the series. Two episodes were not enough. Also, Darkseid's new powers weren't really played up that well. His army was portrayed as very weak to me. He had thousands of soldiers and none of them could gain one victory against a hero or a villian. I also didn't like how none of Darkseid's major lackey's (i.e. Kalibak, the Female Furies, Granny Goodness, etc.) were even seen in this episode. And I think Doomsday should have made a return. Having him trapped in the Phantom Zone as his end just wasn't a proper ending for the creature. But, I did like the show overall. I did like the fact that there was more action i nthese shows, aswell as having the villians unite together like the heroes did. I also thought the whole Cadmus saga was pretty good. But, I didn't like how that ended either. So, thats why to me, this show recieves an 8. It will be missed.

The only thing I don't like about the series is that it's ending, I give it a 9. I agree with what you say about the over use of the same characters and the unsuse of certain characters, but I think that the genius writing and dialogue made up for it.

I excuse it because they had to wrap it up to end the show. I'm sure plenty of plot threads were left hanging as they likely planned on coming back to them.
I DID think we needed to go back to JL and have a 2 hour ending movie if this was supposed to end the show. I thought it felt a little rushed...and while amazingly cool, not enough time to really sweat it out, as it was slam bang on to another scene. I never got the feeling the day was lost like when Darkseid attacked Metropolis the first time...or the Thanagarians had invaded.
And the only way the story could fit in the time alloted was to have none of Darksied's heavy hitters show up.
Still give JLU an 8...and the Timmverse a 9+ with slight drop because I actually liked the old school Batman TAS type animation...
And I got an ABSOLUTE kick with how the heroes divvied themselves up at the very end. With the Seven Soldiers, JLI, JL Detroit, JSA, and finally the JLA...with the big 3 bringing up the rear.

i'd give it a 9. the end left a lot of loose ends like when did j'onn get married.
but the last ep did give even more pimp points to flash. he got a kiss from the hottest villain on the damn show.

The finale itself loses points from me for the deus ex machina ending.
As for the series, I give it a 10. And it will be a long time before they make another superhero show that's as good as JLU has been.
it is over. not just the seaon. BUT the entire show is over?
that isnt fair, i am sad inside now

When the only bad thing I really have to say about a show is that it shouldn't have ended, I'd say that's a solid 9.
The problem with ending a show like this is that the comics themselves are virtually endless. Comic fans are always going to be left wanting more.

for me, bats and flash stole the show.
this was by far the best verison of batman i've seen. cool, calculating and cunning. not much of a dick but still has dickish tendacies.
flash was thes shit as well. fastest pimp alive. nuff said.

I thought the ending fits seeing how Lex was so hung up on obtaining godhood.

Best American animated series out there, as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully, its example will be followed.

While I problems with individual episodes along the way, I think that this is probably one of the single best cartoon series ever.

In a perfect universe, the Timm/DC-verse, The Tick, Exosquad, and Gargoyles would be the examples followed by American cartoon creators.
Where's Alex Luthor when you need him?
As for the main topic of conversation, I give the series an 8.5. I love how the show had a huge cast but I agree that they needed to flesh out more guys like Fire, Ice, Mister Terrific, Steel (Hank Heywood), Vibe, Crimson Fox, Blue Devil, Elongated Man, Hourman, Crimson Avenger, Dr. Midnite, and Gypsy.
The last episode did feel really rushed. They should have done a mini-movie ala Savage Time and Starcrossed. Then maybe we could have appearances by characters like Kalibak, Vermin Vundabarr, Kanto, Steppenwolf, Granny Goodness, Highfather, Fastbak, more scenes with Lightray (Other than just him getting blasted.), the Forever People, Forager, and Orion.
The love end sequence. Good way to go out.

I give it 5 stars for the Cadmus arc, alone. That was great television.

Though I bet the majority of the viewers were over the age of 18, which is outside the range of CN's target audience outside of adult swim.

Add Samurai Jack to that list, and you've got yourself a pantheon.

There was also the group consisting of Steve Ditko-created characters: The Question, The Creeper, Hawk & Dove, and Captain Atom.

8.5 Excellent series, gone too soon.
CDB has given me a will and reason to watch the show again...I give it a 9.5 on the scale.
I'm glad that I've inspried. I give this piece of heaven that is gone: 9.9/10. The missing 1% is typical marginal error. This series is what American cartoons should follow..But noooooo:rolleyes: we want to go overseas and import bullsh** animes like Evangelion, Inyusha, and Pokemon.

I'm much the same. This show is possibly the best cartoon ever created.
Has anybody else seen Timm's Kirby'ish designs for the Marvel Universe characters?

Nitpick, didn't Steppenwolf get killed off in Twilight? I thought he was leading the attack on New Genesis that went horribly wrong.
I hope that one day they'll release a director's cut of the last episodes (or the last season) showing off all the plots they didn't get to do thanks to time constraints, as well as an extended fight against the Apokoliptan forces.

a really enjoyed this series a great deal, and i'd give it an overall ranking of 8-8.5 as certain episodes were better than others.
i agree that the finale did feel very rushed but it had one of the better Sueprman moments with his "living in a world made of cardboard" speech and one of my favourite moments of the whole series with Lex's "Sorry I'm late, I had to stope and get my power suit" line.

I agree with whoever said the Cadmus arc was one of the best seasons of television EVER. Isn't it sad that JLU did more in half hour eps than another DC-based show like Smallville could hope to in a whole season's worth of hourlong eps?
I never really ejaculated over this series the way others did. I'd give it a 6ish. I think the Batman and Superman animated series that came before it were better.
I never really ejaculated over this series the way others did.
And for the folks who have to clean up around here, they want you to know that they appreciate that.
As for me, I would have to give it a solid 8.
It wasn't always perfect, but it was always at least fun.

As endings, Destroyer gets an 8, and Epilogue gets a 9.

I have to strongly disagree that Canary, Huntress, Arrow, Supergirl, Question, and some others were featured too much.
What's the point of introducing a good character and then never featuring him/her again? People like Supergirl and Arrow had their own continuous stroy arcs throughout the series...you can't tell me relegating them to just one episode would have made for better TV.
Seeing as many DC heroes as I can is nice and all...but things get to a point where I want to be able to FOLLOW the stories of the different characters from episode to episode because I care about them. Seeing Huntress once then never again would be a big disspointment for me.
Which is why I kind of prefer JL over JLU in some ways. I liked that I got to watch seven people always interacting and growing. Having a stable cast let me get attached to them. How am I supposed to be as attached to people like Fire or Booster Gold who show up once and never continue their story afterwards? Now when something happens to Black Canary or Green Lantern...I have something to really care about.

I guess an 8. It was a good anthology show and the overall arcs were great. Plus it was cool see minor heros like Mister Miracle, Green Arrow and Booster Gold share the spotlight. I kind of wish we had more of the original seven together and we had another season to develop more of the League. It was also a minor miracle they could do the show with all liscensing issues and limited budget.
If there was a fourth season the League split into two and Ra's Al Ghul that would have been neat.
Alive! is easily the best episode. The Legion of Doom free for all. How can you top that?

Yeah, that was JLU's one big flaw, IMO. The story was just too big to be told in 30-minute increments. Imagine if they had managed to get a full hour for each episode.
