you know, I have never been this excited about a comic event since the 90s.

Just something to share with you. I started comics very lightly reading Spidey and Avengers. Nothing else. Through random purchases of X-Men and New Mutants and Claremont issues from here and there and finally a superb event in the X-Tiction Agenda, I became a very serious X-Men fan. Those stories excited me like none other had. For close to 15 years, nothing else came close. Things might have gone downhill a little latter towards the end of the 90s but the impact of those early stories were still with me. It was always X-Men with a little Avengers after the Busiek era. In other words I am a Marvel guy.

I have been a little curious about DC now and then, during the Return of Superman era and the TV shows. I have bought several titles now and then and leanred many things about DC but nothing made me serious about the titles. Not Zero Hour, not Morrison's JLA, not the current Teen Titans, not Jim Lee's Batman or Jim Lee's Superman and not even Kingdom Come. The only DC title I buy these days is Nightwing who is the only character I like on par with a Marvel creation.

All that changed last weekend. On a chance visit to the comics store, I lucked out and managed to get all 7 issues of IC. The same excitement that overwelmed me during the original Claremont X-Men days came to me. Finally, an event that made me care about the characters I have read about for more than a decade. Seeing Superboy's fate made me feel nostalgic for the Return of Superman days, seeing the big 3 come back together made me cheer and seeing the promise of OYL is giving me goosebumps. I am now adding the new JLA and both Superman titles to my pull list. I would add more, but that would mess up my budget seriously so I am going to rely on this board to know which TPBKs to pick up later.

I am not saying that this mini was better than COIE. I have the TPBK for that, but for someone that never followed the multiverse era, the story did not have so much impact for me. Those were the heroes that I never knew. Only read about. Granted, I never was much of a DC reader post COIE, but working in a comics store, I have had a good number of exposure to the DC universe. Reading IC, I was suprised at how much I knew about DC post COEI. Overall, it was quite a well written storyline. I don't think it was necessary but it was a very good jumping on point for people like me who knew a little about DC.

Well done to Johns and all the rest involved. And those covers, wow. I am not someone who goes for art over writing, but they rocked. But then again, I am now picking up more titles.

It's good to see someone enjoying this event.

DC worked very hard to get us all excited about IC and, for the first three or four issues, it was working for me. After that, I think seven months worth of anticipation started to create expectations for me that DC was unable or unwilling to meet. To have read all seven issues in one sitting (without having months and months to hope and fantasize) while the hype was still strong sounds ideal to me. You were able to approach it with enthusiasm and accept it for what it was, never getting the opportunity to see it in terms of what it wasn't. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
