I've got a question for anyone who's seen this...I just watched a netflix copy of it but it isn't clear whether it's the extended, and I understand darker, version or if it was the original. Can someone in the know give a detailed rundown of the differences between both versions? Thanks.

The netflix disc is censored.

There are A LOT of small differences with the PG-13 version, but the most glaring one is Joker's death. In the netflix one, he slipped and got electrocuted. In the PG-13 version, Robin shot him in the chest.

Several small differences that I remember off the top of my head:

- When Joker kills Bonk, in the PG-13 version he shoots him on-screen, and later on makes a quite disturbing joke about "throwing out the trash" while pointing to Bonk's grinning corpse.
- When Terry arrives at the Batcave and finds Bruce unconscious, the "Ha ha ha" are painted with blood.
- When Batgirl interrogates people on the street, in the kiddie version she talks to a well dressed couple. In the PG-13 one, it's two hookers.
- Old Tim Drake says "I can still hear the gunshot." instead of "I can still hear his screams."
- In the PG-13 version, Barbara Gordon reveals to terry that they buried Joker's body beneath Arkham secretly.

There's also these key differences:

-there's blood in the PG-13 version. Both, Batman (Bruce) and the Joker bleed during their final battle.
-Speaking of the final battle, some things are cut from it quite literally. For example, in the uncut version Batman throws the knife he cut his ropes at the Joker. Later on in the fight the Joker slices and stabs Batman with his own knife, thus explaining his limp. In the cut version, the knife is removed, there's no scene of Batman throwing anything and the Joker is just smacking Batman.
-In the uncut version Tim shoots the Joker, killing him. In the cut version the Joker slips and kills himself via electrocution.
-The fight in the beginning of the movie between Batman and the Jokerz is longer and the moves are more vicious such as the Dee Dee's tasering Terry.
-The HA! HA! HA! spray painting when Terry finds Bruce in the Batcave are changed from red (uncut) to green in the cut version. It's not blood but the execs thought it was thus telling the people behind the movie to change the colors.
-The uncut version shows the Joker sadistically electrocuting Robin.
-besides the Jokerz dumping Bonk's body, the Joker asks all his remaining members if they're with them before coming to Bonk and.. "Bonk? Oh that's right.. DEAD."

And of course, my favorite change...

Changing the word "putzes" to "yutzes".

Because it was a really slow day and the censors just had nothing better to do.

the most noticeable difference is that the joker tortures the living shit out of tim drake and its actually an awesome scene.

Is the uncensored version still availiable?

It should be. They (eventually) gave it as wide a release as the initial censored version.

Another difference is there were a lot of white flashes I remember from the cut version whenever Terry hit someone. And there was a 360 rotating camera effect of Terry beating up all the Jokerz that got cut out of the edited version.

A couple of more cuts

-At one point Joker calls Bruce "Bat-Fart". This gets changed to "Bat-Kook".
-While describing his torture and brainwashing of Tim Drake, Joker says "And after all the drugs and shocks took effect...". This gets changed to "All to soon.."
-The fat clown aims his gun at Terry and says "I don't know why the boss wants us to waste a dreg like you, but hey, as long as its fun."
-One the of the buildings seen getting hit by the satellite's laser beam is occupied. The censored version knocks out all the lights so the building looks empty.
-In the begining, Bruce's batarang beheads a Two-Face dummy.
-When the Jokerz ambush Jordan Price on the Wayne company yacht there is a short scene where Price enters a darken room expected to find a woman named Amy. The lights turn and reveal Dee Dee instead.
-Price says the Jokerz were supposed to kill Wayne. In the censored version, he says "iced".
-Barbara Gordon tells Terry that Leslie Thompkins helped Tim regain his sanity. In the censored version, she says Thompkins "helped Tim back to us."

Interesting note regarding the change in the way Joker dies. Even though the censored version changes his death to accidental electrocution, There's a shot where we see Tim slump to his knees and crying and the gun can be seen on the floor next to him.

I totally never realized that they digitally added seatbelts. And in the case of the Batmobile, a SEAT for the belts to attach to.

Sometimes people are so stupid it just makes me want to be a cat, I swear to God.

Five reasons why I hate batman beyond...

1. Its deppresing that everything has gone wrong for bruce and everyone else.

2. The use of modern technology means that batman is now almost super powered and one of the most enjoyable things about batman was that he was a ordinary guy.

3. The new guy who plays batman (I dont know his name) is a cheasy young guy who just annoys me.

4. I doubt we`ll be that advanced this close in the future.

5. Hes got crap villans.

However everyones entitled to their opinion even if mines better.

I have another stupid question. How can I tell the differenced between the edited and uncut versions? Do I have to look for "Return of the Joker Unrated" on the box or something.

Yep, the uncut version has a black border across the cover and says "The Original, Uncut Version" across the top.

Sorta but Bruce becomes happier since he was able to pass the legacy to Terry.

Terry McGuiness was pretty formidable in hand to hand and wrestled pretty well. In fact he held his own quite well when he teamed up with a younger Bruce in that disturbing Ra's Al Ghul story and he learns not to depend so much on the suit.

5. Hes got crap villans.
Nah I thought he had his own unique yet great villains with Mr. Freeze being the surprise holdover. Blight, Inque, Shriek, Curaré, Royal Flush Gang were all good villains.
