Ahoy,
I've been following the boards alot lately in regards to X3 and Superman returns, recently a review of X3 was posted at AICN (the 3rd i believe) and fan boys started going at it in the talk back.....

"Every theatre I have been in Pirates,X3, and even the Break Up get better audience reactions than Superman."

"When I saw MI3 the first trailer was the Break Up and the audience was dead silent, like scary silent. That movie doesn't look funny at all. Then X3 where at the end people were laughing basically I don't know why but they were. The last trailer was Superman Returns and people went apeshit screaming an applauding so I don't know about that."

"Well I've seen the trailer for superman 3 times in the theaters and there was no reaction to it. X3 got some reaction witj talking afterwards and clapping"

So heres my question for you...

Do people ACTUALLY applaud? shout? during trailers? I live in Canada and have seen one movie a week in theaters (a big one) for close to 4 or 5 years now and I have NEVER wittnessed anyone shouting at the screen during trailers, infact, not even during the entire movie.

Is this a common site in American theaters? or is this just a bunch of fanboys trying to stand out by talking big?

What have your experiences been like?

When I went to see MI:3, neither the X3 trailer or the Superman trailer got any reaction.

I don't know what the reaction to the trailer is supposed to prove anyway.

I agree completley, there arguments mean nothing, im just more interested in the idea of people shouting or applauing, it's so unheard of here!

The only reaction I've ever seen is subdued talking and laughing (if it's a comedy trailer). Stuff like "Hey, that looks good," or "Meh," you get the idea. I don't think I've ever seen people cheer/boo/shout after or during movie trailers.

I've seen it happen, with the trailer for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace getting the biggest audience reaction that I've seen (and we all know how that turned out...)

From my experience, people tend to shout or whoop on Friday and Saturday nights, when the crowds are large and already excitable. (I remember the Batman Begins trailer getting a lot of "Oh no, not another one!" groans.) It doesn't happen too often, though.

The only places I've been to where the audience makes noisey reactions is music concerts, sports events, and plays. Every movie I've seen in a theater is as quiet as a lecture.

I've seen it done many times...it really depends on where you are and what kind of people go to the theaters. It also really depends on the movie, too.

Same here, though usually just for action, horror or comedies. Typically though a trailer doesnt' get much more than a murmuring as it ends, though you can usually tell whether it's mostly postive or negative.

I shouted "yeah Biker Boyz 2!" just as the trailer for Torque ended, got a nice laugh out of that. Oh and "Wasn't this called Varsity Blues?" for Friday Night Lights.

I've seen people "woo hoo" and "oh yeah" during trailers. I've even heard a couple "oh crap"s too.
