The Justice League Unlimited comic is great. John Stewart & Vixen are the best in their cartoon incarnations. And I love Timm's shaggy-haired Ollie & Dinah. Did you know Vixen's grandfather was a middle-weight champ? What a difference losing that awful She-Wolverine haircut makes! Meow. Anybody else think it woulda been cool if Vixen had been the OYL Catwoman? Too Halle Berry, I guess.

Anywho, this is consistently a great, great book when its written & drawn by Adam Beechen & Carlo Barberi. The fill-ins have been the standard kiddie cartoon adaption stuff, but these two guys are real knockout talents and have truely been continuing the high standards set by the TV show.

They have a rare opportunity here, the show is over. And, by extention, the entirety of the Timm-verse that spans Batman & Superman the Animated Series to Batman Beyond (where Darwyn Cooke made a name for himself) and JLU itself. I know there's a lot of fans of this particular superhero universe, I think this book could keep it going for quite some time.

The latest issue shows that there's still a lot of unresolved issues between all these characters that can still be used to tell a damn fun story. I mean, a couple months back they did a JLU vs. Uncle Sam & The Freedom Fighters throwdown that was just awesome with a capital Aw. And don't get me started on that beautiful Superman meet's Space Cabbie, Superman's #1 Fan.

Seriously, this book is the nuts. It's not grim or gloomy or ladden with political subtext or anything, but it is very fun.

I really enjoy this series.

Heck, I think it's even better than the most recent DCU JLA series and has been for some time ;).

Since JLU has ended I have nowhere else to turn to to get my JLU fix. I know the book has characters that didn't appear on the show like Blue Beetle. How well does the comic measure up compared to the show? Does it follow the show's continuity? Are the issues collected in trades?

Personally, I think the JLU comic is one of the best superhero books DC is making right now. The writing is excellent and the art is a pretty good match for the show. The stories sometimes follow pretty close to what the show has been doing. This month's issue, for instance, focused on Green Lantern's relationships with Vixen and Hawkgirl.

And the only reason characters not on the show appear in the comic is because it doesn't have to worry about licences like the show does. They can do some fun stuff like spotlight obscure characters (such as Space Cabby).

I can't recommend this book highly enough. Everyone who likes the JLU show should check it out.

I enjoyed the tv show alot. Is it to late to get into the series? What issue are they on? And I have not seen the last season. Will that hurt me when i read the comics? And as asked above. Are the issues collected in trades?

Thanks

If you have a general knowledge of the JLU show, you'll be fine. The issues are short, one-issue stories. I remember hearing something about two JLU digest trades coming out, but I'm not sure if they're already out or if they will be coming soon.

But it makes you wonder how long it will be published now when the show has ended.
I have read a couple of issues and i think they where good.

Excellent series. I've been reading it in digest format. (Man, I wish digests would return as a popular format for superhero comics. Ah, the nostalgia.) I think the biggest compliment I can give the series is that its quality is on par with the cartoon.

There's some top-notch talent on these books, too. Writers include Dan Slott, Fabian Nicieza and Adam Beechen. That story about Chronos and his brother breaks my heart every time I read it.

I'd recommend asking your store if they have it and where in the store they have it ;).

If they're like my LCS, they have it in a special area that's easily accessible to small children (meaning with other comics of the little-kid-friendly type near the floor so little ones can get them on their own without help from bigger people) :).
