Hi guys,
our dear friend Rick kindly invited me to post these inks I threw
yesterday on Mike's beutiful pencils of the Batman/Hellboy by Gaslight
(something we started over at the DB). It took me a total of a couple of
hours, divided among 4/5 breaks during my work on the pages for Black Coat
book 4 (which I hope you guys are picking up: book 2 will be on the shelf this
next 24th :))
Anyhow, I am a bit nervous to post it in here because I know how much you
guys love the man (and I do too), but again Rick asked for it, so here it goes :)
I tried to keep it in my style (I didn't want to make a copy of Mike's style)
and hopefully I didn't ruined his pencils.
Thanks
Francesco

Welcome! I'm really growing to love this piece, Francesco. Makes me wanna see more artists inking Mignola. I may have to try my hand at this piece myself.

I really like your inking on that piece! I'm trying to place the influence, but I'm coming up with mostly European and or Spanish artists rather than American. Any particular inker you've created an homage to here, or is this pretty much your own thing?
Thanks for posting it!

Kelly, Hellcow, bitplayer: thank you, guys :-)
hellboyone: again, I am glad you approve this, Rick ;-) Thanks! and
yes, you sould try some inking youself on that piece.
PsychoFyre: thank you, David, glad to hear I kept my personality while
doing it ;-)
Stygian: thank you :-) I can't really do names either: this is actually
my style (see Black Coat pages, where I added some inkwashes to this style
of inks) but it is prbably influenced by 20 years of world wide comicbook
artists ;-)
Thanks,
Francesco
it's a great piece..it's very Wrightson-like.Welcome...post more. Please!

What was the experience like inking it?
Anything that proved tricky?
What did you enjoy about it?
What did you use to do it?

It's been quite a while since I posted something around these parts.
Anyway, Francesco asked me to drop some colours on his inked version of Mr Mignola's Hellboy/Batman pic, and here they are:

gdeo: thank you very much :-D I get the Wrightson name quite few times
and I am always flattered when I read my name in the same line with Bernie's,
Kubert, and Raymond :)
hellboyone: will do it, Rick, and very soon too ;-)
Hellcow: with all the due respect for the Man, it was like inking
someone else work, which I do from time to time just for fun, so it was that,
just lot of fun ;-)
em...: here I am drooling again: you did such a freking amazing job, brother :-D
Please, can anyone here show the final colored piece to Mike? I have his
email since WW Philly but I never emailed him: I didn't want to bother him ;)
Thanks,
Francesco

What Rick said!
I love the inks and I really love the coloured version. The RHOD is a beautiful focal point. Great stuff!

Good lord those are both awsome!!! Those inks work really well with Mike's pencils and the color addition is sweet too. Wow!
Go here (http://joepekar.com/gallery/ColorWork/Mignola_Pekar_Hellboy_BatmanColor) to see what Joe Pekar did with the image. Fun color!

hellboyone, gary bolt, and shonokin: thank you guys :D
Yes, Euan really added an extra touch with his wonderful brushes :)
Tad: Joe's colors are very much alive and fun :) I hope you dig Euan's
take too. I am so lucky to have him coloring my works :)
Francesco
Euan's take is very moody and atmospheric, beautifully done. I just posted Joe's link to show another take. It'd be great to see threads like this with other pencil pages. Like those pages at the end of Mignola's STRANGE PLACES.

If you guys have other pencils pieces, please post them: I am actually
longing to take another stab at MM: who knows, it might actually turn in a
inking gig ;)

Francesco,
Wonderful inks!!!! Wow. I didn't think I would like someone else's inks on Mignola these days.....

Euan's moody colors are great as well...good teamwork!

I started inking the same piece last night. Having to navigate his line work in detail really gave me a whole new level of appreciation for Mignola's drawing skill.
I'll post it when I'm finished!

Petersen: thank you very much, David :D It really means a lot if I
convinced you and other people here that I didn't screw up Mike's pencils
with my own style :) EUan IS good! :D
hellboyone: looking forward to it, Rick, and if you want you can post it
in here and we can turn this in "Ink those Mike's pencils" thread :D

Thought I'd post this one here too... I did one version of this with digital inks... staying very true to MM's intent... but this one I let a bit of myself creep in.
Hope you like!!!

Gorgeous work there, Ron. The line work has lots of personality and I dig the zip tone shading in the background.

Gorgeous inks, Ron :D
I am still debating about the ziptone in the BG, still not sure about that, but I
am lovin' the heavy inks :)
