Wow - no Marvel books for me this week! If I wasn't really interested in reading 52, I'd probably skip the trip to the shop this week.

DC COMICS
52 Week #1, $2.50
I'm all over this like sharks to a wounded whale. Joe Bennett rocks!
Crisis Aftermath The Battle For Bludhaven #3 (Of 6), $2.99
Hmm, I sure hope that DC doesn't pull the ol' switcheroo on me again (like they did with OMAC & Villains United) - this mini better have a definitive end.
Ex Machina #20, $2.99
Once this arc is finished, I'm going to drop in favor of trades.
Nightwing #120, $2.99
There is a 99.99% chance that this book is being taken off my pull list on Wednesday.

Hello pmpknface,

Question: Why is it that you do not get any DC regular issues? Why do you wait for the trade on the DC titles? Just curious.

Hello pmpknface,

Question: Why is it that you do not get any DC regular issues? Why do you wait for the trade on the DC titles? Just curious.
No problem. Here it goes...

Mostly, it's $ reasons. And I've never bought any "core" DC book on a monthly basis. Even as a kid they weren't the characters that I took to. I don't really care enough about Batman or Superman or the Justice League to have their stories in issue format. But if I could I'd have EVERY MARVEL BOOK EVER PUBLISHED, 'cause I'm just nutty about that universe.

So if there is a DC book I think worth getting I'll usually wait for the trade/HC. The only exceptions to this are the "animated" books. To me, THAT is the best DCU - and there is only 1 a month!

I worked for a WB store in Boston for over 3 years and even sold the animation art for most of that. So I started getting into Batman then, and from there slowly got introduced to more DC characters as that universe expanded. I consider that universe to be the equivalent of Marvel's Ultimate line. It's slimmed down, reader friendly, and you don't need 60 years of info to understand it.

I just can't follow the main DC stuff. I'm not even bothering with 52, or IC, or anything related to it. I don't know 70% of these characters and I really don't want to.

Now, as for the Vertigo / Wildstorm books: It's back to more of the $ thing AND they read better collected. I read like 40 titles a month and that's a LOT to keep fresh in my noggin! I'd rather keep getting Thunderbolts and read that monthly and then wait for a FAT dose of Fables all at once. I also lend the Vertigo stuff out to friends sometimes. ;) I also do the same with the Image stuff (Invincible, Walking Dead, Sea of Red, etc...).

The way I look at it, the more $ I save by getting discounted tpb's instead of spending the $ on monthly issues is more $ I can spend on a variety of tpb's! Follow that? This way I get a wider variety of books to read! :D

Normal sized week for me, if you count all the things I didn't order but are going to hunt down anyway.

BMW Films Presents The Hire TP
I don't think I pre-ordered, but I will pick up at some point. I remember the issue solicitations had some of the best "names" attached to it.
Samurai: Heaven & Earth TP
Finally. I was loving the issues until the delay become so interminable. Eager to sit down and read this all the way through.

52 Week #1
Given that I have already ordered through to Week 12 already, this better not suck.
American Virgin #3
I like Seagle but #1 and 2 were...OK. The direction of the series hasn't been set yet, so I'm giving it a little more time.
Crisis Aftermath: Battle for Bludhaven #3
Unfortunatley, I pre-ordered this. I say "unfortunately" because I really hated #1.
Elfquest The Discovery #3
For Patricia.
Jonah Hex #7
So far this series is 6 for 6 in my book!
Superman #652
I read parts #1-4 of "Up, Up, and Away" last night, and I am loving it! An absolutely solid Clark Kent story. And Pete Woods is just The Man!

Girls vol. 2: Emergence TP
OK. Volume 1 was all kinds of weird, but the Luna's work on Ultra has earned them a bit of trust. Plus vol. 1 wasn't bad at all, just...weird.

Annihilation: Super Skrull #2
Did not pre-order, but I will be picking it up, as I am liking Annihilation even more than I thought I already would.
Cable/Deadpool #28
I want to switch to trade in an effort to save money, but I'm hesitant with Fabian's books as I'm not as confident that they'll get collected. Is this me being strange?
She Hulk 2 #7
Yes! I don't know why, but has felt like an eternity since #6.
SPider-Girl #98
I'm going to end up having a twenty issue marathon when #100 comes out.
X-Men: Deadly Genesis #6
Banshee's death aside, I have been enjoying this.

Lost Colony Book 1 Snodgrass Conspiracy TP
Looked interesting and I seem to recall Dave Campbell giving it a favorable review.

Borrowed Time vol. 1
I do believe "Oni goodness" is the phrase we use around here.

Wait for Trade
--------------
Ex Machina
Just read all four trades back-to-back. One or two minor quibbles, but overall I really like this series.
Fables
I do miss reading this monthly, but $$$
Fantastic Four: First Family
Grrrr... I want to read now, but I want it in HC. Must wait.
New X-Men
If P likes the latest trade, then we'll get this in trade when the time comes.
Thunderbolts
The one series I am seriously regretting switching to trade on. To the point that I'm going to start putting back issues in a shopping cart.
X-Men: The 198
I will get the trade and that will be Hine's second audition piece for me.

I started as a marvel reader, but now i'm a hardcore DC guy. I actually don't read any marvel titles monthly anymore. I just wait for trades.
