View Full Version : Could the Modern Marvel Comics Movies Co-Exist in One Universe?

I know that realistically, cross-over movies won't likely happen given the fact that the rights to the various franchises are tied-up by different studios. That's probably the only real downside when it comes to Marvel licensing their characters for motion pictures (where as DC all falls under the Warner Bros. umbrella).

Having different Marvel characters cross-over with each other's universe has happened numerous times before. A perfect example of this is the Spider-Man animated TV series from the 1990s, which had the X-Men (the same line-up and cast as on their respective TV show at the time) guest star. The Spider-Man show also had Robert Hays reprise his role as Iron Man, for which he also did on the Incredible Hulk animated series that aired on UPN. The Incredible Hulk series had an episode where the Fantastic Four (with Beau "Mr. Fantastic" Weaver and Chuck "The Thing" McCann reprised their roles from the FF 1990s TV series) guest starred.

Some cross-over examples (as previously written out in animation) assuming they somehow could make sense in the motion picture canon:
*Fantastic Four (Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, etc. movie)/Daredevil (Ben Affleck movie)
*Fantastic Four/Hulk (Eric Bana/Ang Lee movie)
*Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire movies)/Daredevil (Ben Affleck)
*Spider-Man/X-Men (Bryan Singer/Brett Ratner movies)
*Spider-Man/Blade (Wesley Snipes movies)
*Spider-Man/Punisher (Thomas Jane movie)
*Blade/Punisher (since both are R rated)
*Fantastic Four/Ghost Rider (yet to be released Nicholas Cage movie)
*Hulk/Ghost Rider
*Fantastic Four/Spider-Man (as suggested on the "Secret Wars" adpation of the 1990s Spider-Man TV series)

I guess they could. They basically take place in a setting similar to the real world and not a Batman style backlot. There's nothing that overtly contradicts the other movies. It's not explictly stated Spider-man or the Fantastic Four are the only superheros in their respective movies.

It'd be kind of cool if they had minor characters crossover like Michael Keaton did in Jackie Brown and Out of Sight when he played Ray Nicholette in both movies. Like Joe Pantoliano shows up in Spider-man 3 as Ben Ulrich.

*Spider-Man/Punisher (Thomas Jane movie)

Thomas Jane is in one scene of Spider-Man 2, when MJ is running to Peter's in her wedding dress. Hardly a cross-over like you're thinking, but it's an interesting cameo.

Fantastic Four, X-Men and Daredevil could crossover since there all done by Fox in fact there were two easter eggs in Fantastic Four related to X-Men, one was a framed picture of Doom and the president from X2 and the other was a newsclipping about mutant hate crimes rising.

In Spider-Man, during the wrestling scene, there's are people in the crowd who look an awful lot like the FF and Matt Murdock, though obviously they're not the movie actors.

Of course X-crossovers are always a bit tricky, even in the comics, because the mutant issue is such a big deal that it seems odd that it doesn't get mentioned when the story is about other supherheroes. Though they could at least have JJ call Spidey a "mutant freak" or something.
Also, the American presidents in Hulk and X2 are clearly different men, so there'd be some timeline stuff to work out. X-Men was set in the "not too distant future." It might be interesting to say that what happened with the Hulk was considered one of the first major mutant incidents, and one of the reasons people are so worried by the time of the first X movie.
