In the 80's cartoon series there was a character called Videoman who first turned up as a villian and then in the second series there was a Heroic version who was sent to Xavier for training at the end of the show 'Education of a Superhero' Details here: http://www.spider-friends.com/Episodes/EpGuide.html Apprently this was going to tie into an X-Men cartoon series that never happened. More details here: http://spiderman-web.com/spiderman/tvshows/spiderfriends/education.htm

Videoman never translated into the comics (as far as I know!) but I was wondering what sort of powers a character like this would have if introduced today?

I guess his powers were like those of the Living Lightning, once a member of the West Coast Avengers.

I prefer Betaman of vhs.

Anyway Spiderman and his Amazing friends was a blight upon everything good in this world....

Although i think the Aussie Accent they gave wolverine is the reason they hired Jackman for the role

chew on that for a moment

I caught an episode this weekend. They gave Iceman a kid sister named Light Bird or something like that. She sould turn into living light. Well, good for her.

She also saved Ice Man after he was thrown into outer space for a minute and a half. Uh-huh. Sure she did.

Hey the SpiderFriends Rule! :D

Pryde of the X-Men, another awesome show, gave Wolverine an Aussie accent.

*chewing*Jackman is good for the role.

to get on topic
Videoman, if introduced now might have some computer/internet related powers, in addition to his game & transformation powers

Lightwave's his sister. She was controlled by an evil Shield agent in the episode & gained selfcontrol after Iceman was in danger :D

yup, that was the episode I watched. I just take issue with Iceman existing in outer space. Sure he could...oh well, it's just a cartoon.

I always thought Swarm from that show was the coolest super-villian EVA'!

Heheheh...Spider-man and his Amazing Friends is what got me into comics...seriously. :D

Sure, it was cheesy as hell, but it's a pretty old cartoon, and I really liked it!

Although I thought Swarm was just created for the television series, Swarm is also a real comic book character first appearing in Champions #14-15:

the champions are the spiderman and amazing friends of comics, both have no redeeming value

I remember seeing the Swarm on one of the 4 Spidey titles during the clone saga (I think it was Ben Reilly wearing the webs during that period)... It was one of those few times wherein the storylines were contained only in their respective titles and didn't tie into the others...

Hey you're not alone. I love the show. I wanted to date Firestar (or Aunt May ;) ), & hang out with Spidey & the Iceman. I wanted the team to be in comics together, but they were only in one as a team...I think it was a 711 giveaway.

Why did the cartoon forget to draw Spidey with muscles? ;)

I mean...all that crime fighting gear they never used....

the fact that not only did a huge ball of flame fly out of their house on a regular basis but there was a giant ice sled leading back to the house...

It was all Ms.Lion, the true power behind the Spider-Friends.

I actually remembered one of the X-Men's appearances on the show. One glaring logistic error(Professor sent Storm, Colossus and Kitty off on one team, but the next time we see Colossus and Kitty they're with Cyclops, while Storm's with Nightcrawler and Thunderbird!), but some clever character bits. They pointed out on the show that Nightcrawler had a rep as a practical joker, and that Kitty had a crush on Peter. The show also suggested that Kitty couldn't phase through Vibranium, something that might work in the comic books.

awesome writing.

I think they changed Thunderbird in the cartoon so he didn't clash as much with Wolverine as he had in the comic.

Shame the X-Men cartoon that was supposed to spin off never happened as Thunderbird with these powers could be cooler than the 'real' one in the comics...... he was less of an arse anyway!

what a great show. And T-bird was much better in the show than the comics...at least he got some screen time & magical bear powers. hahaha :D

Thunderbird was awesome in the comics. And i dare say his death is much better than the original phoenix death

Partially agree with that. It was impressive because nobody had ever proprly died in the X-Men before. It shifted expectations for the title, and established a 'nobody is safe' feel to the book's new era.

Yeah, sure, these issue may seem dated now, but try to think of that in the context of the 70s comics.

Her name was Lightwave. She could control all aspects of light.

Working for a secret government agency (S.H.I.E.L.D. I think), she was under mental control of the cyborg guy that was once in love with Firestar, when she went up againsts the Spider-friends. She eventually snapped out of it when she realized her big brother was dying out in space.

The name of that episode is Save The Guardstar

My absolute favorite episode was Vengence of Loki, when the Ice Queen Zerona wanted to marry Iceman and make him her King back in Azgard.

Another favorite is The Attack of the Aracnoid. When this guy Zultan copies Spiderman's powers, but continues to mutate into a half man half spider being.

Videoman was retconned into comics continuity in the Spider-Man Family: Amazing Friends #1 one-shot in 2006(as well as a romance between Iceman and Firestar).

Quite trashy but funny Show. But the german dub version is quite crappy. While we use the englisch original names in the Comics and the other TV shows, all names there are "germanized". The Juggernaut for example was named "Tut Anch Schlagzu" which is pretty awkward.

Was it that long ago? It seemed like it was around 2008...

Anyway, I loved the story, and how they all got together. Plus the romance between Iceman and Firestar.
