This weekend, the combined youth and adult choirs from my church performed at various locales here in Columbia. Tonight, we performed at the Salvation Army. The acoustics were FABULOUS, but what made us really sound good was that for all the energy we put out, the congregation gave it right back to us. They were clapping, shouting praises, everything! The staff had removed their altar beforehand, but during one of the slower songs, they brought it back and almost everyone in that congregation came to the altar and knelt. Then our director had us go out and stand among them for the next song, then circle up with them for the song after that before bringing us back onstage for the final number. All the while I kept thinking, "Why can't the congregation at my church worship like this?" It was true, uninhibited worship, something that, unfortunately, you don't see every day. And it was nothing short of awesome.
I just had to share.
