Of Jealousy and Cults (http://www.geocities.com/backspaced.geo/JealousyPage.htm) - My 2nd favorite of our collaborative fictionsHoly crap, I'd forgotten all about that one.

It did turn out well, didn't it?

All this talk of Secret Societies and Lollypop Gestapoes and Beaver Patrols and Papermonkies and such has reminded me of one thing...

I've never been asked to join anything here.

It only took me nine years, but I finally grasped it: I'm not in The Clique and I never have been. You all just let me think I was.

I've been such a fool.

You're a member of the SSoSS, actually. It was just on a need to know basis and you didn't need to know.

The Lollypop Gestapo used to also include you, Tango, fly, and Hairbutt, all of whom, I think, contributed to the survey (we were ambitious, but too lazy to do anything by ourselves). The four of you didn't show much interest in any of the other projects that we were too lazy to complete, and then you sort of drifted off. Hence the reason you're not part of the super-top-secret mailing list where the rest of us pretend to be interested in Ender's and Richard's philosophy discussions!
I didn't write any of the survey...I got my membership the other way.

Remember you had a contest to guess all the members and I was the first to do so...So I was given membership. :)

Okay. I won't ask about the circumstances in which that pic was taken. Certainly I've been photographed in far, far less.

But how could you have possibly thought it was a good idea to expose Internet comic nerds to it? I mean, the last thing this economy needs is an inhaler shortage!

Hey, anyone else remember the CBR mailing list?

That's funny, I have zero memory of being a member of the Lollypop Gestapo... but I simultaneously remember helping come up with the name. Hmmm.

You see, this is how I've matured, these days I'd want to call us the Lollypop Einsatzgrupen. Much scarier than the Gestapo.

JonahCon 99 (http://hulaguy.tripod.com/Jonahcon99.html) - Easily my favorite CBR Commnity fiction that we've ever written. As T'Omm once told me, "You know what was so good about that? Everybody was on."

Oh, that was priceless--I had completely forgotten about that thread. In particular, I'm shocked by the fact that fly threw in Evan Markowski, my old high school nemesis, who never posted here and never would.

Which brings to mind one of my favourite CBR memories. I remember telling fly about one of Evan's brilliant non-sequitors, which seemed to contain a lunatic insight possible only in the words of an idiot man-child ("Farmers can touch anything!"). We both fixated on the idea of turning it into a Quote of a Day, and after the requisite amount of pestering and nagging, T'Omm posted it with an addendum, "Submitted forcefully by fly on the wall and Ender." Truly, one of my proudest hours. Still, I don't think Bartlett's has clued in, though I'm sure they'll come around with time.

One of these days we might actually invite you onto the super-super-top-secret mailing list, where all the fun conversations are.

My memory? My talk with Brian about Authority on the Wildstorm board.

Then I was nominated for "Favorite new Poster" with Jeffery, Howyadoin and Trix. I was in great company that year.

But my best memorys come from when I actually got to meet the people I was talking with. Rally and Marks Weddingcon, DragonCon and SDCC. I cannot wait for this years to finally meet Fly.

Who threatened to leave should I have won the COTM. But he stayed around.

You see, this is how I've matured, these days I'd want to call us the Lollypop Einsatzgrupen. Much scarier than the Gestapo.

As I recall, the outcry against our use of the Gestapo was enough to make us censor it. I think we put an * in it somewhere, like Gest*po. Einsatzgrupen might have managed to slip by most people.

Also, if I may play the role of your memory for a moment, I believe you were part of the original mailing list, which was basically a group of Blue Beetle's friends from CBR. After a point, we decided that we weren't actually his friends, and thus, the name had to be changed. The debate was quite heated, but in the end, Lollypop Gestapo was the only name that captured our unique mix of grandiose scheming and ineffectuality.

You said "my first CBR meeting" when talking about Rally & BB's hitching. All the other things listed were forum-specific and set in time. But you said "First SDCC" and "SDCC #2" without any qualification. I helpfully supplied that.

And for what it's worth, the Gest*po wasn't so much a clique in and of itself, but more a clique designed to... um, I can't remember if we were making fun of cliques or making fun of people who complain about cliques. I can't remember. THAT'S HOW IMPORTANT IT WAS!

Few will remember me, in fact I wasn't sure I should post. But since I stopped posting a few years ago, CBR has
always been in my bookmarks. I still lurk around and read posts. I did actually post under a different name for alittle
on the DC boards.
But I do want to say Thank you to Jonah and others for making these boards such a great meeting place. I came along
in the late 90's, around 98 I believe, or the fall of 97. I'm getting old so the memories are drying up. People here though
were so welcoming, and fun to talk to. We had just purchased a small computer from a salon that was going out of business
and the internet was still pretty new to me. I remember somedays just hitting the 'reload' button to see if anyone had
responded to a post I'd made. That was back in the PB&J days of old when you had to move the screen over cos
the messages would just keep getting further to the right as they went on. And it was fun to sit in chat and actually talk
to these guys about everything or nothing at all. The mask'd balls were fun, although drove me crazy cos I could NEVER figure out
who was who. Everyone was so good at putting on a different front. Oh except me. After about two posts it was usually
Paul (Hairbutt, Nutty Butty, Hippo) who said 'Oh hey Artie'. Thats a 'drop your head on the keyboard' kind of moment I use to have a bit
of. Being the First Miss CBR was kinda cool though. Even if there were only two or three other acutal girls who were in that contest.
Didn't Wes try to sneak in , in a dress and wig? Or was that another party he told about. And thank you Wes for the Bday present
you sent me one year. I still have the book. And thanks to Nutty for the drawings for the NEB and such. I've long since lost them.
All but one of Artemis. Pitty since they were really good.
Anyway, even though I don't post. (due to working long hours at hospital with a bunch of assmunchers and F-tards that's made me
re think my whole career choice) I still think about you guys and really do wish you all the best.
So shout outs to Hairbutt,MacDanny,Dox, Wes, BA,Az, BB,Howyadoin (who I always thought was too cool for school), Evil Sneak,

Early memory I have of the forums is when word first got out that there was a Moderators forum ... a "super secret" back room where moderators discussed moderator things. MAN did that upset some folks in the old days and there was this mad rush by a lot of members to try to gain access, to try and find out what was going on back there. Thankfully that's died down.

Although now that I've brought it back up ... good job, Jonah!

Remember when we used to invent controversial thread titles on the back room so that they would show up in the "new post" listings? Non-mods could see the titles but not the posts.

Remember when we used to invent controversial thread titles on the back room so that they would show up in the "new post" listings? Non-mods could see the titles but not the posts.

"The posters must never know about this!" HA!Yeah, we're a wee bit evil.

What I loved about the old Mod board, was that if you were at any time a moderator, you had access. I remeber I still had access after the death of the Survey Board.Shit, I wish I'd known that, after stepping down from the Vertigo moderatorship. I could've watched more of the mod board flamewars.

True. But .. oh, there's been some doozies since then. I've been right smack in the middle of a few of them. They suck. It's a whole other side to the mods many posters don't see. . . um. . . because . . .because the room doesn't exist. What you talking about?

Back on track, here's some good CBR-related Real Life Memories:

My first CBR Meet-Up with J'onn. We met at Jim Hanley's, had some good home cooking, and a few drinks at Shades of Green. That same bar hosted Amazon and Joe Grendel and "Amy" got drunk for the very first time and they made out on my dorm room floor. Many a year later, Rally and BB got engaged there. I also drank with Merl there.

Huh. Kid Omega was a patron there since even before we had met, and thus is the origin of our mutual acquaintance madness.

So Shades is a fairly CBR Bar, now that I think of it.

To this day I still sometimes write nerd graphiti on the bathroom walls.

Ah, memories. One of recent memory was noticing a thread that our pal Nubly started about Circumsision and about a "pain he was having down there, etc." Needless to say it was quickly locked away and jettisoned after two or three posts. I happened to click on it right after it was shut down and I remember feeling great disappointment about not getting to read this thread. You never know where that one could have gone. Especially with Nubs at the helm. For the best, I'm sure. For the best.
Ah, memories.

Where the heck have you been??? And have you heard from anyone else...Apart from Jesse?

You know, around. I haven't heard from any of them (excepting EDM, which doesn't count) since the asiaco forums crashed.

Have you heard from Jesse? I'd be interested to know whatever happened to him.

EDIT - oops, I thought the other posts had been deleted, rather than broken off. - So I posted this again in case Paul hadn't seen it or had a chance to reply.

He emailed me a few months ago. He had still been posting on the emergency Monkey Alliance Board and emailed me to let me know.

Something about changing the format of his Radio Station AGAIN! :)

I stumbled upon CBR for the first time in yeeeeaaaars last night and was directed here, so I'll share

A long, long time ago we figured out classification for the different "era's" of CBR and I came during the Silver Age. After the shift from the Kingdom Come-themed site. One things for sure... this place looks a LOT different now. Anyhow, I came around the time of Heroes Reborn and the post-Onslaught mess... when Azangel was still Aztek, the days prior to JN (is that the same Jesse you mentioned a few posts ago, Paul?) and a chat that would hardly hold 20 people before crashing. I was part of the J Street something-or-others over on the NEB... Hippo, Az, Silver Lantern, Thanos, Rygen (I think?) amongst other banding together to fight mythical crime. Good times

Good to be back. I saw a post from Buried Alien, Dodds, Tim, and Paul but who else posts here from way back when? fly? Shocwave? Zen? Jana? Am I remembered at all?

Jayna

Sorta kinda. JN was the Monkey Alliance pretending to be Jesses. Jesse was Jesse, a part of the MA, but had nothing to do with their shenanigans. :)

Surprisingly enough, I found that I never deleted my registration email. That's dated July 30, 2003. That seems so early. I think I might have lurked until early 2004. I think I started out lurking (and posting ever so rarely) on the Classics Board.

It's practically numb, I tells ya.

Okay, so, having just read a 53-page thread...

I remember writing "Phantom of CBR", the CBR Shakespeare (featuring Jayna, Brimstone, fly, JeeB and others). That was originally planned to run 25 parts... it ran for seven. I still have hard copies somewhere.

Ah, JeeB. My "battles" with him are one of my earliest memories of CBR.

53 pages for me too, and it looks like I have quite a few to go yet.

Hey! I get it now....I remember fly going on for years that gail hated him, though she mentions not having anything to do with him when they had that big argument a year or two ago.

It was all Wes' fault!

Holy shit, I don't remember this at all. I don't even remember (sorry, it's my memory, not anything to do with you) a poster named Wesley Dodd. Decibelle rings a bell, npi, but I can't for the life of me remember her.

I also don't remember Joe being unlikable back then. Is that really how it was? I thought he was quite a jovial guy, Paul, too.

Man, I am almost POSITIVE I wasn't doing crack. Why don't I remember any of this?

She was really pissed off when people started to defend me in the chatroom. It was an honest mistake!

I can't remember if that's why I was banned -- she may have gone to Joe Grendel or JasonYu. Buried Alien got me out of that one.

Oh, my god, SAY I didn't do anything that stupid!

Never mind, I probably did. What a moron!

Sorry, Wesley, that sucks.

I joined the CBR community last year, when I started reading comic books again after a 20 year hiatus I think. The thing with CBR is that there are so many active members from all walks of life and the best part is from all parts of the world. Then some of the comic book writers and artist would post also, which was pretty cool. So it's nice when fans can ask them a question or comment on something and the creative teams explain some part of a charater or arc to back up why they did it that way.

But what a cool thread. I'm sorry I missed it when it first happened and it's worth revisiting, dammit!
