Along with the opening of X3 and Superman Returns, Free Comic Book Day is the comic nerd holiday!

And we celebrate by dragging our friends and family members to our local funnybook tavern under the guise of "GET YO SUMTHIN FREE!"

This year I am VERY excited for the brand new Runaways/X-Men by Brian K. Vaughan and Skottie Young and FREE SCOTT PILGRIM featuring a new story by Bryan Lee O'Malley!

And on a more personal level, the Keenspot Spotlight 2006 which happens to include a 4-page story I wrote (and which was beautifully digi-painted by my best friend Anna Berger) for our self-published "I Only Hate" book last year. This time being seen by potential LOTS MORE FOLK than who saw the 300-ish copies we printed.

You pay nothing for it and in return your Tracie Mauk comic book collection becomes even more complete! (as though there were a lot to track down!)

I will be whoring myself at my local shop, Pro Players, in Norfolk along with my Callithump compatriates: Owlie creators Bob Scott and Mike Leffel, Stephanie Lurk and my partner in crime, Anna Berger. We'll be signing and being strange and raffling off an INCREDIBLE jam piece created by Mike, Anna, Steph and myself (view it HERE! (http://www.deviantart.com/view/21793208/)). We'll be creating a NEW piece to be displayed in place of this one and then raffled off next year.

Enjoy the day!! :D

I hope you had a happy FCBD Mauk! I was with my fam in NYC, so I couldn't go. :( But I called my shop and had them put the Runaways/X-men book aside for me. I'll keep on the lookout for your book too! :)

Congrats!

I maintained my perfect record of not attending.

I hope my comic shop put aside a copy of the Duck book for me. I'd like to grab that. . . Otherwise, I'm sure Gemstone will have stacks of them in San Diego again this year. I hope.

I'd offer you the copy that I picked up...if only my kids didn't already have their grubby little hands on it! :D

How many years has FCBD been going on now? 3? 4? I've been twice - both times because I wanted to pick up the free Image book. This year's issue was really cool. I read the Invincible 4 pager on the drive home from my shop on Saturday.

I flipped through my stack of free books last night and it doesn't look like I have the one that Tracie's story is in. Guess I'll have to look for it when I hit my LCS this week.

Trip - Yeah, I think this is #4. Thanks for the offer on the Disney book -- let your kids enjoy it, indeed. We need to bring them up right. ;-) I'll grub a copy off of somewhere, fear not.

Thankfully, Image sent me their FCBD offering a few weeks ago. I forgot I had read it already. heh heh heh

Yeah, the 1st one was timed to be when the 1st Spidey movie was out (I think) and that was 2003 - right?

Congrats Tracie! Hope everything went well!

As for our FCBD haul, DCB put a couple of FCBD books in our weekly delivery, but no X-Men/Runaways. :(

I had a GREAT Free Comic Book Day!

You can check out all the fun we had HERE. (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=18314186&blogID=118304735&MyToken=7d791dff-b2cb-4bc3-b6bc-b24b9cac5d46)

And if everybody didn't get a copy of X-Men/Runaways or Free Scott Pilgrim, check if your local comic shop has some left because they are GREAT reads for GREAT books that everyone should hop onboard to.

I missed the official FCBD because none of my comics shipped that week, but my Comic Shop Guy held on to a copy of the Conan/Star Wars flip book for me because he knew I would want it, and because I've been a regular customer at his shop for almost as long as he has had his shop (I discovered him about 2 weeks after he opened)

And yes, I KNOW this post is about 2 weeks late...I've been busy ;)

I just read the Runaways/X-Men book last night. FUN! :) I also liked the Ult Spidey recap. That's kinda neat.
