According to http://animenewsnetwork.com/ Hido Kojima announced on his podcast that Konami will be producing an american-made Metal Gear Solid movie.
So yeah. Get to discussin'!

I'm not sure how you do MGS as a movie without it just being a parody of James Bond with a lot of really stupid code names.

The games are already pretty cinematic in themselves. They're also generally more confined and claustrophobic (Well, up to MGS 3) than a Bond movie. It's an entirely different animal.

I think MG:S would be more like Bourne Identity, only with sci-fi aspects.

Well then I suggest you play the games and if you have pay attention to them. The games are movies practially and not once made me think of james bond. Infact nothing about the games reminds me of james bond.

I'm hoping that Uwe Boll doesn't direct this.

Um... The theme song of Snake Eater perhaps?

snake eater was obviously a parody of bond songs because of the setting. They even mentioned it in the game. A MGS game would be much deeper and more intriguing than any bond movie has been. Especially the last eight or so.

Don't worry about that. Hideo Kojima has refused to let Uwe Boll even come near this.
I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to direct it himself.

Honestly I was hoping they would make a MGS movie. But looking at the other game-movies gives me second thoughts. (sortof) I mean, at least Resident Evil was pretty good. (It was a bit wierd, but good) The Street Fighter movie was good. (Not the real action one) So if anything, I hope they make this good.

The question is, who would play Snake? My vote goes to Jackman, or maybe Christian Bale.

Josh Holloway ("Sawyer" from LOST)
A more unconventional choice would be to cast Kiefer Sutherland as Snake and Sean Bean as Liquid.
Hopefully they realize the games excesive speechifying, if including in a movie, makes everyone think you are pretencious.
And don't let the bosses inexplicably explode in the movie.

I hope it's a movie on its own and has original villains rather than using the ones from the game. I just wouldn't have that much motivation to see it if it plays out the same way as the game, because I could simply play the game instead.

David Hayter, the voice of Snake.

I think a big difference is that James Bond is crap at his job and that's why there are so many of him (James Bond being a code name only). Spy? Yeah right, he keep getting caught.
Now Snake on the other hand. Entering somewhere and not being detected...that's skill.

Yup. But who would you get to play Liquid? They have to look practically identical, and I dunno if the "double role" thing would work, for several reasons.
My vote (ignoring the identical problem): Jason Issacs (The Patriot, Black Hawk Down)

Not that Bond doesn't suck at his job but Snake did get caught in MGS...

The Metal Gear Solid comics have done a pretty good job of paring down the codec conversations and streamlining the narrative. That gives me hope that a decent MGS script could realistically be made, but video game to cinema translations have been so poor so far.

They don't have to look entirely identical. If Snake got the Dominant Genes and Liquid got the Recessive Genes, or however it went, they should naturally look similar, but not identical. It's like how Liquid is blonde and Snake is dark-haired.
Huzzah!

Snake is japanese/british mix
I think it would work better to cast that way
Now im not some "it has to be like the comics/movies/game guy"
Dislike that
Make it work for the movie. But a japanese badass secret agent rambo type go would work better because not really seen that often

Yeah...like danny devito and arnold in Twins.

Beats me, but there can only be one Big Boss.

Although I always thought that the best way to do a MGS movie would be to translate the original Metal Gear as a movie, with the MGS visual style.

So they're are going to try this with actors? Or will it be Computer Graphics?

I'm pretty sure they changed the tax laws Boll was exploiting, so hopefully he's got that much less incentive to keep making movies.

Not enthused about this at all. As noted above, the game's already cinematic. All a movie would be is a bastardized version of the game we've already played.
It's the main reason most video game movies suck.

The only update so far is that David Hayter wrote a script for the movie and it got turned down.

I want to see what they are going to for the Metal Gear unite itself. Will it be completly CG, or will it be a mix of mini models, and specialy built props.

The games are already pretty lousy movies, so I guess just get that guy that did the Resident Evil franchise, and it'll be about the same.

He co-wrote the screenplay for the Scorpion King. He also wrote unused drafts for Hulk and The Chronicles of Riddick.

Ouch. Guess he's not a good writer is he?Hollywood rejecting a script usually has little to nothing to do with the actual quality of the script.
(after all, consider how many crappy scripts get greenlighted and turned into feature films each year - heck, someone actually looked at the script for Catwoman and said, "yes, this would make an excellent film!")

I assume that's what happened to Star Wars? lol (j/k)
Metal Gear the movie doesn't sound that bad of an idea. I just wonder if it'll turn out as good as people want. Hopefully not like Silent Hill. As someone mentioned earlier, I think Christan Bale would make a good Solid Snake.
