On the theory that sometimes it's better, or at least quicker, to apologise after than get permission first, here's a first look at pages 2 and 3 of the first issue of The Eternals. (If this post vanishes it'll be because I'm not meant to show it yet. Somehow I don't think anyone will mind, though. It made me smile to get this in email this morning -- we're trying to, not copy Kirby, but to get that feeling of scale and energy and wonderful madness that Kirby had, and, for me anyway, Messrs Romita Jr, Miki and Hollingsworth pull it off... Click on it to see it larger.)

John Romita Jr. is the heir to Kirby's throne at Marvel. I think Steve Epting could be the heir to John Buscema, if Marvel plays their cards right. I like when an artist is associated with a company, although I wasn't broken hearted to see the Kubert brothers go. There are a number of better artists available, and Marvel seems to have snagged most of them.
I wouldn't ever want JRjr. to leave Marvel, and this piece is a great example of how good he can be. I only saw one issue of the Sentry, and I felt it was not as good as he's been. Black Panther was good, and Wolverine was great. His Spider-Man is always great. This appears to be his best stuff to date, if that spread is any indication.

JRJR has become one of Marvels all-time iconic artists, but I'll admit that it would be incredible to see his take on Superman or Batman...

I don't know, they'd look too much like a Marvel character. I mean, I love JRjr, but i wouldn't want to see him draw any other characters besides Marvel's. To me, when you say Marvel artist i think Jack Kirby, JRsr, John Buscema, and JRjr.

Wow! Beautiful!!
Can't wait for Eternals!!
Pages two and three of the first issue.
Check it out! (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=7221)I like the looks of this much, much more than those earlier sketches of the grimacing Makarri and Ikaris and an inexplicably pixie-like (new tongue-twister) Sersi.

If anybody can capture the granduer of the Eternals, it's JRJR. This will be an amazing double-pager.

Gaiman and JRJR?
DAMN it all!
I've gone twenty five years successfully avoiding an Eternals comic book, or even committing a notable Eternals guest appearance to memory.
And now I gotta friggin buy this...
I guess you can run all you want from comics you find stupid, but they'll get you eventually. I suppose Alan Moore and John Cassady will be announcing their Kamandi relaunch any day now.

That is one marvelous piece of comic art. It just has that sense of awe about it.

I got more of a Moebius-vibe from this preview page. That large group of people standing there and reaching for Ikaris and Makkari reminds me a lot of certain scenes in Incal and Silver Surfer: Parable.
