Anyone know if Blade has a monthly book still? You think it would sell big, since the film franchise rocked (well, at least 1 & 2). The tone is there, the character is fairly solid, and the support charatcers are dope (whistler?). Personally, I think Marvels supernatural world needs a little revamp so why not use Snipes, I mean Blade? He's perfect.

Nope, he's not. And I doubt it would sell that well. Blade or Vampires in general for Marvel hasn't been a really strong seller in ages. Last appearance of Blade that I know of was in Black Panther.

Yeah, i don't know. Blade doesn't have to be JUST a vampire hunter. He has real powers, super strength, a good fighting prowess, etc.. With a real writer I think this could be cooler than hell.

I dont think blade is a good solo book. He is good for support and possible for a limited series here and there.
But blade is to straight forward for me to enjoy monthly really. He is half vampire, kills full blood vampires and thats about it. And on the whole vampires bore me. You can only do so much with him. He isnt even like a charcter who could branch out into other areas, he is to hardcore action.

Now Marvel could take a page from DC, and try to do a 'Magic/Demons/Supernatural' type of team with characters that deal with things like that. In fact, that would probably be the best bet.

That may be true, but don't you think that's the a direct bi-product of the shoddy writing? I think the character has some untapped potential.

Maybe they could call the team "Midnight Sons"?

LOL, that is exactly what I was thinking, although the idea has potential, it was driven into the ground in the 90's.

I was thinking the same thing. Though, in a non-90's sort of way. All of Marvels supernatural heroes are pretty damn cool. Way better than DC in MHO. Marvel just doesn't put any stock into them. Ghost Rider, Blaze, Doc Strange, Nightstalkers, Blade, etc.. They're not lame by any means. When's the last time Mephisto was used sucessfully? Throw in Deadpool for laughs and you have yourself a team. :D

Maybe a relaunch of the Defenders with some of the Midnight Sons team mixed in? The Defenders were always the cosmic/supernatural team. You could pull a pretty hefty roster in that way and alternate people in and out like the Avengers used to.
Doctor Strange, Namor, Silver Surfer, Hulk, Nighthawk, Valkyrie, Hellcat, Gargoyle, Son of Satan, Clea, Moondragon, Beast, Iceman, Angel, Devil Slayer, Blade, Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch), Vengeance, Frank Drake, Hannibal king, Victoria Montesei, etc.
That's quite a pool of potential heroes to choose from, which is fun for artists and writers and I think fans alike.

Funny...I am currently reading all of the Midnight Sons books in order (thanks Milehighcomics!). I am about to the Midnight Massacre now.
This had nothing to do with Blade did it?
Uhm...yeah, I think he works better with other cast members, not as the star.

I first thought this topic was called Blade, where is the monkey? I was very upset when I learned it was not about monkeys.

I like Blade but that is true. He can hold down mini's and crossovers maybe, but a monthly most likely not.

Of all of Marvel's horror characters Blade is the easiest one to launch a series for.
I'm surprised Marvel hasn't launched another series after the Bart Sears version failed to take off, mostly because it was terrible.
Give me Warren Ellis and Leonardo Manco and I'll buy every issue.

You want to do Blade right? Look at how they're relaunching Moon Knight. Figure out what you want his status to be in the Marvel Universe, change it to that, and make the first issue so balls to the wall good, no one can complain about it not jiving with his last in-continuity appearance.

This is a common misconception about the Defenders. Dr. Strange and Valkyrie were supernatural characters, and the Silver Surfer was cosmic (and rarely around). But Sub-Mariner, Hulk, Nighthawk, and Hellcat were not, and more to the point, the Defenders often fought menaces that were neither supernatural nor cosmic. For example: Nebulon, the Squadron Sinister, Magneto, the Wrecking Crew, the Badoons, the Grandmaster, Korvac, the Headmen, and Zodiac. A better way to describe their rogues gallery would be Weird, almost Grant Morrison-Doom Patrol level of weirdness at times.

They did launch MAX Blade series with Christopher Hinz and Steve Pugh. It lasted a few issues, and while I had high hopes, it wasn't anything special. Like most of you, I think Blade works best as part of an ensemble. After all, Blade's classic adventures were in Dracula's book. It would be pretty cool to see Blade work as an agent against the occult for Dr. Strange with characters like Daimon Hellstorm, Hannibal King, and Modred the Mystic, but I'd bet the failure of Howling Commandos would work against it. A great artist would be Peter Gross, who is finishing up on Lucifer, and while Ellis has always had a knack for these types of characters, Mike Carey is in the Bullpin now and really, really wants a shot at Dr.Strange.

I don't know that I'd want to see Blade as part of a superteam, especially if you want to tie him to the movie franchise. He's been the lone wolf against the hordes of vampires, it really doesn't work if Spider-Man swings in and webs up the bloodsuckers. For that reason, I think Blade needs to be a totally separate universe where superheroes simply don't exist.
Unfortunately, that also leads to the biggest problem: Blade is a one-trick pony. With his backstory, he's *ONLY* going to deal with vampires, he has no reason to tackle anything else. Once the vampires are gone, there's no point to keeping Blade around. In typical comic book fashion, it wouldn't take too long for the writers to get rid of all of the vampires, since they have to keep escalating the threat constantly and there's only so far you can go with the vampire theme so the project probably isn't one worth undertaking in the long term.

No disrepect to your favourite character, but the figure looks like that blue thing from Aladdin.:D
The Genie that's it, couldn't even remember his name.:p
