powers tpb hardcover?

does this volume collect the first marvel books or start from the beginning with the image series? i am trying to decide how to start reading and need some help! thanks.

Its the first 12 issues of the Image series.

I think the art is retouched and recolored, but don't quote me.

The Image series ran thirty-seven issues plus an annual.

You probably should read it before the Marvel stuff, but I don't know if you have to.

The Image series went on for like 30 issues or so. This hardcover just collects the first 12.

It helps. It sets up the characters, sets up Christian Walker's history. If anything, get the trades of "sellouts" and "forever". Although the trades are published by Icon (Marvel), they collect the last 2 Image stories, and serve as a context for the status quo shown in the begining of the current Icon (Marvel) series.

Plus the 37 image issues are really good. Not that the Marvel issues are necessarily worse, but if I had to pick my favorite arcs, they'd all be from the Image issues.

I think you NEED to read "Who Killed Retro Girl," which collects the first six Image issues. A lot of stuff is set up there that plays a role now in the current Marvel series, including Retro Girl herself and (if memory serves) some of the stuff involving Deena Pilgrim.

okay, then i need to get the trades to start. but please tell me why amazon lists the third trade as $80 used! are the trades out of print or incomplete? i guess i need some help finding the right order to pick these up.

that's kind of bizarre. I recommend ebay. I just searched for "powers tpb" and came up with some pretty cheap listings for those. I can't imagine anyone paying 80 bucks for the thing.
