Is this series any good? Is it out in TPB format?

Yes, it's good, though I would advise you to try out a single issue first, because it's definitely something that not everybody will like.
It's not out in TPB.

I definitely think you should check it out, I loved the series but wasn't a fan of the ending. But due to circumstances Casey dealt with, I'm very "forgiving" for lack of a better term. IIRC Casey's back was against the wall w/ the abrupt cancellation of the series, but I remember reading that he was pretty satisfied w/ the ending, so it's all good.
I was able to buy the whole set in one Ebay auction pretty cheap (even the variant #1, loved those Ashley Wood covers!), so ya might wanna check out that route..., I eventually sold it on Ebay, too. Or roll up yer sleeves and go hunting in the bins, I guess.
VERY unique, a series that had AWESOME potential and it's really a diamond in the rough. SO DEFINITELY check it out, at least the first few issues to get a feel of the series. LOTS o' adult themes, w/ some "in-your-face" situations but handled very nicely by Casey. Keep an open mind and read between the lines and you'll enjoy his social commentary put on panel.
 <-- I usually see pics of Casey in shades, so there he is.

Yeah, read it, buy all 9 of them. Love them. Re read them. This comic is great. Ashley Wood and Joe Casey are both fantastic and I recomend anything by Ashley, and most things by Joe.
If you like this read Wildcats 3.0. If you like 3.0 read this.

I agree with everyone... Automatic Kafka was a great book.
However, I never got into 3.0. I got a bunch out of a quarter bin once, but couldn't really get through them. Can anyone give a little more info about the series? Didn't they start renumbering or something? Forgive my ignorance, but I do like Casey's work and would like to give 3.0 another chance.

You're better off reading Casey's version 2 stuff before you move onto 3.0. Unfortunately, the first version 2 TPB isn't the most accessible to newcomers. It is worth it though
