Yesterday, while driving, I heard something quite odd. A cover of the old Talking Heads tune, "Burning Down the House", done by the extremely odd team-up of Tom Jones and the Cardigans.
I'm guessing this cover has been around for awhile and I just now heard it for the first time, but I must say, I was quite pleasantly surprised, on two levels. First off, I'd never have thought of such an odd combo as Jones and the Cardigans - the very idea is sort of amusing. Second, and much more surprising, the cover version actually worked. Not nearly as good as the original Heads version, mind you, but not bad at all. Fun, in a weird, goofy way.
Anyone else had any pleasant surprises lately?

When I saw the title of this thread, and saw who posted it, I was sure it was going to be about getting woken up by oral sex.

This news about Jones and the Cardigans is a pleasant surprise, presuming the cover is as good as you describe.
Since my work day is ahead of me, hopefully I will have many pleasant surprises in the form of big tips and flirtatious hotties.

According to everything else I've written today, I killed some rabbits and watched some guy die on the side of the road. So no, not really.
Well, Robert Smiegel was on the Adam Carolla Show today to plug his SNL special, and Smiegel is always funny. So I guess that was good. But other than that, no.

The Cardigans...
*googles*
Ah, yes, the "Lovefool" band. Thought they sounded familiar.
Yes, that is an excessively odd combination. I wonder how they met up and decided to work together?

While that is quite pleasant, it isn't too much of a surprise, as it happens with semi-regularity. It's still quite appreciated, though. Great way to start the day, really.

That's definately one of my fave covers by the way. Works really well.
Yes, it has been around for quite some time, but it never really got the attention it deserved when it first came out.

I wondered the same thing. I don't know if you'd get a more odd combo just randomly tossing performers together. Ozzy Osbourne + Faith Hill wouldn't be quite as odd a combo.
What was more odd, though, was how well it worked. It sure beat the crappy Foreigner and Genesis and Black Eyed Peas and Toby Keith songs that were playing around the same time on other stations.
