Cali's Democratic party went and passed a resolution supporting next Mondays "Day Without an Immigrant" boycotts (also recently renamed "Great American Boycott" which sound to me like a WWE event).

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for immigration. Grandpa always said if you're willing to sweat in America, you're an American. We can't build a nation on the back of immigrants and then turn and kick them out. I'm a supported of Immigrant Friendly reform...

...but this month is STATE MANDATED testing in Junior High Schools (and I think many High Schools) . And then the State goes and tells students not to go to school (which is called truancy, and is a crime, as opposed to not going to work, which is not a crime). The state organized the school curriclulum to build their entire year around this important two week period, then tells the kids it's OK not to come to school. No amount of wishy-washy "Go to school kids, and THEN boycott" talk can erase that the state just endorsed the worlds largest ditch day at possibly the worst time.

But Sen. Dave Cox, R-Fair Oaks, said lawmakers should not encourage lawbreakers even if they disagreed with the law.

"It is irresponsible for this body to advocate that students leave school for any reason," Cox said.

He introduced a bill that would require a special school attendance audit on Monday, so that schools would not receive state aid for any student who was truant. School funding is based on attendance levels. O'Connell said the state would not grant waivers to schools that lose funding if students were absent while out protesting.

...and just to be extra unhelpful, a member of the senate the had just ENCOURAGED students to skip school, introduces a bill to make DAMN SURE that the schools loose as much moolah as possible in the State Sanctioned Protest. And that is in addition to the lowered scores and administratitve nightmare dealing with losing 10%-50% of those testing students, which I'm sure the State Assembly will blame on bad teachers.

EDIT:
Just to clarify, I think immigrant workers boycotting work seems like a very sensible way to show the value of immigrant labor. However, I think for students to 'boycott' school is counterproductive and harmful to students.
