Well, it seems that people are starting to not like MySpace now. There have been some recent problems, and I'd be more than glad to tell about one that comes from Indy.

This thread is devoted to your views on the website.

I have a profile there. I only stay on, because I can't convert some people to a far better site.

Whores- People who post stupid fucking idiotic bulletins.
People who beg you for attention
People having 1000000000 friend. It's making me pretty angry thinking about it actually.

It's a shitty place.

I'm on there. A tad addicted to finding old friends and what not. It's fun.

Are there any other good alternatives at this point? And of course there's going to be a backlash -- it's the most popular community site of its kind out there. The biggest and best always get crap flung at them.

The one thing I'll never understand about MySpace are people who insist on populating their page with so much HTML and animated images to make it unreadable. What's the damned point? No, you're not looking cooler by including an animated background on your page. You just end up looking like a jackass.

I don't see how any epileptic could use MySpace. MySpace kills epileptics.

I was there once. A friend has 1 set up for his band. It may be an age thing, but I really dont understand the point of it. Its not like you can actually find someone you know when user names are crazyg234 & hotgrrl853. I understand the use of the site to pimp your band/project, or whatever youre selling, but beyond that, ?????

I'm 44 and have no clue what Myspace is . . .

Is it a place for personal web pages and blogs? and if so, what makes it so popular?

I understand the place can be a abused, and a hunting ground for pedophiles.

I'm using it to attempt to find people I went to school with. It's a bit difficult with the weird screen names, but I'm updated on when people from my schools join, so I can look at names, pictures, and ages and see if anyone is familiar.

It's worse when they get it wrong.

I'm on this one site called Profilenation (http://www.profilenation.com), but they're moving to a new site soon (the old one....has issues) but it's still really great.

In a few months, it'll blow everything out the water and off the planet.

Thinking.
If this is a thread for discussing myspace, maybe you should change the title from 'Problems with MySpace'.

It was all in Indy.

A tip from an animal-rights group led to charges against two 14-year-old Marion County girls who posted a video of themselves kicking a cat wrapped in plastic on the popular Web site MySpace.com.

"I think we have a pretty good case," Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said Thursday as he watched the video online for the first time.
Authorities were alerted to the video by a letter from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, charging documents indicate.

The nearly two-minute video, which was still on the Web site Thursday afternoon, shows the girls dropping, shoving and kicking the plastic-wrapped cat, named Stump, around a room, making comments such as "How does it feel?"

MySpace.com officials could not be reached for comment. The social-networking site, used by more than 40 million people, lets users create their own Web pages and is especially popular with teens and young adults.

"Someone saw this video of cat abuse and contacted our organization," said Kristin DeJournett, a cruelty caseworker for PETA based in Memphis, Tenn. The organization contacted animal control and the Marion County prosecutor's office.

This comes off after the girl fight. What will those eens think of next?

I originally planned that, but I considered adding ".com" to it.

Haven't had any real problems with it.

I have a few "friends" who post 10 Bulletins a day. Most of the belletins are "I'm Leaving MySpace" and proclaim if you don't repost you are not a true friend. I always felt if you do repost, you are a real loser.

I've found people I haven't been intouch with for 15 years. It's a good resource to find old friends, not so much to make new friends, and you get exposed to really good bands you would never have heard of otherwise.

I think the true problem with MYSPACE.com are the stupid EENS. There are many stories right now about them posting to much information of them on those sites. The fear are sex offenders hunting down these kids. Its a true fear if you have any children.
But also, we have the stupid EENS that are posting their crimes on these sites. Um.. I understand bragging rights but this is a little stupid.

It's an easy way to find old pals, and it's a little bit more fun than plain email.
As for kicking cats in plastic bags... I don't need the internet to enjoy that.

Hey maybe we can start a trend, and new word. God, that would make me so proud. 7 years down the line the dictionary adds EENS as a new slang.

Some people's constant bullitens bug me but the people I've met on there is well worth it :)
I also found my old best friend from high school!
Also, I have a lot of bands on there which is cool to be able to receive information about upcoming shows, plus its easier for them to send information to their fans all at once.

I understand the place can be a abused, and a hunting ground for pedophiles.

I only thought of that the other day funnily enough.

If a phedophile writes the name of his nearest primary/high school in the search function BAM piles and piles of profiles with photos of little kids.

Things I hate about Myspace

Everyone has stupid haircuts and most of them are the exact same haircut. It's really boring how every one looks the same.

People who take pictures of themselves in the mirror. They need to learn how to work thier camera. Those pictures are so annoying.

For some reason, there are people who try to collect as many firends as possible and get thier number up as high as possible. This is insane to me. Clicking the "approve" button sould not be what merrits a friend.

However I should say that is does function pretty well as a dating service. I used to post personal adds for fun that usually consisted of Futurama quotes or bizarre rants. I would get such a great return on those adds. Some really cool girls responded. Recently I met a girl on Myspace who went to the same high school as me. We started dating for a while after meeting eachother. It's been really cool. And since then, I have found out that many of my friends have had positive expiriences with dating on Myspace.

I just started my own MySpace page.

Yeah, the overwhelming HTML/background/music stuff is pretty annoying. I kinda feel guilty putting up a GI Joe video and a Rob Zombie song, but I'm pretty sure that's the extent of my multimedia expansion. I'm pretty plain as it is, so what you see is what'll be there for good. :p

Blaming Myspace for the stupid behavior of it's users doesn't make any more sense than blaming CBR for problem posters.

There's a slight difference: CBR posters can't post videos of their mayhem. They may talk and show images of the mayhem, but I never heard of CBR being in the press.

Here's a Rule that should be worthy of signatures or rememberence:

For Forums: Don't feed the Trolls! (i.e., Don't give them a chance to talk)
For MySpace: Let the Authorities Handle the Eens

This whole thing with the cat is a benefit of myspace. These girls may still have done this without filming or posting it, but now that they did they have to pay the consequences. I have no problem with law enforcement using poeple's own stupidity and self-aggrandizing tendencies against them.

I also like myspace cause it hosts my band's pages for free and people all over the world can tell us we don't suck :D

MySpace is forbidden to me. That's where my kids hang out.

I will say that if you are a college student and have pictures of your spring break activities on MySpace, you should be aware that (A) some colleges are expelling students based on the content of their pages and the activities they reveal, and (B) it's becoming the norm for employers to search such sites for information about potential employees. Caveat emptor.

Seems to me that somebody could make a killing by collecting archives of MySpace, Facebook, and other such sites, and then charging people a fee to have their teenage indiscretions deleted from the database in a few years.

It's all in the marketing. You promote the archive as a good thing. It's just that there's an administrative fee to delete records.

I'm 44 and have no clue what Myspace is . . .

Is it a place for personal web pages and blogs? and if so, what makes it so popular?

I understand the place can be a abused, and a hunting ground for pedophiles.

It's a place to leave contact information for colaboration, employment or shop talk. Starting out as an actor? Here's a space to store your headshot as well as action pics of yourself for casting agents. Got a band? Here's a space for you to post MP3s for record companies or even sell an album or two. MMA fighters used it as a quick way to negotiate spots in semi-pro fight cards.

What I think happened was some no brained fans of some folk who used the service, got the Idea that it was a place to post junk and the deluge started. So now a days, it looks like a really bad version of Love Connection that takes place in the local employment office.

IMO, Those who use the service like it was originally intended or at least as a form of quick communication should be left alone and all the rest get culled.

What really gets me is how older folk tend to write off this service as "young people stuff." It's not just for young folk. It's for everyone.
