Emily's Toybox is a band from Pennsylvania who were fond of flipping people off in the middle of songs and sets. They also liked to mangle lyrics of popular songs as well as sing their own raunchy tunes. Needless to say, they were most popular amongst the York College of PA crowd.

It's only bad if the turtle starts talking back. Then you might need to talk with someone. Probably while lying on a leather couch. And the someone will probably have a clipboard or something.

Actually, there have been more Buckies than Robins. With Bucky, you've got the original, Fred Davis, who replaced the original and fought alongside Spirit of 76 and the Patriot, Jack Monroe, Rick Jones, and Lemar Hoskins, AKA Battlestar. And if you want to count her, Rikki Barnes, although that kind of makes my head hurt.
Batman just has Dick, Jason, Tim, and Stephanie.
Although granted, Steve Rogers has only worked with the original Bucky, Rick Jones and (kinda sorta) Rikki.

Nice. I pretty much decided that the early seventies were the peak of mainstream comics. The Fourth World, Starlin's Warlock, Engelhart's Cap, Strange, and Avengers, the whole Steve Gerberverse (http://circumstantial.blogspot.com/2006/02/i-challenge-blogoverse.html), Tomb of Dracula, Wrightson on Swamp Thing... With a VERY few exceptions (Moonshadow, Stray Toasters) iit wasn't 'till Vertigo that anyone even tried for that level of conceptual coolness.
But there was a kind of smarmy too-cool-for-school-ness to 'even them. Engelhart et. al. did stuff that worked on a Grown Up level AND quality kid's entertainment, without that kind of ironic hipster-dom.

Lemar? BATTLESTAR? This was a showed-up-for-two-issues and no one ever mentioned them again type deal, right? If so, we gotta count all the time's that Jimmy Olsen's dressed up as Robin. And we're even. (And, of course, DKR Robin/Catgirl ties the Liefeld Robin.)
He got introduced in front of a press conference as Bucky. And before that, he was a BUCky, a Bold Urban Commando.
And the key difference here is that Gruenwald counted Lemar as Bucky IV in the handbook. Whereas DC never did, and Jimmy hasn't dressed as Robin since pre-Crisis, anyways.

Ooh. I'm probably not equipped to argue continuity with Gruenwald. So I'll call it even at five each.

Coheed and Cambria has released three studio albums, one live album, and various special-edition re-releases. Their albums are concept albums, all telling the same story in different parts. So far, there are a planned five albums for the Bag On Line Adventures, the current storyline running through the songs. To date, three studio albums have been released: The Second Stage Turbine Blade (2002), In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (2003), and Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness (2005). These albums make up the second, third, and fourth parts of the five-part saga of Coheed and Cambria, respectively. History
When a band called Toxic Parents, featuring Travis Stever and Claudio Sanchez, dissolved around the same time as Nate Kelley's project, Moe & The Boogie Cats (who disbanded after their lead singer left New York to join a UFO cult in Arizona), the members came together to form a new band in March 1995.
The band was Beautiful Loser, and it featured Travis Stever on lead vocals and guitar, Claudio Sanchez on guitar, Nate Kelley on drums and Jon Carleo on bass. The group was short-lived, breaking up by June of the same year they started the band, due to an argument over gas money. Stever left the band, and Kelley was initially kicked out, but came back when asked by Sanchez. Without Stever, the band became a trio, and Sanchez took control of the lead vocals and guitar.
Renaming themselves Shabütie (a name taken from African tribe chants for "naked prey" in the movie Naked Prey), the band spent nearly a year experimenting with a multitude of different sounds—punk rock, indie rock, acoustic rock, funk and heavy metal—and purportedly wrote as many as 100 songs, few of which they kept. When Carleo left the band in August 1996, Kelley recruited Michael Todd, with whom he had worked on an acoustic side project called Esme 9, to take his place. Todd, primarily a guitarist, picked up the bass specifically for Shabütie.
With this near-final formation of the band, they entered their most productive and mature period. According to Kelley, the band sometimes wrote up to seven new songs in one five or six hour sitting. Also during this period, the band put out its first public release, the Penelope EP (in 1999) and Stever rejoined the band on second guitar, making them a four-piece once again.
Around 1999, the band members had developed a habit of drinking too heavily during shows, and the quality of their performances declined. During one such show, Sanchez allegedly screamed the lyrics of the song "Life Without You", a Cassiopeia-esque ballad, prompting Kelley to pack up his drum set in front of a packed audience and leave the stage. Thus, on February 19, 2000, Shabütie's original lineup, apart from Sanchez, was gone.
Following Kelley's departure, Sanchez and the others chose Josh Eppard, then of the band 3, to take his place. They finished out the year and performed halfway through 2001 before changing their name to Coheed and Cambria and releasing the Delirium Trigger EP, and the history of Shabütie was finished.
The band now consists of four members: Claudio Sanchez (vocals/guitar), Travis Stever (guitar), Michael Todd (bass), and Josh Eppard (drums). When playing live, Dave Parker (keyboards/guitar), joins the lineup. If Josh Eppard is sick, Aaron Otoka fills in. The group primarily uses these standard instruments, but occasionally their songs call for a lapsteel or a mandolin.
[edit]
Influences and similarities
Coheed and Cambria's music is often compared to that of Rush, partly because of lead singer Sanchez's vocal range, Dream Theater, for their technical phrasing and intricate time changes, and Yes, partly because of the intracacy and "dueling" style of guitar work. Their technical precision, terse rhythmic phrases and the advanced compostional structures of songs evoke earlier similarly crafted rock. Story elements and melodic themes are cohesively wrought throughout their albums to date. Co&Ca are the most visible arbiters of a new sort of "prog-rock opera" style for the 2000s. Notably, though, the futuristic sci-fi storyline from which all their music is based harkens back to the epic sound and feel of 1970s progressive-rock.
[edit]
Interpretations
Coheed's albums tell a story, but its details can be difficult to decipher, leading to a morass of speculation by fans spurred on by cryptic lyrics and hints from the band. For example, some fans have suggested that Sanchez's higher vocals reflect the teller of the story (a young boy). Those fans point out that now that the storyteller has grown up in the new album, Sanchez's vocals have become slightly lower-key.[citation needed]
The meanings behind Coheed and Cambria's lyrics are explained in two comic books (The Second Stage Turbine Blade) and one graphic novel (Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV).
[edit]
Other projects
The Bag On Line Adventures — Claudio Sanchez is writing a graphic novel series to further illustrate this story. There are currently two Second Stage Turbine Blade comic books, illustrated by Wes Abbot, and a graphic novel entitled Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Volume 1: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness, illustrated by Christopher Shy. (It is undetermined whether or not these artists will continue to illustrate the rest of the story.)
The Prize Fighter Inferno — Side-project of Claudio Sanchez. An album entitled "My Brother's Blood Machine" is slated for a 2006 release.
Weird Science — Josh Eppard's hip-hop project. An album entitled "Friends and Nervous Breakdowns" has been released on Equal Vision Records.
Fire Deuce — Travis Stever's side-project, that has released one EP, "Children of the Deuce".
The English Panther — Travis Stever's solo side-project. No album is scheduled for release.

I'm gonna stick my nerdy little nose (oh, that's not my nose; oh well) into this, despite not knowing you got here.
Lemar was Battlestar for a good while, I think. There was their debut, some amount of time in which Lemar was "Bucky," then folks realized "Bucky" was something of a racial slur in some parts of the U.S. and changed his name to "Battlestar." THEN the guy who was his Captain America went off the deep end and Lemar tried to find him. During all of this time, Steve Rogers was wearing the black, white, and red uniform and called himself "the Captain." Steve's stint as "The Captain" lasted more than just a couple of issues and the guy who'd replaced him, John Walker ("Battlestar's Captain America), adopted Steve's black, red, and white costume, becoming USAgent (when Steve became Captain America, again). Since then, Walker's been a West Coast Avengers, changed the costume a bit, and shown up as recently as 2006, as I recall.
Not quite a two-day-nobody-mentioned-them-again type deal.

"Those tights... that brooding... those muscles. Oh how I want him. My will power controls the most powerful weapon in the universe but I'm unable to control... my heart."
Thanks to that and tricksterpup's posts....well, I'll never be able to read Batman again.
I also can't read Hal's comic either. He's just too violent for me. And I idolize Lobo! I mean, Hal turned on Hector Hammond's pain receptors by doing some brain surgery with his ring, just so he could torture the bastich!

Good news. After running through all the emotions I went through with my kid this week, I finally got to a pretty even keel yesterday (put his ass to work in the garden, big time). I got to thinking: You know, he changed those grades not to defraud the school, he changed those grades because he was afraid I'd get mad at him. Yesterday morning I called a friend who serves as a Principal at a local school, and a friend who's a guidance counselor and has been a vice-Principal at another school and told them what was going down. Basically their thoughts were: "TEN days? For forging a report card? A report card that has ZERO chance of changing the actual grade in the grade book at his school? DAMN. Ten days is the kind of thing we give for weapons and drugs. That ain't right."
So the ex called the Principal of his school up, and we got a hearing set for Monday. (LOOK. I might bitch about my ex, and post a good pissy rant about her at times, but the truth is: Beelzebitch is a helluva mother. No pun intended) 30 minutes later, the Vice Principal (the person who originally expelled and then decided on the 10-day) called her up and told her that he'd probably gone a bit overboard. So Ian gets a 4 day instead. Which is pretty lucky, because two very important assignments were due next Wednesday, and he might actually salvage this year.
And is it wrong that I have WIDELY mixed feelings about that outcome? On the one hand, he's only screwed up his chances for the really picky colleges, so he's still got a good chance that this didn't screw hi life up too much at all. On the other hand, will he learn anything from a slap on the wrist?
Times like this, I really wish I could get away with the "woodshed." I know that was a major deterent for me. enh.. times change.

Just schoolwork, chores and bed. In addition, I'd talk to the ex and have her do the same. Basically put him under house arrest. If his english grades go up, he gets privlages back one at a time.

Already done.
In fact, *HE* made a deal with *ME.* He's REALLY intensly worried that he might not get all his TKD requisites in for his 2nd DAN in July (which I had already told him to kiss good-bye). So he has a set of goals in place (very difficult with the missed days, in fact) which will allow him to get to test in July.
PLUS. He needs to ace all of the English from here out (his worst subject) or else he could be looking at Summer school. Summer School which is 3 weeks of 5 hour days right smack dab when his Mom has already set up their vacation to Hilton Head. Flunk English? Stay home with Dad.
I really would have loved to see the blood drain from his face when that realization sunk in.
