This is inspired by the Visage thread and hopefully we all can chime in.
Awhile back on TV a doctor was on and discussed hair and the problems some have. In her words these were the No/No's...
1. No Intense Blow Drying: It kills your folicles slowly . She said the heat buurns them up and keeps new hair from growing.
2. Hairspray makes your hair brittle over time. The hair becomes brittle as you use hair sprays . In her long explanation hair spray use can lead to bald spots down the road.
3. Over washing your hair ! This I heard from a woman on TV who advised Johnny Depp and others who grew thier hair out for roles. This stylist told Depp to wait 3 to 4 days between washing his hair at times. In her words the oils build up in the hair and its helps for hair growth.
This is just some of the funny and wild stuff I've heard regarding hair. What have you heard ?

I heard if it grows long enough, you can tell it what to do.

Keep the advice coming! I have a hairling that's a bit higher than a normal twenty year old's, so other than not washing my hair in scalingly hot showers and using conditioner, what else prevents me looking like Professor X?

I had a friend at uni who hadn't washed her hair for about four years. It was really straight and really long (small of the back long).
She used to brush it incessantly, and the only time she'd get it wet was when she washed her scalp, which was every couple of weeks.
You'd think her hair would smell something awful, but it didn't. It actually smelt lovely.

According to my grandparents, wearing a baseball cap will lead to baldness because hair needs a certain amount of sunshine.
Not sure about this, but most males in my family believe it.

I don't think it's the sunshine but rather a lack of oxygen getting to the scalp.
I probably spend more time on my hair than what is considered acceptable for a non-metrosexual geek. My hair approaches Pat Riley territory with the amount of product I use and as PhoenixRising could probably testify to, you could probably see your reflection in it. It's not greasy, but rather a hard shiny shell. This is because my hair is so damn thick, that if I don't plaster it down I'd get a thick rat's nest afro (not Winslow's bitchin whiteman-perm afro).
- Wash my hair everyday.
- I ALWAYS towel dry and never use a blower.
- Then I mousse my hair and style it.
- Then I spray my hair and finish it off.
Once a week, I use the Neutrogena anti-residue shampoo to give my head a deep cleaning and get all the crap out.

What!? How? Why? What is it supposed to do for your hair?

Mayo has eggs, and those are supposed to be good because of the protein.
Beer has always been considered effective.
I was actually talking about this gem last night:

I had an aunt who told me she used baby shampoo on a bad spot in her hair that was thinning slowly. After a few weeks it grew back in good and she swears by it.
