Bendis stated on Newsarama that the Ultimate Invasion mini that was rumored was just that a rumor.

Q: What is Ultimate Invasion?

BMB: There is no Ultimate Invasion. That is an Internet rumor. There is a project that I’m working on with Marc Silvestri that is untitled. Somehow it’s been connected to this Invasion project. That’s not what it is. It’s a little too early to talk about the Silvestri thing. But Silvestri went and blabbed, so I can say I’m working with Silvestri. But it’s a while away. It’s a slow burner.

The way the answer starts it sounds like there is no Ult. Invasion but then he says he doesn't know how his project got connected to Ult. Invasion, like there was an Ult. Invasion to be connected to.

No, he said that there is a project he's working on and that there's no "Ultimate Invasion". When he's saying it got connected, he's referring to the rumor. There is a project and it maybe be similar to (or even exactly the same as) what the rumored Ultimate Invasion is, but to me it clearly denounces that there is a story-arc planned out called Ultimate Invasion.

Drat. And now here I was hoping for an actual Ultimate story with Namor, instead of what was essentially a few 616 issues with new art and Millar's dialogue.

Damn...I was really looking forward to 4 issues of the Atlantis army on its way to New York followed by a final issue where Reed Richards stops the single small-scale skirmish that breaks out on a seashore.

Having a living Atlantis doesn't really sound very Ultimate.
