View Full Version : How did Supergirl die Pre-Crisis??

In "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow," the Legion brings Supergirl to visit Superman. Superman is sad because he knows that she is already dead and doesn't let Supergirl know her fate, even when she asks, "Do I grow up to be pretty?"

How did she die? I was always under the impression that the only time Supergirl died was in the Crisis.

That would be when the Pre-Crisis Supergirl died. WHTTMOT, happened between COIE and the Man of Steel reboot. It was still using the Pre-Crisis continuum, but after the Crisis. So basically, read COIE and then WHTTMOT and it will make some sense.

Mark Waid's compendium of parallel Earths (as included in the companion volume to ABSOLUTE CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS) indicated that WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE MAN OF TOMORROW took place on an Earth similar, but not quite identical to Pre-COIE Earth-One. Therefore, it's not certain that the Supergirl of this Earth died in the same manner that her Earth-One counterpart did.

Technically, the continuity of Pre-Crisis Superman ended in an issue of DC COMICS PRESENTS. Haven't read it myself, but apparently it was a rather unhappy ending.

"Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?," which was published afterwards in ACTION and SUPERMAN, may not have been the same Superman. Hence, the big deal about it only being an imaginary story...

... but aren't they all?

Yeah, you knew that was coming.

I read it. Bizarro World gets blown up. The Phantom Zone is destroyed and merged into a mystical gem that bonds with Mxyzptlk as the 5th dimension is also destroyed.

And Kryptonite rains from the sky, imbedding itself throughout earth's soil in such a way that Superman would always be depowered and somewhat in pain on earth.

Probably the creepiest thing is that when Bizarro World gets blown up, it propels Bizarro's dismembered head with such force that it hurtles through space and lands in Clark Kent's lap at the news studio where he anchored.

That in itself as proclaimed in the comic is an imaginary story , so who knows whether that was really the pre-crisis earth 1 ? Aren't they all imaginary story anyway ?
I think the alan moore last issues are so much better of a send off of the pre-crisis universe than the crappy dc presents. :)

The DC presents story and art is quite bad , not really worth that much.
