You may have seen the ad in Spider-Woman Origin #5. Well here is the link to the site. (http://www.digitalcomics.biz/) They are selling the Avengers DVD-ROM collection for $29.99! It collects every Avenger comic from #1 to December 2005 including the annuals!
I've got the Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Marvel Library. They are unbelievably kick ass, I can't explain. Just get one and you'll know. I highly reccomend this!

Nope. And when someone from DC was asked about the possibility, they said it wasn't possible to release their books in that format due to various rights issues.

Finally.
I have the Spider-man one and I didnīt want to put out money for the X-men or the FF ones, because Iīm not all the intrested in them. Now I can at last get one more of these brilliant gifts.

I have XMen, FF, and Spidey. They look great and are easy to read. You can enlarge them as much as you want. I've read #1-212 of Spidey, so I've read alot with these. They are well worth it! It's like you pay 7 cents an issue, literally! It's waay cheaper the "Essentials" and in color! I've used it on 3 different size monitors and it works fine on them all.

You should get a comission--you just made a sale. Wondered about the color in a couple my essentials and whether it would enhance it, especially with the early ones where there were few if any backgrounds.

I think eventually they'll get things worked out to do this. It will take a lot of effort though because Superman #1-500 is a hell of a long way back. How would they do Action Comics ? 1-500 as well ? Then release a volume #2 ?
The 2 companies love to compete so never say never. ;)

While I'm excited about the DVD itself -- the cover pisses me off. It prominently features the new Avengers -- with the faces of the classic team members crammed into a big A! WTF?!!!
I'll have to create a more appropriate cover to replace it.

I bought this today and it's great. Sure, pdf is a pain but I can live with it. Only thing that really annoys me is the sticker they use to seal the pack...tried removing it carefully and it still tore away the paper underneath. Some creative fan/s should put together alternate DVD covers to replace these so we can ditch the clumsy packaging and save even more space on our shelves. Any takers?

While I love the DVD, not including Giant-Size Avengers was a disappointment for me as well. I even sent an e-mail to the makers of the DVD (support@gitcorp.com):
"I just received my copy of 40 Years of Avengers DVD-ROM today and it's terrific!! However, while I know you included all of the Annuals, may I ask why you didn't include any of the Giant-Size Avengers issues from the 1970's since some fairly significant events happened in those issues? Particularly the wedding of the Vision and Scarlet Witch in Giant-Size Avengers #4? I guess I expected to see these issues on the disc seeing as how you included Giant-Size X-Men #1 on the 40 Years of X-Men DVD-ROM."
This was their reply:
"When we research on what issue go onto a disc, we consult with Marvel's editors of each character and that is how we decide what to publish on a DVD collection. The editor informed us that the giant-size issues were not annuals and did not belong in the collection. Sorry..........."

It's great. Thought I'd fly through the issues but it's really a super buy read two to three issues a night and still entertained even with the weaker efforts. The progression of things is very interesting. Only in the mid 1970s so far. The crossovers (with Defenders and Captain Marvel and other issues lacking) and lack of the Giant-sized avengers can be annoying. After I finish this I'll probably start getting some of the others and become more a continuity geek. Only took a few days via mail.

I recieved my dvd today. I was browsing it, and when I tried to access a comic form the 1990's, it froze!
It only happens with comics from the 1990's, so I checked the 1990's folder on the dvd using windows explorer, and it took a few seconds to open that folders just to show it was empty! My guess is that the dvd is corrupted in that part :(
I checked in another dvd drive, and it was the same. I have the other ff and x-men dvd-roms and they work fine.
Can you guys check if you have the same problem, or is my dvd have an isolated problem?

The whole 1990's folder is messed it up, meaning I can't access any comic from 1990 to 1999. Am I the only one with this problem?
I've never read an avenger comic from the 1990's, so I guess they sucked like the Spiderman titles and the whole clone fiasco. I'm a Stan Lee/Ditko/Kirby fan so I know I'm not missing anything essential :) but it's annoying not having the complete Avengers run in my dvd.

I bought mine at the local comic store and it only contained the 1960s. No Adobe reader was on the disc either, just the folder for the 1960s. I tried it on three different dvd drives and had a tech look at it. He said it was a faulty disc. So, I returned it to the store and received a replacement, and it did the same thing. It was brutal and a major bummer.
I emailed their customer service and they said that it sounds like a bad batch was released, and asked me to tell the store to check all the copies they had. They were really helpful and are sending me a replacement.

Hi,
I'm new here I am having the same problem with rhe 40 years of avengers dvd-rom I can only see the the 1960's folder. I have tried both my DVD-ROM drive & my brand new HP DL DVD burner. I contacted both the seller & Gitcorp.com & they sent me replacements that have the SAME PROBLEM! I have been rearching my system & have also tried the disk on 3 other computer & am able to read the disks with no problem. I though I might have either a virus or trojan & found nothing. I them checked to see if I had the SONY BMG ROOTKIT problem that hides content from disk & found nothing. I then tried BOOTING THE SYSTEM IN SAFE MODE & WAS ABLE TO READ THE DISK WITH NO PROBLEM!! I have been trying to see what software is obviously causing this problem. by turning off files & programs that get loaded at startup by using msconfig & have found out that it none of by taking the expident of TURNING EVERYTHING OFF IN MSCONFIG which then invokes a diagnostic startup. IW AS NOT ABLE SEE MORE THEN THE 1960'S FOLDER!! I am now trying find out whst the difference between a diagnostic load & safe mode is so I can find out what is causing this problem!!

I just received my replacement copy in the mail and I tried it on a work computer and it worked fine but I got home and could only view the 1960s folder, again :( I am running Roxio as well, and I tried to view in safe mode, but could still only view the 1960s.
I have a message in to Gitcorp to see if they have any solutions, but my next step is to save on the hard drive at work, split folders and burn them to separate dvds (and hope that works).
I'll let you know what I hear back from Gitcorp.

Ha ha DC!!
Are so wrapped up in your silly Marvel-itis that you can't appreciate all the good comics that DC has produced? You are only hurting yourself by limiting yourself to one publisher. DC hasn't done anything but good for the comic industry as a whole, offering great, classic comics and characters throughout the years, and attracting more people into the industry, both customers and producers. Mocking them is just stupid.

What's the Marvel Library one?
A little FYI on the Spider-Man one, it is being re-released in June on DVD-ROM. Currently, it is scarcely available on an 11 CD-ROM collection. But if you wait for the DVD-ROM Spidey, it should be on one disc and unlike the CD-ROMs, include annuals and even more recent issues!
The marvel Library one contains the first 10 issues of 10 popular Marvel comics. It's great and cheap!
well i just ordered all 4. This will so bring back memories.
I would like 2 see them do 2 spiderman sets a combo web of spiderman and Peter Parker lol the Spectacular spiderman and maybe slap spideys old Marvel team up on it also a separate for Amazing Spiderman

Hmm, I don't know about Iron Man. But Captain America, Hulk, and Daredevil are scheduled to come out this year. Amazing Spider-Man is suppossed to come out this month on DVD-ROM. Also, Ultimate X-Men is already out on CD-ROM. That's right, every Ultimate X-Men up til now is collected and out. I think it's $20 or $30. Quite a deal.
I'm sure Iron Man will follow. Also, anyone check out the comics on DVD? This is when 6 or 8 comics are collected and read through voice actors while a camera scans the comic book panels.
They have Wolverine Origin #1-6, Daredevil #1-8, hulk #1-6, and several volumes of Ultimate X-Men. I have the first 3 I mention and so far seen the first 2. They are kick ass! I recommend getting these, maybe just one to try it out first. It's just a little different feeling at first, but it's the actual comics being read. It feels like watching TV or a movie, but a kick ass one!

well i just ordered all 4. This will so bring back memories.
I would like 2 see them do 2 spiderman sets a combo web of spiderman and Peter Parker lol the Spectacular spiderman and maybe slap spideys old Marvel team up on it also a separate for Amazing Spiderman
Yes, I say they make all Spider-Man comics available for collection on DVD-ROM! It's the only way fans like me can afford them! Or even obtain them 'cause some are very old. And I must read them all!

Since the Spider-Man issues (Previously available on CD) are being converted to DVD-rom for a July release, will the DVD set feature more issues or will it just be a conversion of the previous set?
It'd be nice if they could also make collections of Spectacular, Web of etc...any plans for that?
Does the company have a website?

They are adding the annuals, and it seems likely that they will add all the comics up to date of 2006. So if you get it, you will likely have EVERY Amazing issue ever!
Also, I second that they make Web of, Spectacular, Sensational, Peter Parker, Spider-Man, and others available on DVD-ROM! Make them all and we the avid fans will buy them! Plus it brings in new fans, like...me for example! And it creates an avid fandom when you can read all past issues!

I highly recomend these cdroms to anyone it's worth it and is much cheaper than getting all the trades and back issues that you missed. And it makes me said to say it cause I do love to get TPB's but I can't say enough good things about these roms

This is one of my biggest problems with Marvel right now... the editors are completely worthless.
What does this mean in terms of the value of the overall DVD set? It's still a very good buy. I paid $50 for it, and I've enjoyed reading the 60's issues so far. Between actual Avengers and Marvel Triple Action reprints, I used to own most of the first 20 years worth of Avengers comics. I sold most of my silver age issues in '91, so it's been great to finally re-read these issues after all these years.
However, I know that I'm going to be very disappointed by the Englehart era, in part due to this editiorial screw-up. While some of the Giant-Size issues were just reprints (as were Annuals #3-5, which did get into this DVD set), it just so happens that Giant-Size Avengers #2-4 were extremely important issues. In just those 3 issues, there were several great fight scenes, a death, and two weddings. Each of those Giant-Size issues was also a milestone in the overall Celestial Madonna arc.
It's also disappointing that the crossover issues were omitted, although I can appreciate the logic of this decision. I can read FF #150 in the FF set, but it may be a long wait before we see Defenders #9-11 or Marvel Two-in-One Annual #2 in this format.

I guess that's why I might go specifically with the Essentials route, but like others said in another thread I made, why not get both? So I still think I'll pick this up eventually.
I'd love it if you could update online and get the Giant-Size issues and cross-overs for a small amount of money.

I had a similar problem with my Avengers dvd. I copy all the files to my hard drive (it's faster) and I noticed the 90's didn't copy. I went back and dragged just that folder and it worked. However on my laptop, the 80's and 90's wouldn't copy. I eventually moved the files from my desktop to an external hard drive and then to my laptop. It's all in now but it was a weird experience. I ahve all the dvds and this was the first that gave me a problem.
btw, you can get all of Ultimate FF in the tin edition of the Fantastic Four movie dvd. Yes, you have to buy the movie but you get the cd rom and a tin that can hold all the dvd roms (no more envelopes!)

The editors have done a very good job with the Essentials that I've seen. The Defenders one was particularly impressive. Not only did they include the relevant crossover issues of the Avengers during the Avengers-Defenders War, they also did an excellent job of including the various team-up and crossover issues involving the Defenders before they were even known as the Defenders. It's like these Essentials volumes are being put together by people who know and love these comics.

I may have to follow your lead on this. I was reading everything slowly in order, but the problems mentioned in this thread made me decide to peek ahead. Sure enough, I had some minor difficulties opening several of the years in the 80's as well as the 2000 folder. And I can't open any of the 90's folders. I sent an email to GitCorp asking for guidance, but I will also try to figure out my own solution.

I forgot to mention, I received my replacement DVD from GitCorp last week, and the new one is working just fine.
I've been re-reading the whole series, issue by issue, and I'm currently on #232. But I have to admit that I have been skimming through the less enjoyable issues, including most of the Lee/Kirby run, at least half of the Kooky Quartet issues, and at least half the issues published after Shooter became Editor-in-Chief. It's odd that Shooter wrote the Avengers so well in the 70's, then so poorly in the 80's after he became EiC. I can see now why Stern has so many fans, his writing was definitely an improvement over much of the two years preceding his run. If only his Captain Marvel hadn't been such a Mary Sue...

Depends on the size of your monitor, I guess. My monitor is just big enough to display the two pages side-by-side, although for some odd reason, these Acrobat files are defaulting to 101% instead of 100%, so I have to tweak the size down a notch everytime I start reading a given issue/file. Problem is, my monitor isn't quite as close to my face I tend to hold a comic book, so I end up zooming to 125% for easier reading, which then requires me to move around with the mouse like you're doing. It is annoying. Of course, I could probably stand to get the prescription on my lenses updated, it's been four years since I last got eyes checked.

Like several other posters, I've been having problems with my 40 Years of The Avengers DVD-ROM - only the 1960s folder is readable. Nothing else shows up at all, so I don't think I can transfer files to my desktop or anything.
Gitcorp sent me one replacement disc - it had the same problems - I advised them immediately and I haven't heard from them since.
I just reported the issue to Amazon, and am trying to either get a refund or a good disc ...

hi,
as I have posted earlier the problem with the '40 years of avengers' disk that only allows you to see the 1960's folder is a software compatability problem between Gitcorp (marvels manufactorer) and Roxio softwares "ROXIO EASY MEDIA CREATER (DVD\CD)" version 8 (I am running v8 the problem may occur with earlier versions as well) I have contacted both companies to address this problem but neither will admit that there is a problem!! The only ways to view to disk on your system is to either 1. reboot the system in 'SAFE MODE' this will then allow the disk to either be read or let the autorun work. or 2. Remove Roxio v8 from your system. As I also have Nero express 6 I have done # 2 but before doing this I tried # 1 & that does work also. I also tried a diagnostic boot from MSCONFIG this does not work. According to a tech services line I called they stated that in anything other than a 'SAFE MODE' boot Roxio loads its own 'Packet Writing' module ahead of the default MS version of the module & this is the cause of the problem. But I can't get either company to admit to this!! Hope this helps

Hey Mike,
My buddy uninstalled Roxio on his computer and it still had the same problem, and wouldn't read anything other than the 1960 folder. I tried mine in safe mode and it wouldn't open anything other than the 1960' either. I brought it to work and my boss has just a dvd reader drive and it worked fine. Someone on another site said to make sure the drivers are all up to date. I haven't bothered to try that yet.
I sure hope this doesn't happen with any future ones that Gitcorp makes. My Fantastic Four one works with no problems at all.

hi,
I read your post. I checked my system has all XP updates, drivers & SP2 up to date. Also make sure your friend rebooted his system AFTER the uninstall & BEFORE trying to read the disk again as the 'packet writing' module will still be loaded until the next boot & Roxio 8 does not require a reboot on uninstall!
I have also tried my disks (orig. & 2 replacments) on a total of 5 systems 1 is an XP Media system 1 is an old P2 running XP pro the 3rd is an exact clone of my system except I never loaded Roxio on it as Hardware wise it's same as mine except it has no DVD\CD burner. & last I tried it on system at work which runs 2k but has a dvd-rom drive (but I can't watch movies on it) & the disks work fine on all of them! & worked fine on my system after I uninstalled roxio 8 & rebooted! Also on 'SAFE MODE' make sure you do an actual 'SAFE MODE' & not go into MSCONFIG & do a diagnostic boot THERE IS A DIFFERENCE in these 2 kinds of boots (I wish some one could tell me the what difference is!!) as I found out from trying to diagnose this problem. I wish I could get Roxio together with Gitcorp to at least admit there is a problem!! & get it fixed! Hope this helps.
P.S. I have all of the available Retail disks that are out there they are:
1. 11 cd-rom of Spectacular Spider-Man
2. 44 Years of Fantasic Four (DL DVD)
3. 40 Years of Uncanny X-Men (DL DVD)
4. 40 Years of Avengers (DL DVD)
5. Ultimate X-Men (CD-Rom)
all disks except for the Avengers disk have worked fine!
there is supposed to an Ultimate Fantasic Four (CD-Rom) disk that came with the TIN Case version of the FF movie don't any thing about that one.

One way is to take a print screen of the pages, create a jpg image from that print screen, then open the jpg with a image manager program and that program should have an option to create a wallpaper.

Once you create a print screen by pressing "Print Scrn", paste that in a image manipulation program. There are many of such programs and the most basic one is MS Paint, but in my case I use MS Image Composer. Once you've created the jpg, open it with a image viewer program and that program should have an option to create a wallpaper. For image viewing I use ACDsee, but there should be many other programs that will let you set the image that you are viewing as your wallpaper.

Well I FINALLY bought this and was pleased overall. The only thing that bothered me was there were no West Coast issues, or Avengers minis (ie. Avengers Forever). Just the main series. Oh well.
Not sure if this has been asked before, (too many posts in this thread to rummage through), but can you print these comics? In proper order, that is? Of course you would have to reinsert paper to print on the other side, unless you have printer capable of double-sided printing. What type of paper would be recommended?

I don't know if you can or not, but I have to imagine that in many cases it'd cost you more in quality printer paper, toner, time, etc. than it would to just buy the back-issue.

It happened to me with the Spider-man disc. It is either your drive or some software incompatibility in your system. My solution was to take it to a computer that can see it and burn a backup DVD. With the backup you will be able to read the comics while keeping your original disc safe.

That's roughly what I've done - burnt the first 60 issues onto a CDRW (didn't have any writable DVDs to hand). Less convenient, but to be fair, it's not like I'm ever going to need to have all 400 odd at the same time.
I'll be interested to see if the Spider-man disc I've got coming works too.

I was thinking of buying a couple of these DVD-Rom discs from the comic store. What type of software is required to read it in your computer. I see some people are having problems reading these digital comics for some reason.
Also, what's the difference between DVD-Rom and CD-Rom as they have both in the store when I called asking them.
Also when you print out the comic does the print out almost compare the same quality in terms of lines with the actual comic ?

DVDs hold more, so it's only one DVD (which I have) or as I would imagine multiple CDs. If you have a DVD drive I suggest gettign the DVD version.
