Astonishing X-men and the Gambit solo?

I've heard praise about Astonishing X, but also how stories can 'spiral outta control' and've virtually heard nothing about the Gambit title...

Can any of you X-mites :D help a brother out with some non-glossed info on these titles I may, or may not add to my list?

Thanks guys. :)

Don't read Gambit so can't help there but as for astonishing...

I love it. Good close knit team (Cyclops, Emma Frost, Shadowcat, Wolverine Beast and another character than gets revealed later on). Great dialogue. good stories, though sometimes a few plotholes (like would so and so really have done that all these years, no biggie for me).
plus the stories, whilst sometimes using backstory and older characters, are pretty clear for a newbie.
Basically if you have liked any of joss Whedon's former work (Buffy, Angel, Firefly etc) you will prob like this.

IMO, Astonishing is getting better. The Gambit solo I'd be weary of. That's probably just because I don't like Gambit..

Gambit got cancelled. That's probably why you haven't heard anything about it for a while.

Astonishing is decent, in my opinion. Some people love it, some hate it. Any book that has that sort of effect on people is worth reading an issue of.

Astonishing is pretty good. The first arc (issues 1-6) is really good, and the current arc is really catching my interest (though some revelations and clues are in the second arc, its not one I really enjoyed).

I didn't read Gambit, but I heard it was good most notably the arc with the sex tape.

I was gonna pick up a copy of both when I was out today, but passed... is Astonishing 'decompressed', say like New Avengers, though I doubt it 'cause of different writers... ?

Each story takes 6 issues to tell. Some New Avengers stories take 3 or 2 issues to tell.

So, make your decisions from there.

I don't mind necessarily how long a story may take to be told, I just wanna feel like I just read an entertaining comic book. NA hardly does.

But, thanks anyway guys. :)

I feel like every issue of the first and current arc were worth it. I think you'll be entertained. :)

Eh, i've read better. The current arc isn't that bad though.

Astonishing X-men is AWESOME :)

Awesome is a strong word. And not particularly accurate.

'Decent' would sum it up alltogether (considering the 1st arc was 'good' and the 2nd was 'meh').

Astonishing believes its own hype when its really as disappointing as France, while Gambit is a solo series about Gambit. And that speaks for itself.

Thanks guys. :)Gambit was OK, but keep away from Astonishing X-Men.

Pick up the previous Gambit series (by Fabian Nicieza) instead. :)

The first Astonishing X-Men arc (issues 1-6, 'Gifted') was brilliant! I love that storyarc... But the second arc (issues 7-12, 'Dangerous') was a little disappointing really. But issue 13 was pretty cool.

All in all i'd say it was decent with moments of brilliance.

As for the recent Gambit series, whilst it was cancelled, i quite enjoyed it. Gambit was written far better in said series than he has been in any of the core titles in the past few years.

25 issues, two annuals.
it is (in my opinion) the best representation of gambit and one of the better marvel solo books overall.
