I got in an argument with a friend over whether or not seeing dead people is a mutation....sorry we're dorks. What do you guys/gals think?

Also what would the uses of this power be?

If having green hair could be considered a mutation, seeing spirits (I'm assuming that's what you mean) could be considered one too.

Yea, I meant spirits, lol. Not digging up graves and being like "woah, a dead corpse!"

Well if ghosts or spirits do exist, it is feasable that they exist on a slightly different phase to us. So if a person could see them, I'd say that their eyesight (or possibly brain interpretation) is different than the norm, hence mutated. So yeah, I guess.
Could be used to solve crime.
Cop (who can see ghosts): Who Killed you?
Hawkeye: Scarlett Witch, but really I blame Bendis.
Cop shoots Bendis.
Hawkeye: You sure you can see dead people. I think I'm alive again now.

It could go either way. Send a Sentinal after them and see what happens or put them in the same room as Leech.

Are there any X-Men that can see spirits? Can't think of any off the top of my head.

Kim Alleyne though she could...she was Prodigys sister

Dani Moonstar porbably still has her residual death sense even after her depowering.

Jefferey Garret WAS dead until he was depowered and um...died.

Wicked could manifest and control the ghosts of Genosha. :)

Or b) you just received the recessive genes from your parents.

I put my money on option B.

Dead Girl was down with the spirits. And she was a mutant, kind of sort of in a weird way.

Well, it depends if you're refering to real life or comics. If its real life, then through exposure to radiation, if it didn't kill you then it could cause your kid to come out messed up, but thats not going to give them super powers, just deformities.

In the comics radiation causes a fundamental change in the exposed persons DNA sequences which later causes the "X" gene to activate in said child.

Therefore a mutation is not a recessive trait in either real life nor comics, it is an effect of an outside force upon fundamental DNA.

I saw this frog on the news a few months ago with two heads (seriously). That would make it a mutant, right? Also, if someone is born with, say, six fingers on one hand, would that make them a mutant? Also, would having six fingers be considered a deformity?

Yes to all three, keeping mind that those words aren't necessarily pejoratives.

Yeah, animals with multiple heads have popped up here and there due to exposure to radiation (I've seen snakes, turtles and goats the most), and yep, they count as mutants.

I dunno if the six finger thing would count because I believe I've heard that some genes do have recessive traits for extra digits just like 3rd and fourth nipples (which is actually EXTREMELY common). So I'm not really sure if a six digit would count as a mutation, though it would probably be considered a deformity or something of the like by scientific standards.
