I should be there -- it's almost literally right down the street from me. =)
Hawthorne High School Comic Convention Press Release
The Hawthorne High School Comic Convention:
The best little comic convention in the country just keeps getting better!
This May 13, 2006 America’s greatest small comic convention the Hawthorne High School Comic Con returns for it’s 3rd year. If you count the 13 years of the Ramapo High Comic Con (where Allan Rosenberg the faculty advisor for both conventions first help create the convention) we are up to year 16.
What makes the Hawthorne Con so great?
How about a great comic creator guest list: This year’s guest list includes modern masters Mark Texiera; Tom Raney; Rick Leonardi, Denny O’Neil and Bob Wiacek, painters Dave DeVries and Mark Sparacio. Silver Age greats Joe Giella and Arnold Drake, Golden Age legend (and co creator of the comic strip Dondi) Irwin Hasen; all ages friendly creators Tania Del Rio and Scott Roberts, editors Jim Salicrup; Danny Fingeroth, Jon Cooke and John Workman and Hawthorne High Cartooning Club alumni Melissa Goldberg and Alexio Gessa now back as independent creators. Shi creator Billy Tucci is tentatively scheduled to appear.
How about the Hawthorne Convention’s incredible professional art lessons: Each year there are lessons taught by comic pros teach at such schools as Joe Kubert School of Cartooning, the School of Visual Arts and the Fashion Institute of Technology. The lessons have included penciling; layout; inking; writing; coloring and letterings and will run the entire day in one of our art rooms.
How about the Hawthorne Convention’s auction featuring original artwork; signed books and other comic collectables!
How about the friendliest most comfortable convention around: You will have access to comic creators unheard of at other shows with short lines and very friendly comic creators. If a creator is at the Hawthorne Convention you can be sure they are the friendliest most interesting creators in the biz.
How about why we hold the convention each year: We raise extra funds for the High School’s Art Department so we can turn out talented artists and more importantly the future patrons of the arts.
Now that you are excited you ask when is this unbelievable event happening. Well we’re glad you asked!
It’s Sat May 13th 10am – 4pm at Hawthorne High School, 160 Parmelee Ave, Hawthorne, NJ 07506. The admission is still $3. Just go to Mapquest and get the directions or look up the NJ Transit schedule and catch the train to Hawthorne from Penn Station, just a short 30 minute trip from midtown NYC.
Be there for a very special day at the best little (but BIG AT HEART) comic convention in the country, the Hawthorne High Comic Book Convention.
For more info or to book dealer’s tables contact Allan Rosenberg: alllal@aol.com.
Website info will be up on the Big Apple Convention’s website: bigapplecon.com. The Hawthorne Convention will have it’s own page and will have up to date creator and art lesson information.
